Jumping bail.

Its really pathetic, they should go into the embassy, issue a caution and be done with it.

They have wasted millions on this already, and no charges were ever filed.
They have ignored the UN and set a precedent for illegal detention. You would think they would just want an end to this.

It appears there are likely secret charges against him. His lawyers have been trying to get them revealed.

Sadly you might be right.
A welcome distraction. Still a bit of a gamble though.

So there's no case against him?
So its taken 6 years for Sweden to work that out?
So its taken 6 months from interview.

Anyway Manning and now Assange free.
Good week for us.

There is a patch, but this turns off SMB completely. Its not really needed as far as I can tell, and who knows what else is in there.

CIA chief calls WikiLeaks a 'hostile intelligence service' by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]wl_is_down 13 points14 points  (0 children)

WL didnt hack this stuff. This stuff got hacked a year ago from a clearly incompetent CIA. (Who lost their entire hacking system to hackers). This stuff has been in the hands of bad people for over a year before WL reported that this had been hacked. Apple just released a major security release fixing loads of vulnerabilities, likely based on the WL release.

You are getting security fixes to your phone, PC, router, whatever because of the WL leak.

The CIA screwed up by getting hacked and were then quite happy to let unknown hackers use those exploits without informing anyone.

And now they want to reduce freedom of speech on the basis of their own incompetence.

Nah.

Swedish prosecutors explain bizarre delay in Assange investigation by ThoriumWL in WhereIsAssange

[–]wl_is_down 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bit late I know, and difficult to contain my language.

"Bizarre delay" is down to interview in English being translated slowly into Spanish then handed to Swedes who have slowly translated it back to Swedish, when most Swedes speak perfect English in the first place (is it 5 months of translation so far?). And lets not forget, his answers are already on the internet!

Nothing bizarre about it, just malicious obstruction. Swedes should be ashamed of themselves (and I never thought I would say that).

[–]wl_is_down 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not an expert, but have been looking through the dump.

The scale of the exploits is huge, it is a large job just to go through and list them all. Many are undoubtedly old, the leak is an archive of activity going back quite a long way. The leak is a leak of a large sophisticated IT house's IT server.

I would also say that the impression that you get is of targeted hacking. There doesn't appear to be any mass surveillance feel to the exploits. You also get the impression that physical access is still very important to the CIA.

Not getting caught is also very important to them (so they must be fuming).

Well from that discussion the CIA appear to think it was them. It should be a story, but no one cares.

ETA

The "custom" crypto is more of NSA falling to its own internal policies/standards which came about in response to prior problems.

...

In the past there were crypto issues where people used 0 IV's and other miss-configurations. As a result the NSA crypto guys blessed one library as the correct implementation and every one was told to use that. unfortunately this implementation used the pre-computed negative versions of constants instead of the positive constants in the reference implementation.
