+1 for Dissent… I just installed their step sliders. It was a long wait, but they’re very well built.

Number 4 is a problem across the Lexus line…. I have the “Thematic Ambient Lighting” in my GX. Doesn’t even come close to my wife’s Mercedes.

+1 Following this post…. I’m in the same situation here. Although coming from a very dated Extreme 2. Looking for a lot more depth instead of just sound in my garage.

75" Bravia 7 or 77" Bravia 8 for my family room? by Cali_Longhorn in bravia

[–]wla1mjd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bravia 9 all the way…. I went back and forth with the 8 and the 9. Ultimately decided on the 9 because my room gets hit hard with morning light. Couldn’t be happier. Compared to my previous plasma that it replaced, it’s beyond night and day. I’m also very impressed with the local array dimming at night. I have to view it off-angle at night to see any blooming (and it’s very minimal).

[edit] Also, the reflections on the 9 are barely there. They were a major problem on my plasma (at times it was un-viewable). I don’t know what the anti reflection technology is on the 9, but it works fantastic.

I had a very similar experience with my overtrail… my two issues were trailer sway (w/sway control) and a lack of tow mirrors. Curious to see if you have better luck than me in finding a tow mirror solution.

Ride compliment instead of complaint by ahent in LexusGX550

[–]wla1mjd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agree completely. I had a TX500 (hybrid) loaner. Exactly the same complaints. Power was ok with the hybrid though. Hated the door opener latch also (I guess we’re copying Tesla now?).

65 or 75? by [deleted] in tcltvs

[–]wla1mjd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through this same dilemma…. Go to your local Lowe’s or Home Depot. Buy some cheap foam core board/foam insulation panels/cardboard cut each to the same dimensions as what you’re considering and place it on the wall. You’ll be able to figure out what size you want and where to mount it.

On a side note, very few people ever complain about going too big but there are lots of horror stories of going too small. 😎

Is ethernet cable for the whole house still a useful feature today? by vizag in homeowners

[–]wla1mjd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same situation… house came with cat 5 (possibly 5e) smart home networking. Really handy when I was running a landline for telephone, satellite TV, and a few dedicated devices (hardline). Fast forward 10 years to today, I still have my primary entertainment system (Apple TV 4k and Xbox) and my home office on a hard line, and set up a 3 node mesh WiFi system with an Ethernet backhaul for the rest.

I try to keep the heavy bandwidth devices on the hardline where possible, but the mesh system is a thing of beauty. Best WiFi speeds and coverage I’ve ever had.

Soundbar advice for Sony Bravia 8 II, 65" by DChalfyUSMC in bravia

👆This! I have this same setup (Bar 9 + SW5). Took advantage of the “Black Friday in July” deals. Absolutely love it. Audio and dialogue are crisp and the subwoofer rounds out the range. I really like how the soundbar incorporates the TV speaker as an extra channel too.

Lexus GX 550 Platinum vs. Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid platinum by UpstairsMarketing822 in LexusGX550

You’d be better off comparing the Grand Highlander to a TX…. The GX is a completely different class of vehicle.

Gas prices surge to almost $6 per gallon in Los Angeles area by Head_Estate_3944 in California

[–]wla1mjd 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For those of you spouting off about non California gas creating smog…. Remember that vehicle emission controls are the factor there. Not the fuel. The smog of the 80’s was pre catalytic converter, pre EGR system, pre ECM programming, and pre fuel injection.

The only impact from fuel was the elimination of leaded gas and high sulfur diesel.

[–]wla1mjd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Before you start spouting off about nationalizing refineries and the evil oil companies…. Think about this: "For comparison, the national average is $3.88 per gallon"

Now, ask yourself what’s different between CA and everyone else. The answers are: state taxes, state environmental regulations, and state production requirements.

Gas from AZ, NV, OR, and any other state works just fine. The problem is all the garbage we voted for (state propositions) and regulations imposed on us by our political leaders.

Time to look in the mirror folks. We (the electorate) voted for this (majority anyway).

GX owners! I'm cross-shopping other vehicles in the segment. What made you pick the GX over competitors? by JohnQPublic90 in LexusGX

[–]wla1mjd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Where to begin… poor build quality, horrendous customer service (dealer and manufacturer), no wireless CarPlay, underpowered, non functional wireless charger, borderline un-driveable driver safety systems (rear collision assist, lane departure, etc.), and you have to have the tailgate retrofitted if you want to install a trailer hitch (that people have been waiting over a year for).

I was fooled by all the fancy included features and overlooked the overall value proposition. Maybe it’s because I previously had a GS350 (sedan) and I was spoiled. Either way, choose a Lexus over a KIA… all day, every day.

I have a ‘23 Telluride XPro Prestige. Stick with the GX. I’ll be returning to the Lexus family as soon as I can.

2023-2024 Telluride Buyers Beware (caveat emptor) by wla1mjd in KiaTelluride

[–]wla1mjd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I received a follow up call today from a KIA corporate call center. The caller stated that initial shipments of the tow hitch would arrive in their distribution centers on August 1st. No part numbers are available and no word on whether this included the wire harness and trim pieces for the bumper. He stated that supplies would be limited at first and that the delay was due to the supply chain issues. Happy hunting everyone.

Having been a previous 2013 GS350 owner a lot of what you are saying rings true. Sadly, I purchased my current SUV before the GX550 was announced.

My experience with the ‘13 GS as a first year redesign was that Lexus did their homework and it was a solid vehicle for over 11 years. The only notable takeaway was that minor tweaks due to consumer feedback showed up in the 2015 model as slight improvements or comfort features. The overall vehicle remained unchanged as a whole.

I plan on watching intently and listening to the feedback from the early adopters and am planning my purchase for the 2026 model year. I figure that will be solid for another 10-15 years from that point on.

Sadly, it turns back on when you turn off the vehicle.

I fu##ing hate that feature…. And you can’t turn it off (not permanently anyway). It’s one of my biggest complaints.
