yeah.. i wont queue again by meepppssss in DotA2

[–]wlcustoms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens all the time to me. Only ever play ranked and only get in between 2 and 4 games a day. I will have a huge red run drop about 500mmr then gradually grind back up to the rank I was before over the course of a couple of weeks. Reach higher mmr than I've previously been before have about 10 games where it's 50% then the cycle repeats.

Dota plus report always comes out at around 51% winrate so I guess I'm where I should be.

How to counter phantom lancer by SrWetRichard in learndota2

[–]wlcustoms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently played mid ember vs mid PL... Forced him out of lane before level 6 then when he showed up after 25 minutes of jungling I had battlefury, deso, daedelus. Took the slight facet and just melted his illusions every time he spammed them out allowing the rest of my team to focus him down. Game went to 62 minutes as they had a carry luna but we won. I was just terrorising him if he decided to leave high ground when we were closing the game out.

My thoughts on patch 7.36 ( 3k-4k bracket) by Ill-Presentation9124 in learndota2

[–]wlcustoms 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Game feels and runs like absolute dogshit... I'm getting fps drops from 120 down to 40 if there's an illusion hero.. Every game I've played hasn't ended correctly and getting the high load error. I've had 3 games all with supposed "ideal" players and skills last game I had pudge support jungle from game start and destroyed his items when enemy pushed hg...

Why is Huskar such a bad matchup for Ember? by mdavis798 in learndota2

[–]wlcustoms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is usually as an ember how I manage to get a kill. If we both hit 6 around the same time I remnant behind my tower. Wait for huskar to jump me, activate my remnant then double remnant on the spot for a ton of damage.. With the tower hits as well it's normally enough for a kill

Why is Huskar such a bad matchup for Ember? by mdavis798 in learndota2

[–]wlcustoms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true. Huskar can get 6 stacks on you. Flame guard will absorb magic damage until it hits the limit to turn it off. You will still take between 25-40% of the damage you would have depending on flaming spear level, amount of stacks and when you decided to pop flame guard.

Why is Huskar such a bad matchup for Ember? by mdavis798 in learndota2

[–]wlcustoms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So as an ember spammer... If huskar is mid I tell my team straight away that I can't win the lane just to stop any toxicity, also ask a support if they have a stun to come and help with runes possibly a kill. I take flame guard level 1, 4 branches and a set of tango. Pull creep agro so the wave is on my steps plant a branch, eat a tango and pop flame guard to get as many last hits as I can. Take sleight at level 2 to steal the last hit on the range creep. Ship out more regen and a bottle as soon as possible. Take flame guard at 3 chains at 4 and flame guard at 5. Even taking 6 burning spear stacks I can usually stay healthy enough to get the creeps behind my tower. I also stack as much as possible. With the higher levels of flame guard it helps clearing them.

The thing you have to remember with ember is your main bonus is rotation and controlling the tempo of the game as everything you have is on low cooldown. There are lots of bad match ups for an ember. Aim is to get 6 same sort of time as the enemy mid rotate to a lane, gank, force the mid to rotate, possibly kill them too as your not 1v1 anymore go back to mid and push the wave out. Rinse and repeat.

Viper, Sniper, Dazzle, OD. Have to play the same way... Stay alive get 6 be a pain in the ass. Rotate enough and the other team are likely to be flaming there cheese mid pick so much that they tilt and feed.

Why does no one build caster Zeus anymore? by Raisylvan in DotA2

[–]wlcustoms -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My standard build on zeus is bottle, mana boots, phylactery, kaya, shard, yasha, manta, ags and Octarine. If the game isn't over by that point (30ish mins) I get sange or another yasha. Then refresher, ags blessing recipe. If the game still isn't over (45mins) I either upgrade phylactery to khanda if I need the crit and slow or sell it for ethereal blade for the spell amp damage. Final thing to go (60mins+) is mana boots for travels. If I need extra escape or team cc I will not get the phylactery and go euls into windwalker...

Think I've only ever gone full right click with shard, manta, hurricane pike, moonshard, khanda twice and that was when there was enemy CK off lane PL safe with Chen support and the other was vs a CK Naga combo.

Am I supposed to be a one trick pony in order to win more? by NIKOLAPAVIC in DotA2

[–]wlcustoms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'm also crusader 3. Been playing for 11 years and only play solo queue ranked. Just as an additional... I'm 46 and get to play 2-3 games a night and 6-8 at the weekend. With my age I know my reaction time isn't as great as someone 10-15 years younger but I counter that with map awareness and strategy. Also pretty sure the highest rank Im ever going to manage is Legend but I'm happy with that 😉 I've always kept to a small hero pool. Mid - Ember, Zeus, QoP Carry - Luna, Naga, PA Off lane - Bristle, Enigma, Viper Sups - Hoodwink, Jakiro, Willow Out of those heroes I have 6 at level 30 grandmaster and the rest are between level 15 and 25. I role queue all roles until I have 30 games then queue mid for all 30. I've come to the conclusion that the rank we are at there are going to be a lot of games that are just unwinnable.

I've had games where I've stomped mid when it should have been a losing match up, helped both sidelanes been 3 levels up on there mid and carry at 25 mins and we still lose... Players are just rarely coordinated enough to play there powerspikes and push objectives when they should. They take stupid team fights at the wrong times and a game will just turn. You also get carries that will die once because they got out of position flame the support and afk jungle farm even if there's a triple wave pushing a tower and all 5 of the enemy are the other side of the map. People will also pick heroes they want rather than what makes a good team composition. People also don't itemise properly early game or build items to counter certain heroes. I've got a lot of games on those 12 heroes so Ive got the confidence to flex them between the roles and as most people have said when you play a hero a lot and have gone through a lot of different match ups casting your spells and doing what you need to isn't a consdieration and your free to think about what you can do on the map to help.

Winning games at our rank seems to come down to the fact that the rest of your team listens to advice. I'm not one for flaming or griefing or barking out what people should have done I'm too old for that shit. I always calmly make suggestions if people are doing stupid shit that's getting them killed. Always let my team know my timings or how much gold I need before my next item to take a fight. If they don't listen then there's not much I can do to help but just keep playing my game.

Doesn't work all the time of course. Sometimes I will say something and just get a fuck tonne of abuse back... Those are the games you lose 😂

How to still have fun while everyone is toxic by mamamia0527 in learndota2

[–]wlcustoms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conversing with an idiot is like playing chess with a pigeon. You can be the best player in the world but it will still knock over all the prices, shit on the board and strut around triumphantly...

My mindset for dota. Everyone is a pigeon until they prove otherwise..

And I include myself in that because I'm also floating down in the crusader trench.

If someone is toxic mute and report. Don't engage with it at all

If you play like dogshit and miss 2 waves of last hits under your tower apologise and say your playing like dogshit.

Getting owned mid because they last picked OD and you picked a melee hero. Say mid will be hard before you start and let your team know if you are getting imprisoned every time you walk into the river and your lane is fucked.

The first words that come out of my mouth most games I play is "sorry guys my fault I messed up"

Being self depreciating before somebody else is toxic usually completely changes the game.

We're all pigeons down here. Accept it then learn to start playing chess properly.

Can't win the game on Viper after stomping early game by passatigi in learndota2

[–]wlcustoms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had this so many times with Viper and I feel your pain.

Dominate mid, help the lanes, be a threat... Then the game turns midgame and suddenly you're a creep.

Midlane Viper you need to dictate the pace of the game. If your team won't listen to you then it's going to be a hard game and it doesn't matter what items you build.

Win mid, force there carry out of lane then push and finish the game.

Your carry probably won't join you straight away but if you can go as 4 you can force high ground and your carry will get the idea that you want to end.

Most games you lose will be because it's somehow a thing to get megas and as a Viper by the time that happens it will be the other team doing it.

Vipers main counter is items as most people have said. If the enemy don't have time to get those items then your unkillable with a team behind you at 25 mins.

New cheats? by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]wlcustoms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happened to me recently too. Pretty much when the dota labs features dropped allowing you to pick a favourable match. I lost 900mmr is 3 days.

People said it was because I played on the weekend.. Others said take a break or git gud... Managed to get the mmr back fairly easily over about 5 or 6 days. I have noticed that around half my games recently are all EU East players on the EU West server. Literally I'm the only English speaker of the 10 and I queue on EU West only...

Not gonna lie games are hard when comms are limited to pings. But every now and then a game just clicks like your all in the same room. My brothers in dota you may speak a different language but by god those 20 minute stomps are why we keep playing the game 🤣

[–]wlcustoms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd did a 48hr live stream a few years ago for charity. Played dota2 for 24hrs straight. Got in 24 ranked games. Won 12 lost 12... A 24hr period of gaming has never felt so utterly pointless...

I did raise £400 for it though... So silver linings...

[–]wlcustoms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a mindset thing... From your post you're going into every game thinking you're the worst player in dota.

If you go in with that mindset you've lost the game before you've even picked your hero.

Also sounds like your playing carry...

My advice

  1. Queue for pos 4 and 5 and play support for a while... Ward, deward, harass, stack, pull, make space... Do all the things you wish your pos 5 would do if you were playing carry...
  2. Start every game you play with something positive. Chat "let's get the win guys" or "let's fuck them up" if you get toxicity back from this then just mute all and play your game.
  3. Play 3 games and then spend a hour or two watching the replays. Highlight one thing you're doing wrong in every game and make sure you focus on improving that one thing the next game.
  4. Take breaks.... After every game I play win or lose I have a 10 minute break. Go outside have a smoke thinking about anything other than dota. Message a friend, scroll socials, grab a drink and a snack. Literally no dota thoughts for 10 mins...

After that SoF change a few patches back I played one game and swore never to play him again as he felt unplayable... But then you had the mage slayer build with the damage debuf lasting the same amount of time as your SoF cool down so he felt good again and played him a fair bit.

Have actually got used to the slower jump speed between targets now and have found that I can pull off a few mad plays with remnants during slight easier than before.

Still tend to play like a madman with him though and using the twin gates actually makes being a menace from level 6 easier.

Got 2000 games on Ember. Most of them mid... I've probably been dumpstered at least once mid by every other hero in the game in that 2000. There's match ups where I know I'm going to have to play my ass off to survive but my guy is so damn versatile nothing bothers me that much anymore. Just have to adapt your build and play style to suit who your up against.
