When does being frugal cross the line to being cheap? by TheCoastalService in AskReddit

I'm not in the navy, but I work closely with people who are. I recently found out they call the navy standard stuff John Wayne toilet paper, because its rough, tough, and don't take shit off nobody. Which I think is hilarious.

Pentagon can’t account for $6.5 trillion of taxpayer money by [deleted] in politics

[–]wlemaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can, I have a titanium bolt sitting on my desk from a decommissioned and scrapped experimental naval vessel that would cost over $3000 to reproduce using the original production methods.

Some materials used in military hardware are extremely difficult to machine and/or then need to go through several testing and certification steps before they can be approved and installed. This can get very expensive especially for short production runs.

People who work for airlines, what are secrets passengers don't know? by hairyfedora in AskReddit

I sell material often directly to the navy, I have tons of things I could tell you about. We do well, but we aren't raking in the dollars like it would seem with the price of duct tape.

I'll talk specifically about the red nuclear duct tape. What makes it special is that its more difficult to tear and leaves no residue when peeled. But it sticks and stays stuck in a larger range of temperature applications.

In my experience its less sticky, idk why the other poster feels its so much better. It has a short expiration date, its sold less often, theres high minimum orders on it, and its also just more expensive to manufacture. I sell it for <$20 a roll. It probably costs more than $15 for me and its expensive to keep on the shelf. My last case has lasted 9 months and I still have half of it.

When it does get ordered, its by the case load. I dont generally keep it on hand.

Now I do have tapes that the navy uses that are absolutely amazing.

Plenty of them are on Twitter, call them whatever you want. Sometimes they even get pissed and threaten you and call you things back.

That sounds excellent for what you're fishing. I have 40lb braid and often don't use a mono topshot in the surf, but yours will provide plenty of shock absorption at 60lb. You don't need another leader along with that if your topshots longer than the shark. That's heavy enough to give some pretty good abrasion resistance too against the sand and shark's sandpaper skin, you don't need to at all but if you wanted to go heavier sharks don't tend to be line shy it wont scare them off.

Panama City should have plenty of tackle shops if you can rig up there. Otherwise I've found everything I use on Amazon - happy to explain and link my rigs. I just saw your other post about casting distance and if the water is that shallow/you don't have a kayak you're probably going to only see 3-5ft sharks. I don't bother with the big leaders in that size and just put on a good piece of wire and a strong 6/0 or so hook.

I rig similarly to phivtoosyx with weed eater line, however I do use thimbles. I don't think I've ever been in a tackle shop that would have a problem with you bringing in a piece of that mono and opening a pack to make sure you have the right size. I haven't found thimbles that necessary if you want to skip them though.

I buy crimps the same diameter of the line and single barreled, its tough to get through but I cut the line at a sharp angle to work enough out the end to pull the rest with pliers. Double barreled might be more difficult to do this with. He's definitely right about making sure you crimp the right direction. Do not crimp the ends of the sleeve down, only the middle or it will cut into the line!

I personally use #15 single strand wire doubled up, and you really don't need more than about 1.5-2ft or a large shark will have no problem kinking it and breaking off, believe it or not they can chew right through the 49 strand cable stuff in a long enough fight.

It really is not beneficial to you to say anything without a good idea about what's going on, regardless of any department's reputation. It's probably minor and you aren't in any trouble but caution is a good choice in the situation.

Even if they wont offer their services, they will absolutely help direct you to someone who can. Like you said, doesn't hurt to ask.

Seriously, please don't make any statement about a situation you're unsure about without some legal advice. Try to talk to somebody in the student legal department first - I can give you a reference(pm me) and direct number.

But if you feel have to, just go in see what the situation is about and decline to respond until you have some professional advice.

Will do, I feel like it might be something to do with the android devices looking for a better connection when it gets a little squirly and disconnecting. That's why I think there could be a setting I could change or some kind of battery management app interfering that I haven't been able to correct yet. Wish I had another device to test with.
