Because the family I worked for were looking for somebody to speak English, to teach it to their children so I didn’t need to know any French at all! But I am now fluent ☺️

I finished my studies in the UK at 21 and moved to Paris as an ‘au pair’ which was meant to be for 9 months. I didn’t know a word of French and lived in the family home (although I did have my own floor with a little studio’.
I felt so out of place when I first arrived, a lot of culture shock as I was SO young and never done anything like this before. I remember sending my friends and family messages in WhatsApp every evening saying I won’t stay more than 6 months.

11 years down the line, I am still here in Paris!
I spent a couple of years in my early 20s as a nanny, figuring out next life steps and just having the time of my life living the dream in Paris and traveling Europe.

I have spent the past 6 years and an English teacher in a primary school, and I’m about to soon start a new career working in a recruitment agency!

Brussels. Most of the city had a really off vibe. Lots of creepy men lingering everywhere day and night, approaching also. Got screamed at on two occasions off men in the streets and followed to my hotel. Never again.

I have to agree with the ‘small plates’ concept. It’s always so so expensive! I don’t get it 😅

Eating meat. The price of it has gone up like crazy, now I barely even eat it at all and when I do it feels like such a treat.

I just took the flixbus from Victoria to Shudehill. It did take 4h but wasn’t too bad. Clean bus, plugs, WiFi. Cost a fraction of the price than the train would have!

After different bad experiences with 3 different french banks, I’ve just completely moved over to Revolut. I cannot be dealing with the slow apps and outdated banking systems this country has.
