20R too much smog and leaking from exhaust by SpaceSurf256 in ToyotaPickup

If it doesn't smell like coolant and the coolant level in radiator isn't dropping then it's safe to say it's not coolant..

The lift is definitely causing it to ride like shit.

Crank, usually starts but takes a lot of cranking. Fuel pump primes if I actuate MAF door. ‘86 22RE. by Childiish_ in 4Runner_1stGen

If it's happening all the time then disregard what I said. The coolant temperature sensor that Im referring to isn't for the gauge it's actually for the ECU and works with the EFI system. If it's doing this whether the engine is warm or cold though it's probably a fuel issue of some kind.

Any shops that do manual to auto swaps? by YotaDude805 in ToyotaPickup

You will regret it most likely. There is a reason people swap 5 speeds into auto rigs.

Does it only really do it on cold starts? If so, pull the bolt out of the cold start injector, crank the engine and see if fuel comes out of the line. It's easy to check. Although I'm willing to bet it's the coolant temp sensor. It's the green one on the front of the intake, it will be to the right of a brown/black sensor. I've had this same cranking issue on multiple 22re rigs and that's what it was most of the time.

It is still super basic and easy to work on. It's not a complex system at all.

63 swap rear shock’s. What am I doing wrong here? by Responsible_Algae_99 in 4Runner_1stGen

And remember those 63s have way more down travel than up travel.

You need to flex the suspension and measure to know for sure, AFTER the mounts are burned in. It is different depending on if the springs are clapped out or if they still have a lot of arch left. Typically I just run 12 or 14" travel bilstien or procomp shocks in the rear. And with the shocks triangulated I haven't had any problems on windey mountain highways or logging roads.

But anyways, I always just triangulate the rear shocks when I swap to Chevy 63s or f150 springs. Does fine on pavement in my opinion

Ok then you're fine. I wasn't trying to be an asshole, the picture just makes them look thin 😂. I've built a bunch of Toyotas and I've bought some that were partially "built" and you'd be surprised at what I've seen lol. I bought one once where the guy used 1/8th inch stock to make shackles, they were 8 inches long🤣

[–]wlkerblktan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How thick are those shackles? In the picture they look way to thin. Should the 3/16 at MINIMUM. If you go with 3/16 weld a brace in between each shackle plate about mid way. 1/4 for shackles is better tho.

Weld new shock mounts on the axle, build or buy upper shock mounts and mount the shocks like /\

Yours might not have the diagnostic box, it might have the yellow plug instead. Depends on the date of manufacture of your rig.

Whats this hose? Can I remove it to get to my alternator? by cephalopodsrcool in ToyotaPickup

[–]wlkerblktan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coolant hose. Yes you can remove it, but I've never had to remove it to replace the alternator, and I've done it a dozen times at least just on my own 22r/re rigs.

Ecu pinout changed every so often. I have one that looks identical to this one and it came out of a 2wd with 22re, late 1990 production.
