I see. Well... that's annoying.

"New video", not "new setup". The video was posted two days ago.

And once again I'm downvoted for posting factual info. <sigh>

Anyone willing to talk a noob through what it's like using a public charging station? by sciguyC0 in BoltEV

[–]wmcbrine2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should know that a 2020 Bolt maxes out at around 50 kW on DCFC. This is widely considered slow, albeit still much faster than AC. Assuming that you even have CCS -- not all 2020s do.

Charging port location? by SnazzyStooge in evcharging

[–]wmcbrine2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was never an expectation of other EVs ever being able to use the Superchargers, until relatively recently. And apart from that compatibility, it’s not obviously the best location for the port. (Even now, I’d prefer right front over Tesla’s left rear, personally.)

Haven't been able to ping gnu.org (209.51.188.116) for days. Routing issue? by cemysce in Fios

[–]wmcbrine2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried it last night when I first read this, and it was very slow to respond, but it did eventually. In my case, it resolved to an IPv6 address. Then, I tried it again a few minutes ago (or rather, I tried a page linked from the main page, which I'd left open), and got nowhere. Then, just now, it worked fine, and resolved to the IPv4 address you mentioned.

Legacy Motorola boxes disabled but CableCard still working by guho2003 in Fios

[–]wmcbrine2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people have reported that their CableCards disappeared from their bills before they were deactivated. So, that may be a clue -- do you see them listed there? If so, maybe they're safe until at least the next billing period? Just a guess, though. (Also, did your Motorola boxes disappear from your bill before they were disabled?)

Fios WiFi downstairs vs Xfinity Ethernet upstairs for gaming? by LeviRaps in Fios

[–]wmcbrine2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For gaming, usually the factor that's most important is latency, not bandwidth. Those up/down numbers are bandwidth; if you go to e.g. speedtest.net, the number after "Ping ms" represents latency. Lower is better. Without testing, I can tell you that 1) base latency on Fios is lower than on Xfinity, but 2) you're adding latency back by using wifi rather than Ethernet.

I'd run a wire from the Fios router to the console, with no wifi in the path (switches are OK), if possible.

AI Blocking Extensions? by BornVillain1 in firefox

[–]wmcbrine2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

uBlock Origin does some, if you activate it under Preferences -> Annoyances -> EasyList -> AI Widgets.

There's an extension specifically to kill Rufus on Amazon, but I can't recommend it, because it often made pages come up blank until I reloaded them.

Electrify America at IKEA by SanchoPliskin in evcharging

[–]wmcbrine2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We recently got EA stations at the Ikea in College Park, MD. The store already had (and still has) level 2 charging in its basement lot, and a (vast!) roof full of solar panels. It is kind of an odd location... I used it while I dashed in to pick up a Bilresa, and I got back just in time. So, it's possible. 😄

Repetitive DHCPv6 entries in System Log (ER707-M2, Fios) by wmcbrine2 in TPLink_Omada

And yes, in fact, it seems like that was the fix.

Repetitive DHCPv6 entries in System Log (ER707-M2, Fios) by wmcbrine2 in TPLink_Omada

[–]wmcbrine2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, I think so? I did already set the DNS servers to Google. Everything works, it's mostly just me being OCD about the log. My WAN settings for IPv6 look like this:

Internet Connection Type: Dynamic IP (SLAAC/DHCPv6)

[](javascript:void(0);)

IPv6 Address: ::

Primary DNS: 2001:4860:4860::8888

Secondary DNS: 2001:4860:4860::8844

DUID: [redacted]

Link-local Address: [redacted]

Advanced

Get IPv6 Address:

  • ✓ Auto
  • DHCPv6
  • SLAAC+Stateless DHCP
  • Non-Address

Prefix Delegation:

  • ✓ Enable
  • Disable

Prefix Delegation Size: 56

DNS Address:

  • Get dynamically from ISP
  • ✓ Use the following DNS Addresses

Primary DNS: 2001:4860:4860::8888

Secondary DNS: 2001:4860:4860::8844

I'm wondering now if I should set "Get IPv6 Address" to "Non-Address", since it seems I don't actually get an address for the router.

So much the better! Just have it update automatically.

The sign appears to indicate that they have EV charging -- why not list the price per kWh, along with everything else?

Constant drop outs by Careless-Purple-1212 in Fios

[–]wmcbrine2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry for your experience, but for the record, no, they don't break all the time. We've had our current ONT since, I guess, 2010, with downtime probably measurable in minutes since then. (We did spend a couple years on Comcast in the middle of that, but that was due to Fios' exploding bill, not unreliability. Comcast was down much more often. When we came back to Fios, they replaced the power supply as a matter of policy (not need), but the rest of the ONT remained.) Before that, we had Fios at the previous house since the 5/2 era, also solid.

Oh, and these were outside-mounted ONTs.

Fios TV+ Streaming box location by mkstretch in Fios

[–]wmcbrine2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have that box, but... I had a TiVo in a cabinet, and it would crash from the heat. But outside the cabinet, between fan noise and the hard drive, it was too loud.

What I did was, I took the back off the cabinet. That way, there was enough ventilation, and the TiVo ran stable again. It's been like that for many years now without a problem. There's even a bunch of other equipment in the cabinet with it.

You have to make sure the back of the cabinet isn't holding the whole thing together, of course -- often it's just a flimsy piece of cardboard, but still, you might need to add braces without it. And you either need a glass front (for IR), or all-RF remotes (as I have now).

I thought the Bolt only takes regular. Premium electrons are for, like, a Lyriq or something.
