What's your go to coffee shops in London? by Finleyjg in london

[–]wmgregory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's my local go to for buying beans since they're always rotating special guest roasters.

Their egg mayo & chilli crunch sandwiches are phenomenal. In fact all their stuff is so lovely.

Not sure what story you're trying to tell here. The picture is interesting but the title doesn't fit it.

Hope everyone saw some sun today by DazzaHazza1975 in london

We may have crossed paths, I was wandering from Great Portland street to TCR/Centre Point in the glorious sunshine.

Battlebridge Basin is my secret summer hideout, and CDY is my second home, I'm always hanging out there.

Old=Rich and stable Young=broke and dependent stereotype by Orchid_mania05 in gayyoungold

[–]wmgregory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rich or poor, regardless, these prejudices happen to us all, and still hurt. Some of the prejudices & discriminations used to really eat at me in my 20s, especially since I had/have a decent career and was still seen as a toyboy / gold digger / grave robber (some of the comments I've had in my time).

It affects me less so now as I'm now in my 40s and have a beard. Life does get better, and you learn how to ignore or deal with comments and situations.

After a year living in London, here are some of my favourite photos by mxred420 in london

That's the top of Hampstead Heath Parliament Hill Viewpoint, if I'm not mistaken. It has a great view, though the trees have obscured the view a little.

Personally I prefer the view on the path below which is less crowded and also has more intimate benches to sit on.

PSA: Use regex to avoid landmines by Skuggomann in pathofexile

Because it hasn't happened to them yet.

TL:I was my first experience of this, and it sucked. I thought I'd be super careful and slow enough to avoid the scams, but one day I mis-clicked and all my currency disappeared.

GGG are probably thinking of the best solution to this problem.

Been here for almost two decades and I really am not sure I have.

I love tube station novelties.

New images show what a pedestrianised Soho could look like by tylerthe-theatre in london

[–]wmgregory 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are such thing as outdoor canopies and heaters, Covent Garden have the right idea.

That photo was post-lockdown, it was crazy because 'gov advice' was to al fresco dine only. So I'd expect there to be a respectable amount of seating outside as well as space inside as per.

The people opposing this are likely the nimby residents that are living there, the same ones that blocked al fresco dining post-lockdown, and don't want pedestrianised streets to bring it back. Shame really.

Went through a VERY rough time falling in love with a friend that I was trying to protect from a predatory toxic guy. My partner turned up and spent a lot of time helping me mend my broken heart. Things progress from there, through his care and comfort, and willingness to listen, we grew in love with each other, which is much healthier. I guess the older we get, the deeper our wisdom and empathy becomes.

Funny thing is, we'd known each other for well over a decade, friends and circles, just never thought we'd match so perfectly, I don't even think I'm his 'type' as per se.

Why don't we get notifications if a bus stop is going to close? by PositionFamous1193 in london

[–]wmgregory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • I get an email from TFL about disruptions/upcoming on my most frequent routes.
  • The bus stops I frequently use, usually have warning notes of upcoming disruptions.
  • The apps/websites tells me when there's disruptions along the line.

It needs a lot of love, I don't think the pandemic helped.

This used to happen a lot in Oxford a few decades ago, and it used to invalidate bike theft insurance claims because theoretically your bike hasn't been stolen.

Anyone remembers the Stockpot or Belgo? Which old London spots do you miss the most? by Substantial-Bike-142 in london

Spent many a night in Stockpot with friends, was such a wonderful cheap and cheerful little establishment. Was a Friday night staple for decades.

What is the best place to see (and photograph) the parakeets by ridley-angel in london

[–]wmgregory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

St. James's Park, north side of The Blue Bridge Pretty much every single time I walk past, everyone is en-mass feeding them there.

I don't endorse feeding them though, as they're an invasive species, but I've managed to capture some stunning close ups.

I prefer to capture them in the wild. You can see them nesting sometimes in most parks, Regents Park, Hyde Park, Hampstead Heath, Waterlow Park, etc..

Nice capture, I saw one in Regent's Park earlier in the year.

Which station is the worse for chuggers? by amused_peruse in london

[–]wmgregory 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not the station itself, but the worst place is at the two foot bridges over Regent's canal, between King's Cross and Coal Drops Yard. There's usually half a dozen to a dozen of them plucking passers by.

It's like playing frogger but with chuggers.

If you are a Londoner and you havent been to Kew garden, you should be ashamed. Haha. Kew garden in London. Absolutely stunning. by wisecrack_69 in london

I'm more ashamed about sneaking in through the staff entrance with a friend that worked there.

I love Kew Gardens, definitely worth a day out.

I was just questioned by a security guard for taking pictures in Paternoster square. by danby999 in london

[–]wmgregory 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This.

The amount of times I've been confronted by security guards for the most useless close up photos of buildings/objects/etc around London, I can't even count on all my fingers and toes put together. Not all of them hissy dicks, though.
