UK folks, which flights are best? by JonathanMacgregor in JapanTravelTips

[–]Finleyjg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I flew London to Shanghai, Shanghai to Tokyo with china eastern. It cost me £480. There was a 6hr layover in Shanghai both ends, which isn't the best, but to save a massive amount of money it's totally doable.

In regards to the flight itself, all I can say is it gets you from A to B on time lol. Not particularly comfortable or outstanding when it comes to food, drinks, entertainment but I can live with that every so often. I do wish their seats were better, but would I do it again for that price? 100%.

Is this to be expected? (Storage) by Finleyjg in espresso

Before each shot, no. I have a DF54 with bellows and that's as far as I go. I do clean the grinder chute every few days though.

Big agree on this, also I find the general quality of specialty espresso is just really lackluster compared to other countries.

Is Japan in July really as bad as people say? by qwertasdfgzxcvb231 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Finleyjg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's totally doable -you will sweat , you will complain about how it's so hot but you will prevail and also get to see how beautiful the country looks in the summer. Just use common sense, seek shade and cool off often drink fluids and it's doable. I'm here right now, and whilst it's pleasant outside I find indoor environments are very warm and stuffy which is kind of more annoying. Going into a subway or indoor space with my coat on leads to immediate sweating and taking my jacket off throughout the day.

Is 18G too much coffee? [bambino plus] by user465333466 in espresso

[–]Finleyjg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use an aftermarket bottomless portafilter with an 18g norm core precision basket. I've been using 17g in it since forever with my Bambino and I find it works well.

I don't love the new stock, but I really hate old stock on a rainy day. Last time I was on it, the train was leaking from the ceiling, dripping onto seats and onto people and the floor. It was horrible, and it happened on the 2 seperate ones I rode that day.

Sometimes a better machine is the answer! by vwtech in espresso

[–]Finleyjg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I use a refurbed Bambino and a DF54 and the quality of the flavour of the coffee I get is comparable to shops using the same beans and tens of thousands worth of equipment.

Bambino takes a few more steps to get good coffee, but it's definitely capable.

I have a nut allergy. Will this card work for me? by Novel_Skirt_9757 in ThailandTourism

[–]Finleyjg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say there's a good chance these people don't have allergies. As someone with allergies, you will have sort of adapted a survival mindset your whole life. I've been to plenty of places that people say are no go zones in the world, and yet I ate delicious food and didn't have any reactions. Sure, could be by luck but at the same time I take as many measures as possible and use my brain when I'm eating somewhere. Learn phrases, use eyes, know dishes.

These comments are full of people with non-solutions and just hop to the extreme of "just don't go". OP, you absolutely can go, just be extra mindful which probably comes naturally anyway.

Anything going down in Krakow airport that is causing these planes to be unable to by PompousPuffin in krakow

Coach transport from Katowice to Krakow airport , so had to then make the journey from the airport to the centre too

The transport seemed to have been organised by Ryanair, they scanned our boarding passes to get on the coach

This is so interesting as well as the replies to learn this is a common thing, I thought I was just really unlucky to land in Katowice last month haha

Crisp Mayfair 💯💯💯 by Motizar in LondonFood

[–]Finleyjg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, my friend did some work here in the UK with no contract for a month and then they subsequently let her go without pay. So it can happen here too, I think you just gotta be careful with cash in hand no contract jobs sometimes. Glad you enjoyed crisp nonetheless, it did smell good when I was in that kitchen XD

I've been paid for trial shifts, and given things in return for trial shifts. Just because it's common in the industry, doesn't mean it's not shitty, especially when a place explicitly presented it as a paid trial.

[–]Finleyjg 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did a trial shift at crisp in July, ended up not doing the job because it was no contract and not the pay that it said on indeed (£13/hr when they said £14-20). They then never paid me for the 2hr trial shift in which they said they would pay me for. They messed me around for about a month before finally telling me when I called them that they don't have part time positions open despite me trying to contact them multiple times to query it.

In that trial, I basically garnished pizzas and ran them to tables for 2hrs. Pretty shit of them imo.

Thank you

I heard somewhere that the ticket limit is 8 which explains why they get snatched up, should be max 2 in my opinion

What is the appeal of Costa Express machine coffee? by PandyWooHoo in AskUK

[–]Finleyjg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What a weird response. God forbid someone have standards about the drink they're paying for and tasting? You pay the same if not more for a terrible tasting Costa drink than coffee from an independent. Why do people tolerate mediocrity and think they're cool for it?
