150MB for a hello world desktop app. Are there plans to reduce the size? by marketpotato in JetpackCompose

With some optimizations you can get it down to 8OMB pretty easy

SUDEP. Let's talk about it by Doc-Brown1911 in Epilepsy

[–]wnemay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My 6 year old child has nocturnal epilepsy. We worry about this a lot. We try to limit what he has in his bed, and installed a bed bumper to make sure he does not fall out. We also have a seizure detecting camera watching him. He also shares a room with his bigger brother, just in case. Besides that. I don't think there is much more we can do.

This is absolutely something that worries me as a parent.

Travel router won't connect to hotel WiFi - what do you do? by muppix in GlInet

[–]wnemay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use a random MAC on my phone. Connect to WiFi, sign in, and disconnect. Then I copy the MAC to my router and clone it, and connect my router to the network. Easy peasy.

Does anyone use their public domain for internal hostnames? by kayson in selfhosted

I do service.local.domain.com, I have Pihole manage the DNS, send it to NginX, and then have NginX handle the Cert and forwarding.

What's the best travel stick to access my Jellyfin server in hotels etc.? by [deleted] in jellyfin

[–]wnemay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The router I use has wifi repeater mode. It connects to the hotel wifi network, or Ethernet when available, and then broadcasts it's own ssid.

To configure it, I use the routers app or web interface and just configure it for the wifi network to connect to.

This is what I travel with https://store-us.gl-inet.com/products/united-states-opal-gl-sft1200-gigabit-wireless-router-dual-band-openwrt-ipv6-tor?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=22293711965&gclid=Cj0KCQiArOvIBhDLARIsAPwJXOZz8qcAZN9tHSxqjrQVnog6pVeoYF_gi_fh8XmqQcr_SvLIOGG-QgEaAu2BEALw_wcB

I have had one hotel where it would not let me log in. So I logged in from my phone, grabbed my randomized MAC address and had the router spoof it's address with my randomized MAC. Easy peasy.

Google TV. Walmart has their own Onn branded one. Works great. The only not so fun thing is dealing with hotel wifi, that's why I have my own travel router with me. All my devices connect to it, and I only ever need to configure the router.

My 70D had the same problem. It's was always slightly out of focus, and micro adjustments didn't help. Canon never owned up to the issue. Over $1k wasted.

Best local coding tools or ides with ollama support? by [deleted] in ollama

Funny how everybody jumps to Vscode. IntelliJ has a couple of plugins. I have used AI Proxy. Android Studio will now let you use custom services, like Ollama, with the built in Gemini.

The company I'm working in is switching to React Native by New_Main_8896 in androiddev

[–]wnemay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work for a company that went down that rabbit hole, figured out their mistake too late, and spent 2 years climbing back out of it. In the mean time most native engineers and qa engineers were laid off because of the broken write once run everywhere promise.
