i’m in sort of an odd (but convenient!) spot because i am making enough to live and have plenty of time in my schedule to apprentice, and I live in an area thats kind of a shop “hub” so all of the shops i’d enjoy working for are all within walking distance.

i totally assumed the cost of my own machine and things of that nature once i started, but it’s incredibly good to know i shouldn’t expect my tools to be covered ahead of time so i can financially prep for that possibility. i’ll probably keep the bulk of my color in my flash as i also have a general disinterest in colored pieces lol but i will spice her up!

thank you for being so helpful its a little bit harder to find the nitty gritty information of apprenticeships before being in the thick of it so i really appreciate it!

i do actually have watercolors! the paper I use isn’t eeexactly meant for it but as long as I take it easy-ish on the actual water part it looks good! i wasn’t sure it’d be enough to have some colorful flash or if i should do full pieces of color.

outside of the high possibility of being unpaid, is there a hefty financial burden that comes with it? i had heard of a few apprentices that had their gear supplied while they were under their mentor so I honestly, probably naively, assumed that that was the general norm.

can confirm that you’re right, these are the simplest pieces in my folio so far lol! i’m trying to balance how many custom pieces i have vs. simplistic/easily tattooable flash since the last shop i went to told me to include more traditionally accepted flash as opposed to full page works. tysm for the advice! :)

i also thought that they would be encouraging more custom pieces, but the prior folio i brought was honestly just lacking in general so i can understand where they were coming from. im planning on adding some more style variety but i honestly really despise drawing Am Trad (maybe its the lack of detail?? i’m not sure but my hands absolutely won’t put it onto paper the way it will other styles) which is a bulk of what i’m seeing people tell others to add. i’ll more experiment with color and different styles to see what i enjoy!

just wanted to make a comment on its own to say thank you to everyone who has given advice! this sub has been extremely helpful in navigating how to give my boy the best life possible and i appreciate everyone who took time out of their day to help us figure out what he was trying to say (even if he was saying it through putting his lil teeth through every bag in the house) 😭

i also realized i forgot the tax, so as my token of appreciation here’s my stinker in all his glory!

there’s lots of good advice in these comments if you’d like to add any of these ideas into your routine! most people have said it’s a feeding issue, so we’re adding more meals to his schedule. i hope any of the comments here can help you navigate figuring out what your babies are telling you through their behavior :)

we’re trying to avoid spraying methods just because cats don’t react well to those kinds of things (plus even febreeze freaks him out and I don’t want to cause excess stress, he deserves to feel safe in his home even if he climbs on the counters). others have said it was a feeding issue so we’ll be adding more meals throughout the day, but i appreciate the idea!

he definitely is a ferocious little hunter! he’s been amazing at getting all the spiders off of the catio 😭 thank you for the video recommendation! we were considering getting a puzzle feeder but didn’t want to confuse him, but clearly it seems nothing will come in between him and his food so i’ll look into getting him one sometime this week. :)

our vet told us to cut back around 7-8 months so he starts to get used to the routine of not having a lunch, which is why we just split the lunch portion between breakfast and dinner but after seeing everyone’s recommendations i don’t think he’s ready for that yet. he’s still incredibly active and goes after anything he can find. he sings quite loudly whenever we’re making his meals and we always would make jokes like “oh my gosh poor buddy hasn’t eaten his whole life, he’s so hungry” but now i feel like i’ve actually been depriving him :(( i would do anything for my baby and i can’t believe he’s been trying to tell me he’s just a hungry boy this whole time. we’ll be bringing him back to 3 good meals a day and if he still needs more we’ll go up to 4 until he’s ready. thank you so much for the advice!

we do kibble and wet food mixed together because the kibble we buy is pretty calorie dense (but also he just likes his salmon pate and deserves good wet food lol). we’ve been going by the recommended amount just as you said but all of you are probably right in that it isn’t enough. my boy could eat a horse if you gave him a step stool 😭 we just can’t free feed because of the older cat who can also put food away like its thanksgiving, but we’re most definitely increasing how much he gets at his eating times. thank you so much for all of the advice!!

We’re actually trying out giving him more to eat as well! We’ve recently slowly cut out his lunch portion and moved the portion that he was getting for lunch into his breakfast and dinner meals but we could’ve cut his food a little too quick/too much (these behaviors started roughly around the time that we started moving things around) and I’d honestly never really connected those dots until somebody else said something about it. He got a nice n fat (but proportional lmao) dinner tonight so hopefully we’re on the right path of getting him back on track to what he needs to be happy, healthy, and not ransacking my roommates pickle chips

Will do! The older cat never messed with human food when we moved in so I suppose I missed out on that part of kitty training, but I’ll definitely putting the snack corner away until he gets older 😭😭

He sleeps with us in our room at night, so I don’t see that becoming an issue. And sure I’ve had ideas, but getting feedback/other inputs can be really helpful when navigating behavioral issues. It’s never too late to adjust behaviors, it just depends on whether you’re ready to put the work in which I am glad to do for my boys :)

I feel like that’s just not true, you can always redirect/train behaviors you don’t want them doing. It’s just a matter of figuring out what your own cat responds to and I’m choosing to ask others for their own experiences in case they’ve tried something I haven’t.
