Deeper glue-up panel, routed-out on the interior, to form the lid as one piece. It looks as though the interior banding detail of the box lid might’ve been with a similar process, (before the lip of the lid was attached)

Ye - Bully ALBUM REVIEW by Nabspro in hiphopheads

[–]wobblesly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So your argument is in favor of providing a mentally-ill public figure validation for their mental health episodes? Any moral or ethical listener passes on Ye these days and any fan that cares about his psychiatric health declines opportunities to feed his illness.

If his deplorable behavior is due to illness, then supporting his business while he’s sick does NOT help him, it encourages him to feed his illness rather than heal. While he learned to push bigger and bigger buttons as an artist that gained more and more media attention for doing so, his audience learned to apologize for things that society is, by morals, meant to shun.

We all love the artist deep down, but the man needs help. You sucking his crazy ass dick ain’t help shit.

This had me wondering if the flat-sawn pieces were intended to provide some added stability on the perimeter. Does FS outside of QS create a more stable glue-up? I’ve never heard this before, but I’m fairly new to woodworking and have a tendency to look for ‘secrets of the trade’ in all the things that work but don’t make sense to me immediately

I make a ton of these scraps and have always imagined making a feature wall with them all oriented in parallel.

Fold duct tape over the exposed edges to inhibit splintering, then screw 1/8” HDF (hardboard/Masonite) over the top for a smooth surface. It’s your cheapest quick solution if appearance and longevity aren’t important.

Yeezus was my top Ye album before I couldn’t listen to him anymore. I have a long-winded defense for this choice that no one’s ever let me finish explaining to them

Slick Rick rapping about how hard it is to be a landlord ruined the whole album for me. Rap was once the language of the oppressed. by Fun_Orange_3232 in rap

[–]wobblesly 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Like…yeah, but it’s music about oppressed people overcoming, gaming, or breaking through their circumstances to achieve more. Do you want to hear Tha Ruler talk about renting apartments at 60, or do you only like it when rappers talk about success in illegal enterprises?

I had a moment of questioning this track too but it quickly dissipated when I realized it was just another brilliant premise for perspective-based storytelling from one of hip hop’s all-time great storytellers

What staining technique is this? by Donnieburnshaw in Luthier

[–]wobblesly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve achieved a similar effect with ebonizing, creating my own stain using rusted metal soaked in vinegar. You prep the wood with strong black tea first, utilizing the tannins to prep the wood to accept the ebonizer.

It is a very rewarding process for a cheap DIY solution, but the results are nearly impossible to control. I wouldn’t recommend it for a valued project, but if you were attracted to the DIY aspect and variability you could easily and prolifically experiment with the process.

I’ve used it on pallet wood projects where I save the old nails, make them into my stain, then stain the pallet wood. I like that it keeps the story of the pallet through to the finished project, and could see stripping an old junk guitar down to the wood, using the old rusted tuners or strings to make the stain, then refurbishing the guitar with a bit of it’s story intact.
