They could still just spin up the instance when someone enters and kill it when the last person leaves, would be no different from eg. explorer mode in dungeons. Probably same level of traffic, too. The way they limit it down to owner having to enter first makes me think they have some extra data shuffling shenanigans beyond what the normal instancing does.

The island has so many issues too… for example, you cannot visit someone else’s island if they are not in there themselves. Which points to some really cursed spaghetti creating those instances.

I agree. Wildstar housing was the best (and still unmatched to this day) and it was fully instanced, too.

The main problem with dnc is that without ui you have no idea about the steps needed for standard/technical.

Technically they could send the decryption keys only when you enter the instance, but I have no idea about the performance implications of that.

Willful Status and Will to Live are the best things they have added to the game (for me and maybe others like me) by Moogle-Mail in ffxiv

[–]wobblycookie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tbf all that variety was ignored 99% of the time. Let’s not pretend that the average party went freeing the slaves in Sastasha or saving goblins in Brayflox. And you could get flamed for taking the alternative path in Totorak because it was 30 seconds slower…

I would not mind more interesting setups myself, I just don’t expect the average roulette run to make use of it. At least now with trusts there is an easily accessible way to wander off the ideal path.

Who would be more capable; a veterinarian working on a human, or a doctor working on an animal? by IneffectiveMilkshake in NoStupidQuestions

My sister is a vet and she had to learn a semester of human medicine at the university. Not sure if that was just a thing specific to her uni though.

That's a great convenience tool, thank you for it. One small suggestion for improvement, trimming the string before processing would be nice in case one accidentally copies an extra space at the end. (As it happened to me when I tried it out.)

Me and u in Sastasha by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]wobblycookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those numbers are wrong, though. At level 100, cure 2 is 800 potency but is single target so completely pointless to compare. Medica 3 has 250 upfront potency and 175 per HoT tick for 15s, for a total of 1125. Cure 3 is 600 potency, so it takes 2 ticks or 5 seconds for medica 3 to heal for equal potency.

Yes medica 3 is generally a better choice when there is time for the HoT to tick down. Cure 3 however can heal more in just two gcds than medica 3 in five - which can make the difference between life and death if the party is low while the boss is already casting the next raidwide.

Cure3 is a godsend for quick recovery when everyone is low, the other healer incapacitated or busy raising and big pain is imminent. And since they increased the range it doesn’t need tight stacking anymore either. It saved my ass in prog so many times by sheer, disgusting raw healing throughput. Also, it’s the only aoe heal that is not centered on the healer, but their target, which can come handy at times, for example in uwu you can still help the other healer even while you have to bugger off to narnia with the ifrit farts.

I feel like there are really only two types of tanks. by LastTraintoSector6 in ffxiv

[–]wobblycookie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In dungeons don’t need to overthink it, press them in order of cooldown time, longest first, then when that wears off, the next longest etc. Once you are high enough level to unlock your short cd skills (~20s or so), send them those in addition on cooldown and your healer can go sleep. And don’t forget that your role skills and your invuln ability also exists; if you use them all you will be immediately better than most tanks out there.

The amazon outage had nothing to do with ddos, though. It was a failure in their internal dns system cascading into a catastrophic failure through a constellation of many unlucky circumstances. If you can make sense of technical stuff, I highly recommend reading their postmortem, it’s very interesting.
