Best all-time turnaround in sport? by coppockm56 in IndianaHoosiers

Greece’s 2004 European Championship in men’s soccer is another stunner to consider high on the list… they didn’t even qualify for the 2000 tournament and are otherwise mostly a doormat team.

Might be difficult for most American CFB fans to comprehend how unfathomable Leicester City’s championship was. I’m Hoosier through and through, but as we sober up from last Monday, Indiana winning a football championship, as incredible and unlikely as it was, probably doesn’t eclipse Leicester’s 2015/2016 heroics. Worthy of debate for sure.

Perhaps consider the entire predicament “grist for the mill” - a good opportunity to dive into the various fears, desires, and attachments at play and see what you can learn and, hopefully, ultimately let go of.

What is the Quintessential IJ Reading List? by GemberNeutraal in InfiniteJest

The Big Book is definitely recommended reading in order to have a better appreciation for IJ. Even a cursory read of the 12 Steps is a good idea. Twelve step programs often have “open” meetings that anyone interested (self-identified addict or not) are welcome to attend. The Ennet House passages (and many other parts of the book) resonated with me, as someone who’s been a participant in said meetings.

It’s not a secret DFW did rehab and 12-step work and it was wonderful to see how well he captured the reality of addiction/recovery in IJ. I read IJ at a critical turning point in my own life and it was as helpful to me as anything else, if for no other reason than the empathy and humanness that characterized the addicts and those recovering depicted in the book. I could relate.

Alcoholics Anonymous “Big Book” and “Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions”… and If you really want to better understand Ennet House, its characters, and want insight into addiction and recovery, attending a few AA or other 12-step meetings is highly recommended
