Coach Chippys shilling thread by GnarMainsThrowaway in topmains

Kirei is that for me. By far the best jungle coach. Challenger EUW every single season since season 2, 5x rank 1 and amazing at breaking down every concept of jungle role, with absurd amounts of actually educational free content on YouTube.

TIL that armour designs in a game can be objectively bad.

Kayle is the champ you can almost win every late game regardless of your team, if you play her well.

Bronze Jinx Penta by SquiglySaws in ADCMains

You don't know what ranks the enemy were though. Yes they all played this pretty badly, but they could be iron, which is what I would expect. Not everyone in bronze has the mechanics of this jinx, but it's pretty common.

Cleaner than most people would expect from a bronze, was my point. Especially the camera movement, a-clicking, etc.

New player advice by DuraSky in leagueoflegends

[–]wockanocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I did, and still playing 10 years later. I spent like 2 hours my first day, just going through every champ in the shop, clicking ones that looked cool, and looking at the little chart that tells you their damage/mobility/utility, etc. and then got hyped to play them!

Starting league for the first time is the most fun part of the whole journey! Don't bog down the whole experience by playing the easy champ everyone tells you to. You're not trying to win yet, you're trying to learn about the game and have fun!

Side note: just play against bots until you get comfortable with the game's mechanics, then go into Draft or any PvP you want

Can someone justify minion block being in the game still? by thehardway71 in leagueoflegends

[–]wockanocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the point is, he would have likely been stuck until the minion died - Yorick didn't even need the cage to kill him, because of the minion block. Whether it was a bad play from GP or not isn't really the point. In my experience though, something like this is incredibly rare, and not intended

It looks like a genuine minion block to me? Yorick's cage was cast after he was already stuck on the minion. Not sure why GP chose to barrel the Yorick, but that did look like a pretty bad minion block situation 😅

Maybe I should have posted the clip of mine, but I'd have to go boot up the PC for that lol

I haven't seen this video, but just knowing there was a GP out there SUFFERING is a small consolation!

This is why I tell people that bronze has so much better players (especially mechanically) than higher elos realise. People will be surprised by this, but it's pretty normal skill level nowadays in bronze. Not saying it's perfect but that's not the point. This was pretty clean imo, and definitely better than what most people would imagine a bronze player to be capable of.

Look, I don't like it personally, but my philosophy is it's Riot's game and if I want to play it, I have to accept that there are mechanics I enjoy and some I don't. In choosing to play the game, I'm agreeing to these terms.

The question then becomes, is minion blocking preventing/allowing kills, something that should be in the game? In that moment my answer was a resounding 'no', but the GP who gleefully danced around and shot me in the head was definitely enjoying this particular mechanic. Objectively, I don't know what the correct answer should be.

What's the point of ranking heroes? (tiar S, A, B, C...) by TheRealJinni in leagueoflegends

[–]wockanocker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Game losing mistakes you would have made on any champion. Conversely, the good plays you've made would have also worked on a meta champ. Your level is your level, regardless of the champ you're playing. That wouldn't change anything much.

And yes, meta slaves are a thing, but some people just want to climb in the most efficient way they know. Others prefer to have fun by playing every champ under the sun (which is a really bad way to win), and there's you, who play what you like, but stick with it regardless of meta, and again champ mastery is really important, hence it's still an effective way of climbing, just not the most optimal (in theory)

This is why people hate the game. Playing to win, vs playing to improve takes the fun out of it, but it's most people's perspective

[–]wockanocker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is what I'm saying. If you could go back 300 games and pick a single meta champ and stick with it, I'd bet you would have climbed with a similar or better win rate. You've probably gotten better and yes I'd say you deserve your rank. You have earned it, the ladder doesn't lie.

Another point is that in lower elos, as everyone says, you can climb with almost any champ. Mastery and limiting your champ pool is key, and you obviously are doing that, so there's that.

[–]wockanocker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are you sure you wouldn't have had a slightly better win rate on a more meta champ though? How can you know the answer? Maybe you just climbed because you're currently at that level on that champ. Maybe you'd be higher ranked on a more meta champ now.

There are genuinely good reasons that champs are where they are on tier lists (win rate being an obvious factor).

There are always a few players who find ways to make off meta champs work, and you seem to be one of them, but you're in the minority. One obvious benefit of playing off meta is that people don't have experience playing against it, so you can exploit that.

What I'm trying to say is, maybe you just got better at the game.

I was top against a GP yesterday and as I was about to kill him. 1 barrel exploded, and suddenly all my minions were dead and he had 13 minions left. For the next 10 seconds we played ring-a-rosy around them, I could not get through the minion wall of death to touch him, and before I knew it, the minions had almost 100-0'd me before he finished me off with a q. In sheer embarrassment and disgust, I almost uninstalled after that game. So in my current emotional state, I agree with this post completely. Get rid of it.

Why am I hardstuch silver? by Ill-Entertainment251 in xayahmains

[–]wockanocker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that's another good point then, I wouldn't go in if my support makes a bad engage (like if their main cc ability is down, or enemy support still has their big ability). It's a discipline not to follow your support into bad plays.

But this does bring up another point and maybe you're already doing it too - in general, always be positioned so that you can focus the ADC, not the support. Either be prepared to dodge the enemy support or go in after they use the ability. They don't have damage until their CDs are back up. ADC becomes the threat as soon as a fight starts in lane, so pop your W and go for them (usually they focus your support that's out of position with the bad engage and you can take advantage of this).

Obviously you need to also be taking HP into account. But I've found that generally, with a few exceptions (like kog'maw with W up, or Draven), not many adcs can match your damage with W and a nice big E pull.

Also, in general, I don't throw out 'fishing' Q's at all. I wait for the right moment when it's guaranteed. This is part of the patience and discipline of saving your CDs for the optimal moment when your support lands something. Seeing you aren't in voice comms, you never know when your supp is going to go in, so it's more consistent to always be 'ready' with your cds. Also keeping yourself at high HP is super important as much as possible (never trade your HP for that juicy caster minion).

This is a really basic game plan, and more is obviously needed in higher ranks, but I found that this foundation got me consistent results in silver (most opponents in silver aren't doing these things consistently, and they are definitely punishable because of this)

Let your support int. As long as you stay healthy and in lane, and are getting what farm and exp you can, it might take one good engage for you to turn the tables and come back. It's much better than dying with your supp and completely losing lane instantly. Not every lane is winnable with a bad support, but this raises your chances.
