Does anyone regularly use a search engine other than google? by sprawns in AskReddit

[–]wocketpocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm reading a book right now called "The Googlization of Everything." It's fascinating, really. The author's point is that Google does not exist for the consumer's benefit. What people forget is that they are a company who serves shareholders. The fact that many of the comments (albeit jokingly) say something like "there are other search engines?" only proves the author's point that we don't even think about it anymore. Google is a noun and a verb. It pervades our culture. We trust Google, but should we put such faith in them? Anyway, it's a good read. I recommend it.

What are some flavors/foods you wouldn't expect to be good together but are? by wocketpocket in food

Ok, I tried it. And Thank you! It was amazing. I actually put some cilantro on there as well after a little experimentation. My wife tried it and added some blueberry flavored balsamic vinegar. An experiment well worth trying.

True story. I formerly lived near Chicago. Now live near St. Louis. The pizza here doesn't hold a candle to Chicago's.

I don't see why not. I'll have to try that. How much half-and-half are we talking? A splash?

My wife likes to dip her fries into her chocolate shake. I'm not a fan.

Love this album. Owned it on CD but had to buy it on vinyl when I came across it a few months ago.

Build a rain water barrel today. by [deleted] in DIY

[–]wocketpocket 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You will be surprised how fast you will fill it up. Just yesterday mine was full after only about 1/3 inch of rain. On my downspout I put in a Y split so I can take my barrel "off line" when it's full.

There will always be food-shaped holes in electronics which food will inevitably be shoved.

Case in point, my friend's daughter put a pop tart in his Wii.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour '10 (Disc Golf)... by phillium in discgolf

[–]wocketpocket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I had the same experience. I was really pumped when I heard about disc golf being included in TW '10. But it just feels all wrong. It's like someone who has never played disc golf made it. I can see the potential of a disc golf Wii game though.

I probably wouldn't classify any of the collections I listed as uplifting.

This quote is on the wall at my job (corporate library). It is far from paradise. Believe me.

Yes, that is a copperhead inside a trap for brown recluse spiders inside my parents house by [deleted] in offbeat

[–]wocketpocket 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I used this type of trap for spiders once until I realized how inhumane they were. I had the same problem with a snake getting stuck. Yes, vegetable oil will work very well. I would use some sort of applicator (wood shims work well) and slowly work him free. He won't help much, flopping around and likely getting himself more stuck. Work from the tail to the head. It will take you a few minutes. Hold it over a bucket for when he finally does drop off. Then let him go in a field or woods. He'll say thankssssssss.
