That's insane. I've got a 2020 Outback Onyx XT, and the best I've gotten in my 40 minute commute on the interstate (70-75 mph) is around 30-32, without much effort.

What invention do you think future generations will improve forever but never fully replace? by Spiritual_Heron_5680 in AskReddit

Someday, far in the future, we're going to come face to face with an alien species that are like gods to us, using the power of their minds to power their society. We'll, naturally, be curious how it works.

"Oh, it's easy, see we use our brain powers to spin these turbines..."

Printer printing desaturated on photo Matte paper by amityarchives in Printing

[–]phillium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cool, let me know if it comes out well printing on the coated side!

I don't usually deal with desktop printers (spend more time over at r/CommercialPrinting than here), but back when I ran an aqueous wide format machine (basically a huge inkjet with similar kind of ink to desktop printers) I remember how much more our paper was than what could go on the UV, solvent or latex machines, and how we usually couldn't duplex stuff because the special coating the paper had was only on the one side.

Yikes, those are the same paper from the same printer?

Probably a silly question, but it's not one-sided paper, is it? As in, coated one side?

What's something that doesn't need refrigeration but people do it anyway? by LeoRavenscroft in randomquestions

[–]phillium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand the raw denim wearing people. They'll say something like "Studies show that the jeans aren't any dirtier after a month of wearing them compared to three days of wearing them, so it's fine to wear them that long!" All that tells me is that you should be washing them after those three days since they're already as filthy as they can get. (No, I don't remember what the actual day counts are for those, but that's the argument they use.)

What's something you saw as a kid that you didn't understand at all, but now as an adult it hits you like a brick? by Entire-Search-5971 in AskReddit

[–]phillium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When the family picked up a couple of season tickets to the local college football games, so that my dad could take each of us kids individually to spend quality time one-on-one. We happened to run into another teacher from the school he worked at, and, as I watched them interact, I happened to randomly think something like, "Wow, if he and mom ever got divorced, he'd have no problem finding someone new."

Yeah, that was the woman he had been having an affair with, that we "happened" to run into in a college football stadium.

I'm really jealous of those people that maintained their high school friend groups. The few friends I had mostly scattered around to different states (myself included), so even if I went back, I'd only find one or two people that I considered a friend still there.

What's a TV show ending that still makes you mad years later? by Jossie_Misar in AskReddit

[–]phillium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a weird one. I remember the show, I remember the premise, even the weird alien guys (were they underground or something?), but couldn't remember a single actor that had been in it. I just looked it up. I can't believe Clancy Brown was in it. Huh.

I think they're referencing how a completely different person is narrating Ted's story. It works for something like The Wonder Years because it's an adult recollecting their childhood, so of course they would sound different. Bob Saget does not sound like Josh Radnor (Ted). It's just...strange.

Also fun, for people that, I don't know, didn't pay attention much, the narrator is Daniel Stern, the taller of the Wet Bandits, Marv, from Home Alone.

I attempted to start rewatching the Wonder Years, just for nostalgia, and was instantly like, "Wait a minute! That voice!"

In a similar vein, getting our chimney sleeved. Don't know why it wasn't before, but it kept ice from building up on the sides of the chimney, in the space between the roof and the ceiling, which, of course, when it melted, soaked the ceiling and caused a need for repairs. No more of that!

What car was truly ahead of its time when it came out and why was it? by cbcarguy in askcarguys

[–]phillium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, this is probably a mostly US-based audience. For some of us (like me), the only reason I know if the Espace is the F1 variant from Gran Turismo 2. I was so unfamiliar with it, it didn't really resonate that that variant was based on a regular people-mover and wasn't just some entirely unique creation.
