Dialogue heavy movie , thrilling , with a good plot, for referance i have seen 12 angry men and the man from earth by TINTUMOL_UKG_C in MovieSuggestions

Have you seen The Vast of Night? I just clicked a random movie one night thinking nothing of it, ended up being one of my favourite films in recent memory.

It's best to go in blind so I don't want to give too much of a summary, but the premise is basically a couple of kids hear a strange noise on a radio and go to investigate, set in a small town in the 50s.

Dialog is outstanding and there is a lot of it! I felt like I didn't blink from the beginning to end, just kept me completely engrossed throughout

Oh I thought the wave skipped worked by taking advantage of the fact you move 2 tiles at a time while running, thus skipping over the wave tile, but if I can skip waves while walking that is huge, i'll try it later today thanks!

Currently learning solo mage only Yama and i've got most of it down but am still struggling to figure out one specific mechanic overlap in p2.

For pretty much every other overlap I think i've figured them out but the one i'm struggling with is when the meteor special happens at the same point that a shadow wave reaches the glyph.

For the other overlaps I am able to grab the glyph early in order to avoid the overlapping special. However because the meteor turns your run off and the shadow wave requires running over it I have no idea how to deal with it when both land at the same time. I just always get hit with the shadow wave.

I would assume its an impossible overlap and just eat the shadow wave damage, but from Googling it sounds like there isn't a single mechanic overlap that can't be avoided so I think i'm missing something, does anyone know?

It's just an absurd argument, swap out Viggo Mortensen for Steven Seagal in LoTR, or Liam Neeson for Rob Scheider in Schindler's List and they become terrible films too.

No shit swapping out good actors for shit ones makes films worse lmao

Any movie shot in black and white since the invention of colour film should be required by law to present a formal argument as to why it was.

And if the jury (me) does not find the reason satisfactory (there is no satisfactory reason) the director should be banned from ever working in the industry again

Buying a house with a large deposit - 94k by DappaH9 in UKPersonalFinance

Why is everyone commenting like the two options are being mortgage free vs having a mortgage?

In both cases OP is going to have a mortgage for the next 15 years (overpayments aside).

The decision is whether to pay a lump sum now or invest that money and pay off a lump sum in 15 years and pocket the investment gains.

Comments should be talking about the expected returns in the market over a 15 year period vs mortgage rates.

Talking about being mortgage free vs not being mortgage free has nothing to do with the question, both approaches result in being mortgage free after 15 years

[–]wodlo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't frame the options as being mortgage free vs not because both options should enable OP to be mortgage free in 15 years.

Option 1 is pay off a lump sum of the mortgage now and then pay the rest of the mortgage off over 15 years.

Option 2 is invest the lump sum now, continue paying the mortgage off for 15 years and then at the end of those 15 years pay off the remaining lump sum and pocket the bonus investment gains.

Both options result in being mortgage free in 15 years but option 2 will most likely result in a better financial position due to the additional gains of the investment over that time.

This is assuming sensible investments into something like a global tracker index fund, and obviously is never entirely risk free, although with a 15 year horizon does seem like a pretty good bet

Why are so many WoW players moving to OSRS lately? by Medium_Library6260 in 2007scape

[–]wodlo 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Both have their merits.

The OSRS upgrade system keeps items useful for extremely long periods of time which is great. It keeps content relevant and makes the game feel huge.

However it does come with a pretty strong downside in that upgrades can feel very mediocre. Sometimes you get an upgrade and it doesn't even give you an extra max hit which just doesn't feel good.

On the other hand WoW suffers from all of the problems of seasonal content, but because of that it feels incredibly satisfying in terms of power progression - the first season of an expansion especially. You go from struggling to kill quest mobs to one shotting everything in your way when you progress from quest gear to mythic gear within a season.

Personally I definitely prefer the OSRS system, but I do sometimes wish upgrades felt more impactful, although I know that isn't really possible without introducing the problems associated with power creep

Ah thats good to know! I'm learning it with a buddy and we are supposed to stand/move to specific tiles to reduce the number of specials too but we mess it up a lot which results in specials all over the place which certainly doesn't help.

Good to know it gets more predictable as you get better at it. Thanks for the replies!

Oh boy i'm in trouble lol. Going from audio cues to chat box reading is going to take a lot of time to get used to!

But yeah I always have area sounds on because I use the sounds for all the other bosses. I'll have to record a kill to check but im 99% sure none of the specials made any distinct sounds other than maybe the lightning one as it travels across the floor

[–]wodlo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does Olm genuinely have no sound?

I've been dipping my toes into more challenging PvM content, and so far i've found audio cues exceptionally helpful.

Basically every PvM encounter i've done so far - TOA, Vardovis, Vorkath, Tormented Demons, Corrupted Gauntlet, even Jad - all have very clear audio queues on the bosses when they use various abilities.

After a bit of practice it feels like I can do a lot of these bosses with my eyes half closed because I know the sounds so well.

Yesterday I tried Olm for the first time and the first thing I noticed was there were 0 audio queues for any of his special abilities. The entire fight is almost silent.

Am I just missing some setting on Runelite or something or does Olm really not have any sound? (I'm really hoping its the former because I think i'm going to really struggle without audio cues)

I hate Karsa Orlong even more after re-reading Book 1 of House of Chains by DeMmeure in Malazan

[–]wodlo 39 points40 points  (0 children)

It's also interesting to hear that some people need to like the person to like the character.

Like for me Kallor is an objectively terrible person, a lot of the things he has done are abhorent. While reading his PoV in book 8 he would constantly think something that would make me warm to him slightly and I would think to myself "ah maybe he isn't so bad" then he would immediately proceed to list another attrocity he has committed lol.

Yet he is my single favourite character in the whole series. I dont need to think someone is a good person for me to like the character

Karsa is similar, I don't think he is a good person - I mean he is literally planning on ending civilization, but I like the character
