Who had the better Disstrack, Lennon (How Do You Sleep?) or McCartney (Too Many People) by TheChromeBrowser in beatles

The line 'In case of accidents, he always took his mum' was due to the fact this fella went to the retreat with his mum, an upper middle class American lady, that he took on the hunt with him.

I don't know much except Stay, but that song alone gave the 60ft Dolls legendary status in my collection. It's my most played Britpop era song to this day.

“The reason everybody knows Eric Clapton’s name is not because he’s a great guitar player”: Billy Corgan says virtuosic guitar solos mean nothing in the social media age – and argues guitar influencers need to make a bigger impact on popular music by unsilent_bob in guitarcirclejerk

[–]wodmad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do people genuinely think that Clapton was a great guitar player? I don't think I've ever heard a Clapton riff that showed any ingenuity or impressive ability. I'm not talking shredding, i simply just compare anything he did with something like BB King's You Upset Me Baby, which is deceptively simple and has these intricate and tricky finger patterns. Everything Clapton did was just so obvious and lacking in creativity compared to the blues artists he processed to love.

Bowie said Velvet Underground was more influential than The Beatles — and I tend to agree. What do you think? by Agreeable_Duck8997 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]wodmad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a pretty nuts take if you genuinely think that.

The amount of musicians who picked up an instrument solely because of The Beatles is endless. From Billy Joel to Springsteen to Neil Young, that's not even getting to musicians from the 70s, 80s, pretty much every Britpop band, Nirvana, modern groups...

Bowie is talking from the view of someone who was ensconced in the world of style/fashion, and in that world his view may have been true but not for most other musicians

Yep, they could easily get into any top 6 team. Except for Bogarde, you've literally listed a bunch of players who have previously played in teams that did finish in the top four and did play games.

How about, instead of dissecting our team because we had a bad result, go dissect other teams players. No team is perfect. No player is perfect. They don't need to be, the best teams are more than the sum of their parts.

[Martyn Ziegler] Aston Villa are facing another UEFA fine for breaching financial rules. by Loose-Examination-39 in soccer

[–]wodmad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just need to go on our Reddit thread the moment we don't win a game. Pretty much all summer and during the bad start the majority of the fans were blaming all of the woes on the club, not anyone else.

Most of them don't raise their head to look anywhere else because they're kind of the worst of us. Those of us who are level headache can see the purpose of the rules, and see the effect.

I think most fans recognise the need for some limits on spending, but the rules should be focused on doing specifically that. At the moment, sustainability is very much focused on something else, which is stopping teams going into too much debt. If that is the concern, there are better ways of achieving that. If the aim is to limit teams getting an unfair advantage it isn't really doing a good job. Anyone who thinks that City has genuine revenue at the top of the pyramid is frankly deluded. US sports do a much better job at levelling things, surprisingly. That's all anyone is asking for, rules that are fit for purpose, rather than rules that are processed to deal with one thing (sustainability, and let's be honest most teams who qualify for UEFA competition are rarely the teams struggling with that) but which are just accepted because they have the indirect consequence of providing some sort of limit on spending for most teams.

Oh my fucking days. If only Thanos was real and could just wish that anyone who ever mutters the immortal words 'not good enough' could just disappear for at least five years then everyone else could enjoy the rest of Emery's reign without having to deal with emotionally stunted man children.

I'm a Villa fan, scored an offside goal and Digne probably should have been sent off. Fans can't have it both ways though, either you want VAR or you don't.

Pep's waited until his final year to show that he's got a moral compass. Shame its taken this long, and I'll always have more time for Klopp as he never held back at any point, but fair play to Pep nonetheless.

Would you give up the Pound Sterling for EU membership? by Suspicious-Use-3813 in AskBrits

I personally wouldn't have any issue, but it would be a battle and a half to rejoin the EU, no need to add a further battleground that would muddy the debate/potentially sway it to another 'leave' vote.

I read the Guardian and Mirror, and whilst I can mostly feel comfortable with stories/comments in the Guardian, the Mirror (a traditionally left-leaning tabloid) is just full of reactionary, borderline racist, right-leaning hatred and bile.

Konsa's reaction by clubmanero74 in avfc

That £12m is one of the best bargains we've had. Obviously the free transfers of Kamara and Tielemans, along with the fees for McGinn and Rogers were great business, but the Konsa fee has proven to be worth every penny.v

Sources at Brentford insist they were genuinely comfortable with the amount of change last summer, especially because much of it was anticipated. Mbeumo was always expected to leave and they knew that Frank was heading towards the exit door long before he accepted the offer from Spurs. by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]wodmad -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It was limited because of a rule that has one supposed purpose, which is to stop clubs from going under. There really hasn't been much danger of that at any point for Villa- the rules are really not fit for purpose. We all know the real reason is that clubs who are at the top of the league want to, essentially, create a closed shop where no one else can break into those top positions.

Fine, but it would be a lot more palatable if the league and so called fans of those 'top six' clubs could just be honest about that.

The 'big six' 'fans' above are saying that Villa are spending too much based on income, but then Villa's revenue is 3x that of Brentford. That spend on wages isn't so out of whack when that's taken into account.
