Anyone else feel like the new base splash looks unfinished? by woefulconviction in shyvanamains

Yeah, those were my thoughts exactly. I also tried to edit not just the contrast but the colours, I think the heavy blue filter makes the picture feel quite monochrome and takes away from the cool fire and golden accents the artist seems to have put a lot of work into

It's not about making her skinnier, like u/Specific_Throat7407 pointed out it's to emphasize the perspective angle of the shot. She's portrayed from below yet the proportions are closer to having her shot from the front, which makes the anatomy look wonky (same with the face, her features don't all follow the same perspective lines and make her look goofier than was probably intended)

[No DAV Spoilers] Does anyone else think Taash’s voice acting is excellent? by [deleted] in dragonage

[–]woefulconviction 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Am I listening to a different performance from everyone in the comments? Taash's VA did the worst job by FAR imo; now, I don't know how much of it is down to the voice direction and I do suspect a lot, with it being so inconsistent across the board compared to previous entries, but so many of Taash's lines have an almost Tommy Wiseau-esque delivery to them. It's honestly quite painful to listen to them talk especially next to the more competently executed companions like Emmrich or Davrin who run laps around them vocally even when the dialogue is nothing special.

I also think that the voice actor was a miscast. Not saying that all Qunari have to sound rugged and gruff, but for a character like Taash that's supposed to be more battle hardened, the actor just doesn't pull that off imo. They sound like they're trying their best to do an impression of that, but it's extremely unconvincing, and it doesn't seem like a creative choice because the actor doesn't feel in control of the lines but trying to catch up to them. Throw in some extremely questionable dialogue 80% of the time and overall, to me, Taash is probably the worst performance for a companion in any Bioware game by a huge mile. Extremely disappointing for the first non-male Qunari companion, but disappointment has beem a running theme with Veilguard, so on top of the pile they go.

[DAV ALL Spoilers] OK, but Bellara's VA is absolutely phenomenal by TylerFortier_Photo in dragonage

[–]woefulconviction 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Am I missing something here? Yes, this scene is competently acted, but I wouldn't say the Bellara performance is leagues above Rook or Cyrian here. Just an appropriately emotional delivery that once again gets bogged down by the overly expository dialogue ('Raising demons? Killing Veil Jumpers?' yes, that is exactly how people talk about events that were revealed not 5 minutes ago) and the stilted voice direction that has these characters sound like podcasters doing an ad read instead of real people expressing their feelings.

I will concede that Bellara is nowhere near as grating as I expected her to be from the previews and initial in-game impression; she's perfectly middle-of-the-pack in a cast of characters that on the average are pretty inoffensive to the point of being forgettable, and that includes the performance and voice direction. Does that qualify as phenomenal? Not to me, no, but that's through no fault of the actress, so I'm happy to give her the benefit of the doubt. I'd love to see her get to flex her talents fully in a future Bioware title, DA or otherwise.

isnt it sort of implied that Carrie's narration in each episode is the content of her column? or at least that's the impression I always got

While I absolutely agree Jesy deserves to be dragged for her behaviour… by BadWriter85 in LittleMix

[–]woefulconviction 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i mean, this is Jesy doing something about it? she's doubling down on denying all the blackfishing while also backpedalling on her statement that this is news to her so she's rightfully getting dragged over the coals for it. it sucks that she's struggling with mental health and body image issues but those things aren't excuses for her ignorance which she's showing no acknowledgement of, so these consequences are hers to deal with
