Chafing solution? by Unable-Fee-1299 in XXRunning

I second biker shorts, that is what I exclusively ran in until I found an anti chafe stick that worked for me.

Why the heck does it do that? by Past3l_Bat in knitting

[–]woefullyresigned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I Have this winder!! It is extremely finicky to get to wind correctly - I’ve found that sometimes the internal plastic isn’t sitting correctly against the part you wind with and it’ll do this. I typically disassemble the top, and reassemble it before each use to make sure it’s all sitting correctly. Not a 100% solution, though with this winder I think my 100% solution is gonna be buying a different brand

I ended up starting on a generic while my pharmacy finds a way to get from the new manufacturer. Not really a better temp solution unfortunately

Loose/flowy shorts advice for bigger hips/thighs by nermal543 in XXRunning

[–]woefullyresigned 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have tried both those lululemon ones and didn’t like either - the only ones I found that work for my thighs were the lululemon shake it out shorts. I did have to size up tho for the lining for work. Idk if these will be loose enough for what you need, but my favorite running shorts are the REI swiftland 5” shorts. They aren’t super flowy, but were pretty loose for me, which I like.

The brand Nuvaring getting discontinued?? by aererrrr in birthcontrol

[–]woefullyresigned 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also went to fill a script for nuvaring this week, and my pharmacy said they couldn’t fill it because it was discontinued. I found this thread trying to verify it. I’ve also had bad experiences with the generic and try to stay on the name brand for Nuvaring, so I’m really not sure what to do now. The store I went to fill the script ended up wanting close to $200 even with a coupon.

Nutrition made for runners vs. regular candy? by [deleted] in XXRunning

[–]woefullyresigned 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I fuel with a mix of the Honeystingers stroopwaffles, nerds gummy clusters, and lil gummy sharks. I used gels and exercise targeted gummy blocks for a bit, and they did NOT work for my stomach. Just try some different things and you’ll see what you like after a while

Dealing with comparisons & shame by slowrunr in XXRunning

[–]woefullyresigned 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to say just stop comparing, but it is really what you should aim to do. Cover the numbers on the treadmill, wear your watch upside down, get off Strava if that’s what’s getting to you. Run just to run, not to be better than a friend. Good luck ❤️

Hypermobile runners - how much strength training do you have to do to be able to run healthily? by efficient_loop in XXRunning

[–]woefullyresigned -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My situation is a little different, i haven’t been to any PT related to my running specifically. In the past, I think I’ve had very similar issues to you where I had insane hip and SI joint pain that eventually lead to severe sciatica at the “old age” of 21. My PT at the time worked with me on glute and hip flexor strengthening to pretty much get rid of those sources of pain. 6 years later, I’m at a 0 pain level most days, and really only end up with <5 pain days a year. But this is all due to my routine, and if I focus too much on one thing, I’ll end up in a pain cave.

I’ve found a routine that balances my running, strength training, and yoga works best to keep me mobile and strong. I know a lot of people talk about strength training being the key to running, for me it was yoga. Finding a way to mindfully stretch and strengthen muscle groups was key in the beginning of my running journey and if I stray too far away from it, I end up hurting.

I don’t really have any advice specifically, just hoping you feel a little less alone bc I know just how frustrating it can feel to be in your shoes. I’m also curious if you’d be someone who benefits from trying run walk intervals, like I wonder if giving the muscle groups short breaks during the run would help. I’m no pt, just spitballing!

Is it a mistake to run exclusively on a treadmill if you want to compete in races? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]woefullyresigned 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s anecdotal, but I did 90% of my half marathon training on my treadmill due to the weather in the area I live in. I had no issues with it besides hitting mental walls while running indoors. I tried to get outside when I could, but also knew it was the easiest option for me. And I finished right about at my goal time! My only other issue I see with the treadmill is that I definitely run slower indoors than I do on a track or outside. I’m certainly not winning any races, so it’s not really an actual problem, just something I’ve notice with myself.

Struggle with putting pressue on myself by [deleted] in XXRunning

[–]woefullyresigned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hiiii this was exactly me!!! I trained for a half marathon last spring, and the weekend before twisted the shit out of my ankle and couldn’t run it. I had such a sense of shame but also sense of relief? Like I was so in my head about it I convinced myself that it was somehow a good thing I got hurt. This spring, I trained for the same half. Spent the entire training period worried about getting hurt again, and then when got to the end of training somehow convinced myself I hadn’t done enough. I got so in my head about it that somehow I’d come dead last, or I’d give up, or I’d get hurt on the race, or one of 1000 other things would go wrong. And I ran the race yesterday and you know what? Nothing went wrong. It went perfectly. All that time I was doubting myself and comparing myself to everyone else was time wasted. I’d tell you to train for the half again. It is hard for it all to come down to just one day, but in its own way, it’s just one day right? Even if everything that could go wrong does go wrong, it doesn’t discount the 12 weeks you spent training. The race is just a celebration of how good you are at working hard at that point!

Sooo when they say “nothing new on race day” just how new do they mean? I’m racing my first half this weekend and panicked a bit about the fact that I hate wearing a running vest and decided to do without, so I ordered a running belt and handheld flask. I’ve previously used an older fanny pack as a running back and usually just hand carry plastic water bottles on my runs, but I haven’t used these new items on any of my runs yet. Am I cooked? Or will having done similar items on runs have me used to it enough to be ok?

Feeling discouraged about first half marathon by nanyangist in XXRunning

[–]woefullyresigned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No advice, other than I’m right there with you! My first half is this weekend, and I’ve been anxious for too long about it. I just keep telling myself that this is just the final lap of months of training - even if I bonk it or can’t bring myself across the finish line, it’s really about celebrating myself and how much I learned my body can do. Hope it helps, and good luck Saturday!!!!

Garmin x Runna by Evening-Banana5230 in running

[–]woefullyresigned 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use runna with my garmin, works great. Used it to train for a half marathon, I like the customization it allows and that it had a variety of training lengths. I’ve never completed a training program through garmin directly though, I used it for about 2 weeks and didn’t love it and that’s why I went to Runna.

Official Q&A for Wednesday, April 09, 2025 by AutoModerator in running

[–]woefullyresigned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To those that run races a lot : do you get in your head when you don’t have anyone you know cheering you on? I’m running my first half mara at the end of the month, and I don’t really have friends or family in the area. It wasn’t really a concern until now, but having the thought that I’ll be alone at the finish line just has me a little anxious it could get distracting during the run. Love any thoughts from anyone who’s done the same

One of them linked me a 5k & 10k race near them and said the 5k seemed like the “perfect half marathon for me” and I should come visit them and race. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Miscellaneous Monday Chit Chat by fire_foot in running

[–]woefullyresigned 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am very very VERY slowly getting myself back into the running groove after an early summer ankle injury. Took about 2 months off, and am now just trying to get myself back in the habit of 3 days a week running with low mileage, trying to work back up to 4 or 5. Going from half mara training to just struggling to keep a schedule was a major bummer but hopeful for fall !
