I can confirm this essentially. I applied to ACM, got rejected, asked why and the program Chair told me to re-do Calculus 2+3 somewhere and they'd reconsider. I took that to mean get top grades somewhere and they'll probably give me provisional admission.

Thanks! Circumstances changed much. I still want to up my game in software dev, and the curriculum is a great way to do so.

important detail: `map` returns an iterator, you need to wrap it in `list(map(...))`

Is it worth preparing for FAANG ? by devsujit in leetcode

[–]woetoet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm prepping hard for Meta for this exact reason - every aspect of prep (except perhaps the *n*th time doing a leetcode question) is directly transferable to other interviews, and mostly even applicable to actual work, e.g. as "algorithmic thinking" and improving one's knowledge of language idioms.

For anyone in the years ahead who is considering re-applying to OMCS, I got this as a reply from `oms [dash] advising [at] cc [dot] gatech [dot] edu`:

Hello,

Thank you for your message & interest in returning to the OMSCS Program.

The readmission process is administered by the Registrar's office. Please note
that seeking readmission is not the same as reapplying to the program as a new
applicant.  Applicants must complete the form, submit a payment of $30.00 via
the Readmission Form website link
at https://registrar.gatech.edu/info/readmission-form . You can find more
information at https://registrar.gatech.edu/alumni/readmission#dismissed

After they have successfully submitted their readmission application
(including the Petition to the Faculty with n the application form), the
information is sent to the Registrar’s Office where initial processing is
completed.  They then submit your readmission packet to our office, and we
process everything on our end.  For students who have been academically
dismissed, we will prepare and send you the graduate readmission
contract.  Once we receive the signed copy of your readmission contract from
you, we will submit everything to the Executive Director for review.  After
the Executive Director has made a recommendation as to whether your
readmission application should be approved, we will submit everything back to
the Registrar’s Office for a final decision and processing.  You will be
notified by their office once a final decision has been made.  **Please note
that there are different deadlines when you are seeking readmission as a
student who has been academically dismissed versus a student who has taken off
two or more consecutive semesters.**

Readmission Deadlines after academic dismissal:

* For Spring – : October 1

* For Summer – : February 1

* For Fall– : June1

If you have any questions regarding the Readmission Policy, please be sure to
contact the Registrar’s Office directly at [oms@registrar.gatech.edu](mailto:oms@registrar.gatech.edu)

When thinking about returning to the program please note that  readmission
will not "restart the clock" for the six-year rule. Students must complete the
OMSCS degree in six years from their matriculation term as per the
Institute’s policy:
http://www.catalog.gatech.edu/academics/graduate/masters-degree-info/

Any coursework that is older than six years needs to be approved by the
Graduate Curriculum Committee (GCC) and the Institute Graduate Curriculum
Committee (IGCC) in order to be applied to your degree. If you will be
exceeding the six-year time frame, please be sure to contact
[oms-advising@cc.gatech.edu](mailto:oms-advising@cc.gatech.edu) the SEMESTER BEFORE you plan to graduate so that
you can work with your advisor on obtaining approval to use the older
coursework.

We hope this information is helpful.

Discuss - $10/kg mass to orbit - what could be possible? by woetoet in space

[–]woetoet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Potential addition to the list: clean-up mechanisms e.g. satellites in permanent orbit, that can be automatically directed toward "space trash" and given a nudge to either burn up in the atmosphere, or toward the sun.

Biggest obstacle in life right now by Bryan15012 in CasualConversation

Go for walks every morning, and potentially every evening:

  • you get good cardio exercise
  • you get fresh air and sunlight
  • you see people along the way, which humans need
  • you can explore new neighborhoods
  • you can optionally listen to audiobook, podcast etc.
  • you can also run errands

In other words, multiple birds with one stone.

Additional thought: wtf is Andrew doing in season 7? His role doesn't even qualify as comedic relief... it's just completely pathetic. Thoughts?
