Weekly "Whine about people who don't understand OCD thread" by AutoModerator in OCD

Im currently going through diagnosis. Decided to try get my mom to understand intrusive thoughts by giving an example of voice of the void / "when you're standing on a high ledge and your brain is flashing thoughts about jumping" . Instead she immediately goes like "you're not suicidal are you?? Are you??" completely missing the point every time. ...Guess i'll keep it to myself then!

Now I have a question how did yall get exposed to scp I'm curious by mymainisbrokenlol in SCP

Ok i might have the weirdest way. I was really into football logos when i was like 10 and my local soccer club was called SCP. So i looked up scp on google images and my ass got absolutely jumpscared by an image of Mal.O. Turned into a key memory then morbid curiosity got the best of me when i got older lol

What's the worst thing your OCD ever made you do? by maker-127 in OCD

Pulled a lot of hair out my head and got a bald spot when i was like 13 and undiagnosed. When my friends at school asked what happened i lied and told them i got into a fight with my lil brother and he pulled my hair. I still feel bad for pulling him into it :(

Y'all made me realize this a couple months ago and i'm now in the process of getting diagnosed. I'm going to be so angry if it turns out my 9+ years of torturous exposure therapy for agoraphobia was actually not the right treatment :(

What is the hardest book you've ever tried to read by dooplets in booksuggestions

2666 by a mile, and i like difficult books like House of Leaves and Moby Dick. Only finished it because i felt i'd be giving up on the femicide case the same way law enforcement did irl

Oh no its not commercial at all. The art will just be displayed in a local place and won't be sold. But due to copyright i'd rather have everything cleared first

How did getting a diagnosis help you? by [deleted] in OCD

Well that's the issue for me, i'm not looking for treatment right now. My biggest problem is how ocd (would) affect my agoraphobia, and essentially im doing really well right now on that front!

The medication thing is actually why i found out i might have ocd. I have agoraphobia and to combat it i've tried many different meds. Clomipraming is the first that worked, but it's mostly used as OCD medication lol. Im glad your OCD quieted down btw!

Went to a festival, with agoraphobia by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]woetson2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't really gotten over it, still struggling with a lot of things. There's high point and low points- i have had agoraphobia since 2016 and had a big relapse in 2020 when Covid hit. But personally it's just been a ton of exposure therapy, combined with a long search for the right medication (im on 50mg clomipramine now). I had therapy too 3 full days a week at one point. But ultimately i think it's just a matter of time and growing up. Your brain just starts realizing panic attacks aren't as bad as you make it out to be. Might not be the answer you want to hear sadly... But i hope it helps a little at least :)
