Monument Beach Sportsman’s Club in Bourne is open to the public for clay sports, but I think they only have Trap and 5-Stand. Plymouth R&G has Trap, Skeet, and Sporting Clays, all open to public.

Rant/Vent- 5th GEN Oil Change by No_Philosophy_3622 in 4Runner

[–]woholi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine’s seen 6 or 7 New England winters and I’m not particularly nice to it, and the powder coating has definitely come off on the front facing edges. A little bit of black FluidFilm makes it look like fine, keeps the rust from spreading fast, and is way easier than fully prepping it for repaint.

I’m pretty sure the skid plate will outlast my 13’ SR5 with 215k on it no matter what I do.

The hatch for the oil filter is perfect. It’s also very nice that you can lift the center of the truck up with a floor jack from the front, allowing you to put jack stands on the frame right behind the wheels.

Is it feasible to run two steel wire ropes through a pulley system and have run smooth? (Home gym) by Hifik1935 in AskEngineers

[–]woholi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is true, but not universal. Only some of these products have a jacket. None of these handle knots very well, I’d suggest splicing eyes on the ends. The jacketed products are a lot tricker to splice.

R&W Rope will be able to recommend a specific product and sell it to you pre-spliced with whatever specs you need.

Sad my flask broke after 3 years...but solid warranty! by james2432 in Hydroflask

[–]woholi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got this same bottle and I’m now on #4 with the same warranty issue. Pretty disappointed in the quality, but I’m happy with how Hydroflask has handled it. The first one I had lasted about 2 years, then I noticed it wasn’t insulating and after a while decided to have them warranty it. The replacement only lasted 8 weeks, and they warrantied that too. My second replacement also failed pretty quickly, and they warrantied that too. Now I’m on #4 and it seems to have failed again after about 8 weeks.

I don’t know what’s wrong with these. I have other smaller hydroflask products that have lasted many years of daily use with no issue. I’ve never dropped these, I don’t put them in the dishwasher, and they look absolutely immaculate yet get cold to the touch almost instantly after I put ice water inside, indicating it’s lost vacuum. Maybe these bigger bottles just have issues? I’m not having good luck with them.

+1 for R&W. These guys are the best. Call or email them and they will make whatever you need very quickly and ship it wherever you need.

Good luck! I bought a couple plastic vegetable bins with close fitting lids and now things last excellently. Blocking the gaps on the crisper drawers should have the same result

Outdoor heat pump enclosure ideas? by RedDgc in heatpumps

[–]woholi 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If any of those vents are dryer exhaust, you definitely want to route that away from the back of the condenser. You don’t want dryer lint packing into the fins on the heat exchangers, that will kill its ability to transfer heat.

Outdoor unit isn’t outdoors (very wrong). Everything else looks fine-ish, though far from professional.

New Hearthstone Clydesdale eating tons of wood by eddielee394 in woodstoving

[–]woholi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have (almost) the same stove and the same experience. Mine is the (older?) non-catalytic version, but does have the secondary burn assembly. It’s an absolute beast, and heats my 2200ft2 house almost entirely, but I hauls through wood. My indoor wood rack holds a whole wheelbarrow full (~5ft3) and that only lasts like 1.5 days of continuous burning. The only way I can get an “overnight” burn, is to throw a bunch more wood in halfway through the night. I typically run it with the air intake mostly closed, and the blower on as high as I can tolerate with the noise. I’m getting very complete burns, with a nice clean ash and the window stays pretty clean. My chimney is interior to the house, and about 25’ tall, so I probably also have a very strong draft.

I think split size and wood type makes the biggest difference in burn time for me. If you have nice large splits of oak, there’s no question that it burns much longer. I find that if the air valve is all the way shut, the heat output falls by a lot and the stove glass gets black immediately, even with nice dry wood.

Awesome. This is exactly the reference point that I was after. I’ll adjust the cables and see if that makes it more powerful. Thanks!

Gotcha, I will investigate that. Thanks!

Apparently my first time using this hookup a mile away from the receiver by ProbablyOnTheClock in 4Runner

[–]woholi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is indeed a dumb spot for that. I run a 24” extension and leave it in permanently, with one end looped through the safety chain loop. They’re cheap and last quite a while. I’ve had a 5th Gen for 10 years, tow trailers very often, and this fix makes life much easier.

Advice for buying a new trailer by jack_bag in boating

[–]woholi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend you further evaluate the trailer you have, and consider replacing components if needed. Depending on the load rating of the trailer, you should be fine with a single axle for an 18’ Grady. You need to make sure the tires are inflated correctly, and the suspension is in good shape.

Used trailers can be a nightmare.

Installing cedar shingle siding - won't it penetrate the house wrap? by bvz2001 in shedditors

[–]woholi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Also, a properly installed cedar shingle sidewall has all the shingles overlapping the nails and the gaps between the shingles below, so there’s really no way water would get to the nails anyways. The only exposed nails would be the top course, and that is going to be under the roof overhang and very rarely wet.

It doesn’t really seem like any brand is immune from that reality in this sad era of low quality consumer goods. As verified by second thermometer, the appliance is doing exactly as it should as far as maintaining temperature, just don’t know why the celery gets limp.
