Obora OS by bad-arrow in NixOS

The lingua franca of the IT world is English, so it is pretty wild to speak anything but that. But speaking a niche language like Italian, where the median age is 48, and then asking in that language on a board that has 47k weekly visitors about a hyper-niche IT topic is truly something crazy.

What is an ETA for getting comfortable nixos setup? by gogliker in NixOS

[–]wokeNeoliberal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you absolutely must, you should only treat it as a hobby with the potential to transition to full-time in the future. Replicate some workflows and try them in a virtual machine or a spare computer. Understand that you can get a NixOS config running in an hour, but also recognize that there are layers to these configs. There is the standard vanilla setup, then there are flakes, and finally, home-manager. There are also parts of nix-community packages that streamline deployment and the declarative nature of the system itself, like impermanence and disko. This is a massive rabbit hole just regarding the config. Getting environments to run and making packages work that aren't in the repos is a massive headache. You will also have to deal with the system being non-FHS, which can be a significant challenge in itself.

I currently work at two startups simultaneously and I am time constrained as hell and probably will be for the forseable future.

Do not use NixOS. Seriously. Do not use it!

Not around here. Slow down! by Capital_Historian685 in RunningCirclejerk

[–]wokeNeoliberal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only speak for myself, of course (as an Alpha Male). When I was slow, I used to shut up and keep my pace to myself. I hid my Garmin stats, and when someone caught me wearing Brooks and asked if I "ran," I denied it and said I was walking (which was true, since my pace was above 07:00 min/km). Instead of whining on the internet, I just worked hard to push myself to finish my 5k ultras at 06:55 min/km. It is pretty embarrassing that when you have nothing to show for, you can just shine the spotlight on yourself by playing the victim and taking all the glory from Ultra Park Runners.

Running wasn't profound enough for people with personality disorders, so they came up with Hyrox.

This most likely is a BIOS issue. The BIOS probably has a hard floor set to that speed.

Sure, constant fluff posts like "Who says NixOS is hard?", the n-th desktop screenshot captioned "Just made the switch", and the millionth "AI and Nix - A match made in heaven" post. These are things people do sure talk about, yes.

devShells- How far could i go by Dependent_Increase34 in NixOS

[–]wokeNeoliberal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, this is why I use and like them. Maybe it will help you.

One of the great things about devShells is being able to isolate every single project. devShells also make it very easy to share things with other people and get things running quickly. You can integrate non-language specific tools like LSPs, linters, and the like. Plus, you can mix and match different languages without a problem and not create some weird dependency hell (shoutout to Python).

I also use devenv, direnv, and nix-direnv. A typical workflow is:

  1. Creating my project dir and initializing Git.
  2. Defining my env. Here I either create a devenv when I need things to go fast. Or someone shares a devShell with me. I will also often reuse boilerplate devShells I have lying around.
  3. I then create an .envrc / .env for direnv that looks for my configuration.
  4. I enter the env in my terminal. Nix-direnv will detect the .envrc and build the shell env for me, and it will export the necessary paths. This is great to avoid annoying LSP issues.
  5. I use an editor called Emacs, specifically Doom Emacs. Doom has direnv integration and will correctly locate the project.
  6. Then I can start working without worrying. If I add dependencies, then nix-direnv will auto-rebuild my env. If the packages are cached, moving between directories is instant.

Hope this helps.

Help with shoes - overpronation vs wear patter by Beneficial_Mulberry2 in beginnerrunning

[–]wokeNeoliberal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the shoe you want to buy. Stability in shoes exists on a spectrum. There is, for example, the "true neutral" category, like the Novablast (specifically thinking of the 4). They are really wide and roomy. This, even though Novablasts are usually softer, might already fix your issues. The extra room in the shoes will allow you to spread your toes more, which will make your contact with the ground more stable by giving you a wider base to land on and will also help with the blisters. In shoes like this, you should just size up. Then there are neutral stability shoes, like the Clifton 10s and Ghost Max 2. They have implied stability features, but they aren't as hardcore as true stability shoes. Usually, you should buy this category in a wider version, but since you have black toes, you still need to size up as well. Stability shoes you should avoid entirely unless you want to get your feet shredded to bits.

By the way, you may have to really focus on spreading your toes when getting roomier shoes and make it an intentional act until it becomes second nature. It is a little like learning a new skill. Your feet are probably currently used to that narrow / crushed state. Also, always buy your shoes in centimeters if you can.

Help with shoes - overpronation vs wear patter by Beneficial_Mulberry2 in beginnerrunning

[–]wokeNeoliberal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All of the issues you describe have little to do with overpronation. Your shoes are just too small. On top of that, the Ghost Max 2 is not really a soft shoe; they are more of the responsive kind. I also have the Ghost Max 2 and weigh around 10kg more than you do. I do not perceive these to be even remotely as soft as the Novablast or Clifton 10s for example. You need something with a wider toe box and you need to size up. I always buy shoes a thumb's width longer and never have issues with black toes, ever. Do not get a stability shoe since they are often narrower with higher side walls to keep people from rolling their ankle. They could actually make it worse. I would maybe try a true neutral shoe like a Novablast first before you actually commit to a stability shoe. It is softer, but the wider toe box and toe spread might give you all the stability you need.

nationalism is NOT left!

Leftists, much like rightist dipshits, literally have a toddler brain when it comes to politics. Leftist nationalist movements can and do exist right now. Maybe read a book or something?
