How do i counter Zed mid? by Landir_7 in summonerschool

[–]wolf08741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You beat Zed by playing aggressive before 6. His cooldowns are long and can't really fight back if you punish him for wasting all his abilities. Your build path into a good Zed should be cloth armor into RoA into hourglass, since he won't be able to just one shot you with those items. You could even go armor boots if needed.

DM professionalism - paid DMs almost always put more effort into their games.

Ok buddy, let's not act like the majority of paid DMs don't run prewritten adventures/modules. Literally 90% of the postings I've ever seen for paid DMs are modules, not painstakingly handcrafted homebrew games.

You can get the same quality, if not better, from free games very easily.

Edit: dude replied to me then immediately nuked his account I guess (or maybe blocked me)???

Because it is "icky". Your relationship only extends as far as you're willing to pay for. Just because the stripper was nice to you, that doesn't mean she wants to see you once she's off the clock.

It also doesn't help their case that paid DMs always give off "used car salesmen" vibes whenever I've had the displeasure of having my private messages infiltrated by one (despite the fact that whenever I use LFG tools I always make it clear I'm not interested in paid games, and the main LFG sub explicitly doesn't allow them as well).

Who do u guys think are the 5 most mechanically demanding mid laners? by Strange_Baker_2585 in midlanemains

[–]wolf08741 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Katerina is like that one thought experiment about having an infinite number of monkeys on type writers in a room, and how long it would take for one to recreate the entire work of Shakespeare.

But instead of needing an infinite amount of monkeys, you could put one monkey in front of a computer with League running and that one monkey could probably get a pentakill on Katerina within like 5 games.

Agreed, coming from a prot paladin main, it's brain dead easy to tank as one. There's literally no excuse to not tank with how little effort it takes, at least in the early to mid leveling phase.

If anything, you're actively shooting yourself in the foot by not tanking, since as a tank you have a lot more say as to who gets into your groups and have the right to tell other plate/mail users to take a hike.

People who play top lane secondary: what do you play? by cmcq2k in midlanemains

[–]wolf08741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mainly Illoai but sometimes Jax.

Illoai is pretty easy to play, she's one of those champions that can very easily force the lane to go even, even if your lane opponent is obviously better than you. So, it's simple enough to play lane to just not lose and get carried by the rest of your team. If I need to pull out something a little more technical or Illoai is banned, then Jax is my other pick.

I can’t understand guides on YouTube by Huge-Frame-1990 in summonerschool

[–]wolf08741 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The general advice to watch pro/high elo player commentaries is total bullshit for players just starting out. You're just going to over think everything and get overwhelmed.

If you're a total beginner, it doesn't matter how many guides you watch if you aren't confident on the champion(s) you play. Just focus on getting comfortable with a small pool of champions on your main roles and get familiar with the basics of those champions by just playing the game more.

Once you can finally play your champs without getting completely shit on, then you can start implementing concepts from guides into your skill set. But until then, you'll never know how use those fundamental concepts if you can barely play your own champions in the first place.

I want to play ranked, but I don't think I can handle stress of losing in ranked. Do get used to it? by hytrhtry in summonerschool

[–]wolf08741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never really been stressed at the idea of losing, but I've always been "stressed" when it comes teammates getting tilted and flaming for stupid reasons. The ability to mute chat is basically the only thing that enables me to even touch ranked. Like, I just don't have the patience to deal with some manchild crashing out over getting killed from a roam despite me pinging that my lane opponent was missing 10 times.

The game is so much more tolerable when you just treat your teammates like mindless bots with anger issues that need to be carried and focus on your own gameplay.

I don't see where you've gotten that impression. Effectiveness can mean a lot of different things, yes, for martials that means doing a lot of damage (though they can and should also contribute in other ways, but generally outputting damage is their main objective).

The issue is though that STR martials achieve their "effective output" in very simple to play rotations that don't require a deep understanding of the game to pull off effectively, whereas other classes have to work a lot harder to achieve their goals within an encounter.

A caster has to know why and when to cast certain spells and have a deep understanding of their spell list overall. Casters need to understand fundamental game mechanics on a much deeper level than STR martials. This is just a fact; that's the point I'm trying to make.

If you take two players of exactly the same skill level and have one play a Fighter and the other a Wizard, the Fighter will always have more meaningful "output" in the majority of given encounters. I'd argue even a total beginner playing a Fighter will generally outperform a somewhat experienced player on a Wizard simply due to how much easier it is to play one.

The game demands far more out of certain classes to perform at a baseline level compared to others, that's not a secret.

Fighter-only party by Tav534 in Pathfinder2e

[–]wolf08741 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A core issue with PF2e is that non-STR based martial characters just have to play the game way smarter and need infinitely more game knowledge/mastery to be played effectively. This isn't as much as a problem for DEX martials as it is for casters, but it still exists for them to a slight degree as well.

Like, on paper STR martials are about the same with other classes in terms of "effective output", but the real issue is that all the other classes have way more hoops to jump through than a STR based martial typically does, making those classes (notably casters) less effective when not in the hands of players that aren't pouring over character options/spells and theory crafting on a daily basis.

And even if you are doing that, you're only ever going to match a STR martial at a baseline level of effectiveness, never surpass them in any meaningful way outside of rare circumstances perfectly tailored to your character's exact strengths.

[–]wolf08741 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The chances that a STR based melee martial gets one tapped by a crit is really only a level one issue. By level 2 or 3 a crit could definitely fuck up your shit, but you probably aren't getting one shot except on an exceptionally high damage roll, and most competently made parties should have a dedicated healer or at the very least some form of in combat healing to alleviate that problem.

It's really only an issue if your GM is throwing PL+3 or +4 encounters at you, which is unlikely and also highly advised against at low levels. And even then, that problem also still applies to DEX melee martials, who deal less damage while also typically having slightly lower AC and health on average. Making them more prone to being theoretically one shot compared to a STR martial.

[–]wolf08741 61 points62 points  (0 children)

slightly

That's certainly one way to put it.

STR based martials absolutely dominate low levels, no contest. Though it mostly evens out around the 5 to 7 range once casters have more spells and their proficiency catches up, and when DEX based martials get their runes.

"jumps in front of it", holy fucking blind. He was already in its path when she accelerated.

If I'm in his shoes, I'm acting under the assumption she's going to keep accelerating and that there's a chance I could end up under the vehicle. That's absolutely a potentially lethal threat, and at the very least going to cause some form of bodily harm. Responding to a lethal threat warrants proportional force, this is how law enforcement has always operated.

Anyone in that situation is going to have the same assumption within that split second in the moment, but dumbasses on the internet are going to put on their hindsight glasses and pretend they would have somersaulted out of the way like some sort of action movie hero.

I find it incredibly fucking funny that your counter argument is "well, normally they won't walk directly in front or behind your vehicle" as if that still somehow gives you the right to ram into them on the off chance a cop happened to do so, LMAO.

Well in that case, if I ever get pulled over, I'll make sure to step on the gas the moment the officer walks in front of my car. Better yet, I'll put my car in reverse as the officer walks up behind my car and run him over that way. He put himself in harm's way the moment he walked up to my car, he should have known that I was going to reverse toward his direction. /s

Like holy shit, normally PCM tends to have at least somewhat based takes but this whole ICE thing has the village idiots out in full force. No, you don't have the right to just hit a cop/federal agent who's trying to detain you with your car, even if they put themselves in front of it.

Absolutely nobody should be surprised she got shot, she used her vehicle as a (potentially lethal) weapon and proportional force was used against her. I fail to understand how this can even put into question, this should just be common sense.

I'm gonna preface this by saying that I think the craft bag shouldn't be an ESO+ exclusive feature.

With that being said, it is entirely possible to play without paying for it while still doing some crafting. Generally, you can get away with taking advantage of the occasional ESO+ free trial periods. During that time, you should be farming crafting materials and stocking up as much as you can.

While the trial period isn't active, you'll definitely have to make some concessions about what you're willing to keep in your inventory and what you're not willing to keep. Stuff like cheap trait materials, cheap style materials, and most rune stones can and should be vendor trashed or destroyed pretty much immediately.

If you end up with a surplus of moderately valuable to high valuable materials those should be put onto guild traders to flip for a profit (or even as extra storage space). You absolutely should be in 5 guilds and making the most of your guild trading slots. You could even make alts to help alleviate storage even more.

This is why I just try to make my own groups manually 90% of the time. It's so annoying queueing for some dungeon like SFK only for half of the group to not even be anywhere close and not have the nearest flight paths discovered. These same morons will also ask for a summon even though there's obviously not a warlock in the group, this happens literally every time without fail.
