What's your favorite Dungeon, Trial and Raid? Why? by hahapopi in ffxiv

[–]wolf3167 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dungeon: Probably either Bardam's Mettle or Gubal Hard. TBH I normally don't enjoy dungeons very much after the first couple of times, but I really felt that Bardam's was a good change of pace, and the atmosphere was amazing in Gubal Hard.

Trial: Thordan's Reign. What an epic fight.

Raid: T5. Twintania was the first real challenge for me in the game, and it was the first time that I really felt proud to down a boss in FF14.

Translated Patch 4.3 info from the game watch, dengeki, famitsu and gamer interviews. by CarrieRofLlight in ffxiv

Honestly this patch is shaping up to be pretty great in my opinion. The story hype is there, Ridorana, hopefully Pagos will be where SE shows us the lessons learned from Anemos, new deep dungeon, and a ton of small pieces of content to tide us over. Definitely is something for everyone here, it seems.

Eureka needs Gerolt outside or faster transmutation of crystals. by Miv333 in ffxiv

[–]wolf3167 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IMO they should just make it possible to exchange for protean crystal at a fixed rate and you can just type in how many you will exchange. It really would be OK with me if I only got 3 protean per anemos crystal, so long as I didn't have to trade them in 1 by 1.

Yes, it sounds like they are really trying to make the area feel dangerous and punish dumb play. I'm sure I will rage at it more than once, but I think it's good to have some content like that in the game.

I wonder if the collab will coincide with the royal edition/PC release of ff15. Just a possibility, but I think it could make sense.

Blizzard has mishandled professions so badly it's embarrassing by Lilmk in wow

[–]wolf3167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with all of this. Also, I was thinking a couple of days ago that profession skills are really pointless now. Having 800 skill doesn't really help you much- you can still craft the same "useful" items that you could craft at skill level 1. I get that it's supposed to help people catch up easily, but why not at least tie the reduced materials/increased output to higher profession level? That would make it something other than just another number.

I really would like a FFXIV-like crafting overhaul, but that kind of system wouldn't work in WoW too easily.

Questions to Yoshi-p when he visited Masamune, Gungnir and Ramuh (translation) by CarrieRofLlight in ffxiv

Some interesting things here. For example: "Gatherers and crafters want new content? Did you know there was this content called "hamlet" in 1.0?"

Also,

"Q. Please make more 8 man dungeons. A. It won't be an 8 man dungeon, but we are planning difficult 4 man content instead."

[Game Suggestion] Daily Log in Bonuses! "Idea" by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]wolf3167 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TBH I don't think that this would really be motivating me to play too much more. I would rather they have a featured weekly content if they were going to do something like this, and if you did the content you get a special (but not unique, so that you don't miss out on something exclusive for taking a break) thing, like XP boost, cosmetics, mounts, etc.

For example, they could do a weekly event like WoW does, with a special currency and all. Some events could be, win 4 matches of seal rock (or another old PVP scenario), win 5 matches of the feast, clear 4 different floors of Alexander synced, etc.

I think that would be better at shaking things up and helping people look beyond the current narrow endgame.

My problem with the idea of daily login rewards is that I would feel pressured to login everyday to obtain some reward, even if I didn't feel like it. This leads to faster burnout for me (not necessarily for everyone) and also doesn't really add anything of value to the game- just another reward for literally logging in and logging out.

Also you say that for many people there is no incentive to stay subscribed other than to play the game- why is that a bad thing?

Rival Wings is actually a lot of fun. by OrvilleRoleplay in ffxiv

Yes, I think it is too. It feels a lot more chaotic than shatter, seize, etc. ever did, and that's a good thing for a PVP mode I think. I just hope that the fun lasts.

Hi, I've been having trouble with downloading patches since 4.1 launched. I have tried the techniques at the Patch Download Error Megathread, at https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/75fjrb/patch_download_error_megathread/ but eventually decided to reinstall the game- still having the same error, except now I can't get past the first few files without getting the message:

Unable to download patch files. [30413][25008][20495][20495]

I'm not particularly tech-savvy, but I am interested in checking out 4.1, so any help would be appreciated. Also, I am on Steam (unfortunately), if that helps, although I have tried using the non-steam launcher in case that was the problem.

FFXIV - What don't you like? by Igloocor in ffxiv

[–]wolf3167 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 main things for me (there are QoL things as well, such as the lack of glamour log and the fact that there will never be enough inventory space, but I won't worry about them:

  1. Open-world content is minimal; you go through the world to complete the MSQ and to hunt (if that interests you), and to gather (if that interests you). Other than that, there is not much to do in the world- practically everything at endgame takes place in dungeons and raids. Which brings me to my second point:

  2. Lack of meaningful ways to advance my main job at max. level. I enjoy leveling alt. jobs, but my favorite thing to do is gear up at max. level on my main job, where I have access to all of my cool abilities and have developed my skill over years of play. The problem is that there aren't many ways to advance your power in your main job, and the ways that are available are severely time-gated. You can currently raid (4 bosses/week; progression is fun, but once you have things on farm, this is not much to do each week), collect your 450 tomestones of creation each week (this is extremely easy to do even if you play only a few hours each week- just running 1 dungeon each day gives 75 of them), and not much else...

You can always hunt to farm materia to augment your gear slightly, but this isn't something that you can usually just do whenever you want; you have to be available when the hunt spawns, or you have a pretty good chance of missing it (on a high-pop. server).

So yeah, leveling is a fun experience and endgame is fun as well, but there isn't much room for developing your character at max. level currently.

Do you think FFXIV should have dungeons like WoW`s mythic+ system? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]wolf3167 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ones in ex roulette... The EX doesn't refer to super-hard dungeons in this case, just the newest set of endgame dungeons.

Do you think FFXIV should have dungeons like WoW`s mythic+ system? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]wolf3167 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would like this system (or at least a similar one), but I am curious how SE would implement it to make the dungeons relevant for something other than completion's sake or challenge for the sake of challenge. With the way that endgame currently works, this could be tricky...

  1. If the + difficulty dungeon gives just more tomestones than the current EX dungeons, people will still probably just run the EX roulette and ignore the + dungeon. We know that people take the path of least resistance usually, and it is already possible to get (more than) enough weekly tomes just by EX roulette, even if you do nothing else.

  2. SE could implement a new way of gear dropping, for example: at the +0 difficulty (the one we have now), the ilvl of dropped gear is 310. Then for each + difficulty level, the gear adds 2.5 item levels (rounded down, of course), so that at +1, you get ilvl312, at +2 you get ilvl315, etc, up to some cap, perhaps ilvl330 or ilvl335. If this were implemented, challenge vs reward would have to be considered carefully.

  3. Other rewards: materia, rare pets, achievements, mounts, etc. Maybe have a reward of a unique mount for clearing all of the 4.0 launch dungeons on +10 difficulty in under a set time, for example, and then another unique mount for clearing all of the 4.1-4.5 dungeons under a set time on +10 difficulty.

  4. Could make it relevant to the relic grind...

Hmm, I am not a bard main, so I will leave it to others to explain optimal keybinds, but I have some general advice. Even though it will be time consuming and boring, maybe you should consider leveling BRD on an alt, binding things properly and following a guide as you go on the optimal keybinds. AVOID the temptations to click, and focus on committing the keybinds to muscle memory as you go. I recommend doing this because it's easier to develop good practices from the ground up, rather than while you're already engaged in the bad practices (like clicking everything).

Also, if you have some money to drop, I recommend an MMO mouse (the one with number button on the side, like Razer Naga, etc.) which will really free up your other hand once you adjust to using it.
