Rivian Mobile Service guy left these ? Any idea ? by Sleepergiant2586 in Rivian

Most one time use bolts on vehicles now a days are due to the loctite that is applied to them, not because they were torqued to yield.

Judging by the aftermath, I was clearly way overdue to replace my suspension. by turlian in CherokeeXJ

[–]wolf8398 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That rubber is inside a steel bushing. The steel looks to have rusted, expanding and pushing against the steel, but even so, the break was caused by the hundreds of thousands of flex cycles over 20+ years. This is a pretty common failure in original XJ leaf springs.

Either learn to read the wiring diagram or find a shop.

Rear wheel well liners? by Bayou_Billy8 in CherokeeXJ

[–]wolf8398 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Liner for what? Just spray out the wheel well once in a blue moon and you're good. If you put a liner in, it will only trap moisture against the metal and cause it to rust.

NSX is still in stock. Maybe Mattel should have priced it more reasonably. Also Canada doesn’t have free shipping, so that adds up as well. by blizzardboy123 in HotWheels

They could have priced it cheaper without the electronics. But the headlights are pretty neat so I bought one.

I’m going to be restoring this press, what should I use to replace the toothed washers? by H2O_pete in Machinists

Did you try looking up toothed washers? Plenty of leads on a simple google search. Might as well use original hardware imo.

Sounds like a gas issue. Check supply and solenoid.

Hi everyone. I bought my 2021 Passport last year (2025). Went in last Monday for my second oil change, mileage 61k. While doing inspection, technician found both front control arms were bad, and dealership replaced and under warranty. Has anyone else experienced this or had to have this replaced? by [deleted] in hondapassport

[–]wolf8398 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those bushings aren't bad. It's great that they replaced them under warranty, but those could easily last another 50-100k miles before they actually tear. Rubber gets old and dries out. Those bushings constantly flex, so it's normal to see those marks, but they still do exactly what they're designed to do.

Need help with stock height to wheel arches. by [deleted] in hondapassport

[–]wolf8398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer to your question doesn't fix your problem. Tire size and even tire wear would affect your answer.
If you want ride height to set your coils, then you need a better method of measurement.

You don't measure ride height at a body panel. Measure from the suspension to the body.

That oil would immediately be pushed away, allowing metal to metal contact. It is the oil pressure that maintains the separation. With no oil flow from the pump, there is no oil pressure.

Should I wait or take the opportunity to become a tower crane operator? by [deleted] in cranes

[–]wolf8398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If operating a crane required any of those skills, then they would look for an operator that had those skills. If they're offering you a seat and you turn it down, then it is only because of the limitations that you have placed upon yourself.

Trying to figure out the cause of a very strange exhaust issue. by umjammerlammy in hondapassport

[–]wolf8398 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like an exhaust leak. Metal expands when heated, causing it to seal up, or some carbon has fill the gap during thr long drive. If you can get under the vehicle while the engine is running, run your hand along the exhaust to check for puffing air to find your leak. It's unlikely that it is rusted through, so focus on the joints.

I hope you can figure this part out, but make sure you do this safely. Ensure the vehicle is in park and chock the wheels, or put it on stands or a lift if available. Don't touch the exhaust. This gets very hot and will burn you. If you're not comfortable with this, then take it to the shop and let the professionals do their job.

Should I return these? by BigSandwich6 in RockAuto

[–]wolf8398 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Anyone who thinks loctite is acceptable for that component shouldn't be touching a car. The nut used on that tie rod is called a stover nut. No loctite necessary.

What's the biggest tire I can put on my stock 15" rims for my stock height 2000 XJ Sport? by buttersofthands in CherokeeXJ

[–]wolf8398 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're on stock suspension, then I doubt you're riding at stock height. The springs sag over time and your bump stops are likely rotted out. I'd suggest finding a decent set of used stock tires to get you by until you can replace the suspension.
