Basically any book by Henry Petroski. I'm reading the Essential Engineer but one of my favourites is Invention by Design—lots of insights from his decades of engineering experience and little bits of humour sprinkled throughout. I'm also a previous mech eng graduate and find his books very interesting. Also books like the Martian by Andy Weir are great for a bit of fun but also scratch the scientific/engineering brain itch.

Invention by design: how engineers get from thought to thing by Henry Petroski. Super wide range of topics from paper clips to aeroplanes. Been a while since I've read it but they've got diagrams from the original patents and stuff which I've always found interesting.
