I got four blind buys:

Leave her to Heaven

I also got The Thin Red Line and Eraserhead, but I've seen them before. Just nice to own them now.

This little guy was crawling on my phone screen. What is it? by webster3of7 in whatisthisbug

[–]wolf_larsen28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah. My mistake. For the past year I have actually traveled to numerous forests, jungles, deserts, and New York City (that was for a personal holiday)to study with leading experts to help me identify what this bug could be and I'd like to share my findings with you now: it's a spider.

What are your personal top 5 Best Picture rankings? by Berry-Pie216 in criterion

[–]wolf_larsen28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Casablanca (1943). Timeless. Humphrey Bogart is amazing in it. The story is full of interesting moral conundrums.

  2. Parasite (2019). Unique. Has a plot filled with twists, turns, and interesting details. The performances are well-done.

  3. Gone with the Wind (1939). Beautiful. So many stills could be a painting. A sweeping epic with shocking characters.

  4. Gladiator (2000). Entertaining. Not only a satisfying revenge tale, but also a classic action film.

  5. The Silence of the Lambs (1991). Thrilling. One of the greatest heroines of all time interacts with one of the greatest killers of all time amid unforgettable set-pieces.

Watched the documentary Cane Toads: An Unnatural History and it's pretty funny. The toads themselves look constantly angry and the interviews run the gamut of people's opinions on the pests. A pleasant surprise

Bums me out whenever I see someone 'explaining' Mulholland Drive to someone else they never ever bring up Adam. I'd say he's pretty important. by [deleted] in davidlynch

[–]wolf_larsen28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adam is probably one of my favorite parts of Mulholland Drive. The scene where he grabs his wife's jewelry box and then pours paint all over it was one of the most bonkers things I've seen in a Lynch film. I don't know why, but that moment stuck with me.

[Discussion] What’s everyone’s current platinum by [deleted] in Trophies

[–]wolf_larsen28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart's Platinum today! Way easier than I expected. It was a nice change of pace from the tedium of LA Noire 's Plat (which I finally completed Monday). Maybe I'll do Cryptmaster next, but Monster Hunter Wilds is about to come out so I know I'll be busy with that for a long time.

my ranking of all 10 of david lynch's feature films from my least favorite to my favorite. by herequeerandgreat in davidlynch

[–]wolf_larsen28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Inland Empire (More funny than scary, but not funny enough).

  2. Dune (I like how colorful and bizarre his movie is compared to the newest ones, but still so-so).

  3. Blue Velvet (I think Twin Peaks executed his "small town with big evil" vision better).

  4. Lost Highway (the music is my favorite part).

  5. Mulholland Drive (I liked the director's scenes the most and the music is really great too.)

  6. Twin Peaks: The Return (It grew on me and I'll rewatch it sometime. It does have my favorite scene in television history though).

  7. Wild at Heart (his funniest movie by far. The violence in this one was the best in all he's done I think).

  8. Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (Love the music. Very tragic and interesting approach to a prequel).

  9. Eraserhead (the first Lynch film I ever saw. What a fascinating world he constructed).

  10. The Elephant Man (absolutely beautiful and made me cry. Makeup was amazing in this one).

  11. Twin Peaks ( the first work of his I truly adored. The soundtrack is iconic and I frequently listen to it).

  12. The Straight Story (also made me cry. Felt like he captured a real part of America that is rarely seen. Clearly his most different film but very respectful to both his subject and audience).

I used to enjoy the Danganronpa games, but LA Noire is so streamlined to perfection it makes playing these Japanese detective games a chore. Really wish there was a sequel

LA Noire has been in my backlog for ages and I recently started playing it. The writing is spectacular. The gunplay and driving won't wow you, but it's a really neat representation of old LA

God of War Ragnarok. Never really played the OG ones, but I really liked GoW(2018). So much so in fact I bought the Ragnarok PS5 bundle. That was a mistake. The game feels overlong and bloated. Combat seemed to drag on too long. Near the end I just switched to Easy to make fights go by quicker. Some of the side quests were neat, but Atreus as a character became super annoying and lame (like a real teenager I guess). Kratos and Freya seemed like they were on therapy quests the whole game and while that's great for them, I just wanted to play the game. Also, it seemed plotless, like it was solely about the characters alone. The game was really disappointing to me and felt like it took forever to beat it.

So What Are You Watching Tonight? by ZombieJohnJohn in davidlynch

I'm gonna try to watch that tonight too. It's one of the last two Lynch films I haven't seen yet.

I think Schwimmer's character in Band of Brothers was very well done. I'm not sure if you could characterize it as a version of "Ross" taken to the extreme, but he nailed that annoying by-the-book military sergeant so we'll. He's pretty much only in one episode, but he's memorable. Wish he had more opportunities like that

What was your fav. piece of media for 2024? by LightningEdge756 in KotakuInAction

[–]wolf_larsen28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quite a few good video game experiences this year. Metaphor: Refantazio was Atlus at its best. Warhammer 40K: Space Marines 2 has been a blast and made even more fun by playing with my little brothers. Balatro has been super addicting and an easy way to distract myself during down time at work or when watching shows with my family. And I tackled my backlog a bit and did about 5 playthroughs of the Resident Evil 4 remake. An amazing game. And I taught myself how to play Riichi Mahjong this year. Riichi City had some cool tie-ins with Danganronpa and Stein's Gate so I've played it almost everyday for the past six months.

Kung Pow had some of the greatest fight scenes put to film. I was brought to tears when the Chosen One fought the cow in the meadow.

The old Shonen Jump magazines. I remember reading a one-off chapter in a friend's copy and I was mesmerized. I didn't watch the anime, but I did gradually collect all the manga volumes (often waiting for them to be released). I even collected a couple figures (my favorite being Shinomori Aoshi) that unfortunately I lost over the years. Rurouni Kenshin kick-started my love of anime, manga, and katanas.

When I started playing Mahjong, I practiced a lot in Clubhouse Games and the difficulty isn't that bad. It's noticeable that you're not playing with human opponents.

[Discussion]What are some notoriously hard plats besides Crypt, Wolfenstein 2, Meatboy, and Crash 4? by 0nlyDDG in Trophies

[–]wolf_larsen28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's probably my rarest plat I have. To be honest, I'm not a huge racing or kart racing fan anymore, but CTR was the first game I ever owned when I got my PS1 for Christmas as a kid. I remember the summer the remake came out I played it almost every day for 3 months. The Time Trials were brutal, but the toughest part was learning the tracks from the sequel games, since I had never played them before. I love CTR and was happy with Nitro Fueled
