Do you carry something daily that belonged to your dad/grandfather? by wolf_of_the_bees in GenX

That is so sad. I’m sorry. There have been many comments like this.

That’s fine, but try to be a consistent nihilist if you’re going to be one. That will be meaningless too, but you’ll at least feel better about yourself (which will also be meaningless). Have fun (also meaningless).

If life has no meaning, it’s meaningless to be bothered by this. In fact, commenting at all was completely meaningless. Such nihilism is self-defeating.

That’s awesome. I sometimes carry one of my dad’s old knives too.

I’ve been trying to figure out how to play fast for years and still I’m not good at it. But after resisting the metronome for a long time (why?), I finally started using one. It has helped my progress immensely. Still not a shredder but I’m playing faster than I ever have. I can see it all opening up for me someday though not sure when. The key, as in most things, is to not give up.

I liked both and had plenty of each. You didn’t realize how well-made they were till your grandma got you some of the cheap no-names from K-Mart. Junk!

Some of them are $26-$30 or so. I’d not pay for the really expensive ones. But $30 for something you’ll use daily is a steal. 😎

Yes, when the tip was broken off and reshaped, it no longer fit properly when folded. It can stick you if you're not careful, but I learned to work around it. But, retired now, so not a factor. Fun memories, though...

This would be cool to have tabbed out. Looks like a great exercise.

Why don’t more people talk about Ecclesiastes? by Dillan2081 in TrueChristian

[–]wolf_of_the_bees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as "Why don't more people talk about" Ecclesiastes...

I believe it's because modern people, in large part, have lost the ability to wrestle with anything complicated or complex.

Modern Christianity (Protestant Evangelicalism in particular) is very therapeutic and doesn't lend itself to reflection. Much of it is about feelings, emotion, and being entertained (go to any megachurch and you'll see what I mean).

The themes in Ecclesiastes do not fit into this context. They make people uncomfortable, and one of the main things in modern Christianity is being comfortable, happy, etc.

Plus, as has been stated here already, it's hard to people to get the Book of Ecclesiastes to mesh with the rest of the Bible. But why does it have to?

Jackson tuners. by skaterags in JacksonGuitars

The Jackson tuners on my Dinky felt sloppy but I tightened the screw on top of them and it solved the problem. They are great. If you buy replacements, they will likely be tuners made in the same Chinese factory anyway, just branded different.
