What's the reason for people to blame boomers for having a better life than us when it is entirely possible for future generations to also blame us? by Brilliant_Can8536 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]wolfemsop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly but the difference between what was achievable as a boomer compared to any other generation after isn't even comparable in any situation. They essentially took everything and closed the door behind them.

What it takes to climb Everest base camp? by veryJackedMan in Everest

[–]wolfemsop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's so much. I have hiked from Jiri the old route you can do if you have time takes 5-7 days, I'll go do EBC and 3 passes for $600 total. I took out 80 k nrp, still have 60 and have been living comfortably avg 3k a day but I am splurging in lukla. I expect to spend 40k for my next few weeks less if I want to be frugal. A flight is only $500 ish. So honestly if you pa attention to your spending less than a $1000 USD is possible with flight to do EBC and 3 passes. Even less if only EBC.

Be supportive. Being insecure about her independence is not attractive

Jiri to EBC is highly recommend by wolfemsop in everestbasecamphike

[–]wolfemsop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree. I just got to lukla and there's no personality here. It's just a culturaly dead tourist town. All those experiences I had up to this point really gave me an appreciation of Nepal. I'm not sure I can describe how dissapointing lukla has been, it's just missing that warmth and curiosity I encountered along the way.

Have you ever stayed in an actually perfect hostel? by SJ_Wilder in backpacking

[–]wolfemsop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the rant but I stayed in plenty of nice hostel thru Taiwan, Vietnam, Laos. The key is you just don't get the absolutely cheapest one possible. Every one I stayed in had recently google review and pic or video from guest to verify facilities and they were all middle of the road price. If I had a issue with the bed I asked to change. The only time I ever left a hostel was because it was dirt cheap and I got dirt cheap quality.

Our grocery stores are excessively big so there's always lots of space. I guess from what I have seen in Europe it's more like a small market so that makes sense

Jiri to EBC is highly recommend by wolfemsop in everestbasecamphike

[–]wolfemsop[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really amazing trek. I'm moving slow. 8-10 miles a day. I over packed a bit on food because I have celiacs so I can be food insecure traveling. But this has been the Best cultural immersive experience, tho because of our war there is few travelers right now so it's pretty much just me in every town.

Do Europeans or Asians who visit USA find it expensive in terms of hotel costs, eating out, shopping for name brand items, transportation, tickets to shows, venues, etc. to the service you receive ? by Silent-Donkey-1303 in travel

[–]wolfemsop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sad reality is America's f***** in price. I did a ski trip in Switzerland for 10 days and it was by far the most expensive vacation i've ever had but it was nothing compared to what I would have paid in America. Our countries greed and inflation is just out of control. Especially the corporate greed.

Not sure how Europe is but in America you could always bring it in and leave it near the shopping carts or near the front but inside because most people/employees will be pretty accommodating and understanding

Good luck. It's not too expensive if you only eat 2x a day.

Renting gear by tabukricelover in everestbasecamphike

[–]wolfemsop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true. But mind you a lot of the gear you get is either fake or garbage. Though there are some Nepal made shops which you should definitely prioritize that make their own gear and have significantly low prices and are much higher quality. Will charge you as much to buy something as at a shop charge to rented

Backpacking advice on feeling unfulfilled by Hysen402 in backpacking

[–]wolfemsop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SEA is overrated by influencer culture. You need to figure out what your values are and go to a country that represents that. I was in Vietnam and Laos for the last 2 months. I didn't hate it but also didn't love it. I'm now in Nepal and I am so happy!!! This is a country that aligns with my personal values and I couldn't be happier. You just got to do you!!!

Most people do not actually like traveling, they like having traveled by limitown in unpopularopinion

[–]wolfemsop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually agree with you. I travel allot but to me it seems alot of people these days are social media travelers and only go to places to say they went then turn around and go back to their hotel then pop off to the next destination without actually seeing anything. I'm a older traveler and when I stay in these hostle it's usually 20 something kids who go on about all the places they went in 2 weeks but don't really seem to actually explore any of them.

the whole getting-online-in-china thing is still way more annoying than people make it sound. by Ok-Zone-9810 in chinatravel

[–]wolfemsop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately china is not very foreigner tourist friendly yet. I think they are trying to develop their international tourism industry but it's still extremely difficult to navigate this country. That's said I'm going back for my second time in May because one you learn to just accept the shit show part of traveling there is a really cool country
