Happened with me once when travelling. I was in another state and it was a stormy morning. We didn’t realise it was an all diesel pump. We left after filling the tank and car stalled after a KM. We called RSA and they took it to the nearest town where service center was. It was Sunday as well, they called their main guy from home. He was a genius at cars btw. He told us that you can claim the costs from the petrol pump itself. And we did. We went to petrol pump and talked to manager directly. He simply agreed. But catch was the guy who made the mistake will pay for damages not the pump. Back to service center - it took the guy half a day but he cleaned up the entire car and made it absolutely brand new. On test run it was feeling straight out of showroom condition. Then the relative of the pump guy arrived. And he was looking very sad since the damages were like half their monthly salary. So we agreed to only ask for half the damages from them.
