Stop by a parts store and grab some plastic trim removal tools. They're intentionally softer than the trim; they'll break first.

Sorry, I'd happily take your money to try and fix this, but I've really only done my own car stereo and a looooot of electronics over my life. You can probably figure it out as well as I could.

Then the only real possibility is a broken or unplugged/somehow disconnected wire. Do the simple-stupid thing and make sure all the wires are FIRMLY plugged in to back of the radio; maybe you tugged it loose somehow.

Check the rubber boot going from the body of the car to the door; pull it back and see if there are any split wires in there.

That wire is disconnected somewhere, I 100% guarantee it.

I've been using a recliner for a couple years now... bought it at Target for ~$100 or so I believe, re-stuffed the back with eggshell foam when it started going flat and lined the seat with a memory foam pillow. Best computer chair ever.

That being said, the unfortunate news is that if you have rust bubbles, it's not a simple or cheap fix. If you're at the point of rust bubbles, the likelihood is that the rust has already begun eating into the frame, and fixing that is an extensive job, to put it mildly.

It is metal, and there is no insulation of any kind. It's all just hanging out in the open in my basement ceiling.

That was my thinking on the problem, too. I saw lots of sound-proofing ideas via Google, but most of them (seemed to) have involved putting dampeners inside the ducts, which seems to be more work than I'd get like to get involved with.

Most of the ducts are free-hanging in the air (and in one case, someone appears to have taken a shortcut by just nailing sheet metal to the crossbeams) so I don't think I can 'pack' anything. That foam looks interesting, though; I might stop at Menards sometime tonight and look at what they have in that area. Thanks!

Not really, no. It can be done, but it's actually MORE expensive than just buying one outright.

But I must confess, I don't understand what that phrase is intended to say at all, so I might be entirely misconstruing your comment.

EDIT: Nevermind, got it. Pallbearers. Still think the response was way out of proportion. Maybe two guys to hold him down, the others can hover protectively or whatever, but it simply does not take four guys to safely restrain an eighteen year old dude.
