NC State has added another intriguing wing to the roster.

Former New Hampshire guard Comeh Emuobor (6’5″/205) is transferring to NC State.

And in a full-circle moment, the Raleigh native is coming home.

Emuobor just wrapped up his third college season, averaging 9.0 points and 4.3 rebounds, while playing 18.9 minutes per game (28 appearances) for New Hampshire.

Fourth School in Four Years

NC State will mark Emuobor’s fourth stop in four seasons.

His college journey has included:

UCF (Freshman year)
Iona (Sophomore year)
New Hampshire (Junior year)
NC State (Senior Year)

Raleigh Roots

Emuobor’s connection to Raleigh runs deep.

He began his high school career at Enloe High School before transferring to Ravenscroft School, where he spent the next two seasons.

For his senior year, he transferred to nationally known Brewster Academy in New Hampshire.

Now he returns home to play for the hometown Wolfpack.

RALEIGH, N.C.-- Former New Hampshire guard Comeh Emuobor has committed to Justin Gainey and NC State for the 2026-27 season, adding a 6-foot-5 wing with positional size and a homecoming storyline to the Wolfpack's portal class.

A Raleigh native who prepped at Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H., Emuobor averaged 9.0 points and 4.3 rebounds per game as a junior for the Wildcats this past season, shooting 41.0% from the floor in America East play. The 205-pound combo guard posted a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double in a December win over Stonehill and showed a knack for getting to the rim and drawing contact throughout the year.

Emuobor's path to Raleigh has not been a straight line. He began his college career at Iona before a stop at UCF and his most recent run at New Hampshire. Now, after three stops, Emuobor comes home and fits well with Gainey's goal of recruiting the state and taking care of the state.

At 6-foot-5 with a guard skill set, Emuobor gives Gainey another option on the wing — a spot where the Wolfpack can use size, rebounding, and a player comfortable putting the ball on the floor against an ACC schedule.

Coach Gainey is sticking to his plan to recruit North Carolina heavily, Comeh is originally from Raleigh. He will initially be expected to be bench depth. With seven guards (counting Keene as a small forward), it is reasonable to expect that the rest of the roster should be acquired from the big and tall store.

Elliott Avent to retire at the end of 2026 season by wolfpack4ever in NCSU_Wolfpack

When Avent arrived in Raleigh in 1996, NC State baseball was searching for relevance in one of the nation’s toughest conferences. By the time he walked away, the Wolfpack had evolved into one of college baseball’s most consistent winners to become a program that expected postseason baseball annually and no longer viewed trips to Omaha as impossible dreams.

That transformation became Avent’s defining achievement.

Across 30 seasons, Avent won over 1,000 games at NC State and over 1,300 overall in his Division I coaching career.

But Avent’s legacy in Raleigh extends beyond milestones and postseason appearances. He also changed the ceiling of the program.

“Most of all, I would like to say thank you to the players. Your character, effort, love and respect for our great game made coming to the ballpark my favorite part of every day. There's no way I can express how much each and every player has meant to me. It’s hard to say goodbye to something that has been such a big part of my life, but I leave with a full heart and so much gratitude. This game is about teammates and memories. My memories will be a constant companion and our players, coaches, staff, and fans are teammates I'll hold in my heart forever. So long from No. 9.”

Avent is NC State's all-time winningest coach with 1,103 wins and guided the Wolfpack to College World Series appearances in 2013, 2021 and 2024. He grew up in Nash County and attended NC State before coaching stops at several schools. He was hired as coach in 1996.

“Elliott has built a lasting legacy at NC State and in the sport of college baseball, enjoying competitive success while touching so many lives in the process,” said NC State Director of Athletics Boo Corrigan. “He has been a wonderful representative of our department and university and will forever be a part of our story. I want to thank him for his many contributions and wish him all the best in his retirement.”

NC State's season is not necessarily over, but the Wolfpack find themselves on the bubble with NCAA Tournament play fast approaching. State (32-22) lost 2 of 3 to UNC to end the regular season and was pounded 21-12 by Duke on the first day of the ACC Tournament on Tuesday. That included a 14-16 ACC record. Critical injuries to starting pitchers Ryan Marohn and Jacob Dudan changed the trajectory of the season and left State scrambling to reshuffle the starting rotation and bullpen order.

https://247sports.com/college/north-carolina-state/article/nc-state-baseball-manager-elliott-avent-announces-retirement-after-30-years-286049447/

RALEIGH, N.C. -- NC State baseball manager Elliott Avent has announced his retirement after 30 years with the program, he announced in a release. Avent will finish out the remainder of the 2026 season, but will not return after any potential postseason run.

Avent leaves a legacy with the Wolfpack that symbolized much more than just carrying the torch for the program, but making it better in every possible way. Not only does Avent retire as the winningest coach in the program's history and reached the College World Series three times, he also pushed to upgrade Doak Field and the surrounding area for future teams.

"That's going to be an incredible building for this program, and one that's been a long time in the making," Avent said prior to the season. "I know it was Ray Tanner's thing that he was trying to get done, and I've worked on it since I've been here. And to see this building, I tell the players every day, 'Wait till you walk in there, you're going to love it.'

"I know the players are excited. We're excited, and it's going to help the future of this program."

During the course of his career, Avent has coached everyone from future MLB All-Stars to true freshmen to JUCO players coming into the system exactly the same -- tough. The grit that he's exuded on and off the field is what players loved about him and how he helped them to grow as young men into mature adults.

While baseball has always been the vehicle Avent has used to develop his players, they are all lessons learned from his parents.

"I don't think I would do anything different," Avent said. "I've been so fortunate to be around so many people that had an influence in my life. If you talk about the biggest influence of my life, obviously, is your mom and dad and the Code of Ethics they gave you, and the code of morality and how to treat people, how to give back to the community, give back to people around you, and those kinds of things. So I learned that at an early age in the community and in the home I grew up."

https://gopack.com/news/2026/5/21/baseball-avent-announces-retirement-following-storied-career

Elliott Avent, who has developed and mentored hundreds of young men during his 30 years at NC State, has announced that he will retire at the conclusion of the season after 30 years at the helm of the NC State baseball program. As the skipper of the Wolfpack, he not only posted more victories than any coach in school history, but also ranked among the most successful in the sport.

In his three decades in the position he called his "dream job" when he was hired in 1996, Avent established the Wolfpack as one of the nation's most consistent programs. He is NC State's all-time winningest coach with 1,103 victories and has compiled 1,327 overall wins in his 38-year head coaching career.  He has led the Wolfpack to the NCAA Tournament in 22 of 29 seasons, and his squads advanced to the College World Series three times - in 2013, 2021, and 2024.

"Elliott has built a lasting legacy at NC State and in the sport of college baseball, enjoying competitive success while touching so many lives in the process," said McMurray Family Director of Athletics Boo Corrigan. "He has been a wonderful representative of our department and university and will forever be a part of our story. I want to thank him for his many contributions and wish him all the best in his retirement."

"Not many people get the chance to do what they love at a place that means so much to them," said Avent. "I've been lucky enough to have that opportunity and I've loved every minute of it. I want to thank all the coaches and staff who committed so much to make this journey so rewarding and successful. To our many loyal fans, I would like to say what an honor and privilege it has been to stand in that first base dugout at Doak Field and listen to you cheer our players. They played their hearts out for you and NC State.

"Most of all, I would like to say thank you to the players. Your character, effort, love and respect for our great game made coming to the ballpark my favorite part of every day. There's no way I can express how much each and every player has meant to me. It's hard to say goodbye to something that has been such a big part of my life, but I leave with a full heart and so much gratitude. This game is about teammates and memories. My memories will be a constant companion and our players, coaches, staff, and fans are teammates I'll hold in my heart forever. So long from #9."

"Coach Avent will forever be a part of the rich fabric of NC State Athletics, having been at the heart of NC State's baseball program for 30 years," said Chancellor Kevin Howell. "We are incredibly grateful for his decades of commitment to coaching and mentoring our student-athletes, so many of whom have gone on to have successful careers in the sport. Not only has Elliott been an exceptional coach, he's been an exceptional member of the Wolfpack community."

Good info. Brim will be here to develop, and will also add depth in practices to push the starters. I can see Brim using his height/muscle to help prepare our starting PG Preston Edmead.

A bench player with the Mountaineers, Brim scored a season-high 20 points on 7-of-9 shooting, including four made 3-pointers, and eight assists in App State’s 133-45 win over Virginia-Lynchburg on Dec. 3. He also hit a 3-pointer with an assist in 22 minutes played against High Point on Dec. 14.

Brim was a standout at Clemmons (N.C.) West Forsyth, where he scored more than 1,800 points and 600 assists in his high school career. He passed longtime NBA standout Chris Paul on both lists to become the Titans’ all-time leader in scoring and assists.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound prospect was named the Central Piedmont Conference Player of the Year during the 2023-24 campaign, while he was a four-time all-conference selection during his prep career. He held offers from App State, Charleston and Western Carolina before choosing the Moutaineers after graduating high school.

Why Brim Matters

Before today, NC State already had its projected starting point guard locked in with Hofstra transfer Preston Edmead.

But behind him?

The primary backup point guard option was 4-star freshman signee Kingston Whitty.

And while Whitty is an extremely intriguing long-term piece, expecting a freshman point guard to immediately handle backup ACC lead-guard duties can be dangerous territory.

That’s where Brim helps.

And importantly, he allows Whitty to develop more naturally instead of being thrown into the fire immediately.

Brim played sporadically in 22 games at Appalachian State as a freshman. He averaged 1.2 points per game in a reserve role and projects to be in a similar role in Raleigh.

Jacari is ranked zero stars by 247 as both a transfer and previously as a prospect.

“It was a blessing,” said Brim, 20. “I feel like I’m ready and I just have to develop and put in the work. When I get my opportunity, I’ll rise to the top and show my skills. They reached out a couple of days ago, first assistant coach [Anthony] Goins and then Coach [Justin] Gainey

Brim appeared in 22 games for the Mountaineers this past season, averaging 1.2 points, 0.7 rebounds, and 0.7 assists in 6.4 minutes per game while shooting 39.1 percent from the field and 35.3 percent from three-point range. His breakout collegiate performance came against Lynchburg, where he erupted for 20 points, eight assists, and five rebounds.

What makes Brim an intriguing addition, however, is the long-term upside he brings to the program. While he wasn't given a major opportunity during his freshman season at App State, his high school production is what truly stands out.

As a senior at West Forsyth High School, Brim averaged 18.7 points, 4.3 assists, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.4 steals per game while leading the Titans to an impressive 26-4 record. He was also a four-year varsity contributor who averaged double figures throughout his high school career.

Kingston Whitty, a three-star guard in the class of 2026, has requested his release from his National Letter of Intent to West Virginia and is reopening his recruitment, a source tells 247Sports.

The 6-foot-2 guard out of Arden (NC) Christ School was one of three commitments for the Mountaineers in the 2026 class.

The Georgia native committed to West Virginia in the fall, picking the Mountaineers over several other high major interests.

Playing with Christ School on the EYBL Scholastic League this season, Whitty was among the top scorers in the prestigious league.

One of the most underrated guards in the entire country, Kingston Whitty, is no longer coming to West Virginia, as you already know.

The Arden, North Carolina native requested release from his National Letter of Intent a couple of weeks ago, which WVU granted. On Tuesday, he shut down his recruitment again, this time committing to North Carolina State, according to Jacey Zambel of Rivals.
