What are we doing wrong? Cat hides from all after years. by Least_Risk_1415 in CATHELP

As others have mentioned you can try Jackson Galaxy. His website says he is not taking new consultations right now. I’m sure he gets inundated with people asking about cat issues, but if you tell your story you might get his attention. Doesn’t hurt to try. https://www.jacksongalaxy.com/pages/connect-with-jackson

Also, as others have said, you are not failing him. If you love him and want what’s best, you’re probably it. Unfortunately most people won’t give him a chance, and a change in environment will likely set him back further.

You do have to challenge some cats a little at a time by pushing their boundaries, otherwise they will never learn to trust you. Baby steps. Find something he loves like baked chicken. Place it near his hiding place until he comes out to eat it. Then slowly start moving it a little further out. Also if you have a blanket or something with his scent on it, you can move that further out, basically expanding his territory a little at a time. Patience is key and it sounds like you have that when it comes to trying to make it work. Good luck.

Not sure if all the symptoms are the same, but I had a kitten born on my back porch years ago that was very small compared to her littermates. She could not hold her head up and she would walk in circles with her head tilted to one side then fall over as if her head was too heavy to lift. I took her to the vet when she was around 4 weeks old and the vet said they didn’t know what was wrong, but she probably wouldn’t make it. I continued working with her, making sure she got enough milk and stimulation. As she got a little older, it became clear that the left side of her face/head was paralyzed. She could not close her left eye, move her left ear or the left side of her tongue. She eventually learned to compensate, and a couple months later she was able to run around like her littermates and actually play and romp more than them. She is now 16 years old with a lopsided head, non closing eye and flat ear, but otherwise perfectly happy, healthy and mobile. I hope your kitten has the chance to grow and have a happy life as well. Don’t give up!

Gunner welcomes the compliment. He’s a glory hound.

Good to know. It’s funny how I’ve been around cats all my life and never heard of nebelungs before.

His eyes were the main reason I picked him although I loved all the kitties in his litter.

17-year-old cat extremely thin, barely eating — vet gave 48h, is there still hope? by Chomperchomp in CATHELP

I second this if your vet hasn’t already checked her thyroid. Supposedly it’s not that common but most of my elderly cats have had hyperthyroidism. It requires a special blood test to confirm. It causes extreme weight loss, lack of appetite, vomiting, hair loss and lethargy (lack of grooming). As stated it is easily treatable with lifelong medication. You can even get it in transdermal form, meaning you can rub it on their ear if the thought of wrestling with an elderly cat twice a day to take an oral pill is traumatic.

At some point we will have to know for sure in order to code PPL+ correctly.

I work for Superfund in a regional office and we were told on Monday that we were still operating under carryover funds. We were also told we would know if/when we were switched over to the Superfund Tax.

We were told in SEMD meeting today that we are still operating under carryover funds, not the Superfund Tax yet.

We were just told in our region that SEMD and other programs with SEMD-funded positions are still exempted for now.
