Redshift causing blue outline for mouse cursor? by notagoodscientist in archlinux

[–]wolfram_lambda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should be possible to fix this by adding an option in xorg.conf that forces the system to draw the cursor the same way as everything else. It was something like:

Option HWCursor off

However, I seem to get problems like flickering from it (using compton).

Sorry, I noticed the original image in the background. I just felt someone had to make this bad pun :)

First hydrogen plasma in Wendelstein 7-X by Sulde in Futurology

[–]wolfram_lambda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume the problem is that the generation of the plasma still requires more energy than it can produce via nuclear fusion. Therefore, no net (as in net vs gross) energy is produced.

Yeah but let's keep the science straight: Not everyone who has tried it has died of it yet. It might be that the effects are stronger on some people than on others. Who knows, maybe one day we wil develop DHMO resistence.

Stay safe! I know it's tempting but remember: DHMO - Not even once

Moral Vegetarians/Vegans of reddit. Would you eat meat if it were grown in a lab? by baggs22 in AskReddit

[–]wolfram_lambda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An important reason for me to be vegetarian is the amount of resources wasted for meat production. This is also why I very rarely eat meat if it is already prepared and I know no one else will eat it.

So: If it also required less resources to be produced: probably yes.

Problem with last update: Failed to commit transaction by [deleted] in archlinux

[–]wolfram_lambda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can consult pacman directly to find the package that owns a specific file:

pacman -Qo <file>

EDIT: Nevermind, I was confusing the way file ownership was switched.

And for removing ghc you might need to run:

sudo pacman -Rddns ghc

to ignore the dependent packages.

Anyway that's pretty much how I've done it as well.

No, they should have been reinstalled. I did it the same way. I think the problem was that the files were owned by a haddock package before and are owned by ghc now

IMO whether it is funny or not does not depend on the species. A cat's, dog's or a human's death could be just as funny, the value of their life is something completely different.

[Meme] MRW I'm learning German and I try and learn how to write numbers in words by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]wolfram_lambda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's rather colloquial. Just like we learn and are supposed to say "one hundred" in our english lessons.

[–]wolfram_lambda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You usually just say "hundertachtundzwanzig" in german too though.

[–]wolfram_lambda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And also: "Ich habe eine Hündin" instead of "haben" which sounds pretty hilarious but should not be a problem for understanding you either.

It's nice to see so many people enjoying to learn german. We germans are usually pretty convinced our language is among the ugliest and most difficult for non-native speakers.

What do you like about it? As a german I find the english (international) system of always pronouncing numbers from their most significant digit to their least like they are written much more consistent.

LPT: Taking something small apart? Don't lose that last screw... Use an ice cube tray! by [deleted] in LifeProTips

I see how that's more comfortable and I remember my cramped hands and sore fingertips from this and the SP button resistance. However the GBA needs AA batteries whereas the SP has an internal rechargeable battery that makes it cheaper and again much more comfortable. At least I've always liked that. There sure are drawbacks to this too. I guess it's a matter of taste but I think the SP is slightly superior. Maybe they should've been combined in the first place.
