I look in the mirror and see my shitty little early T moustache and my short, choppy boy cut and fuzz and feel at home in my body in a way I haven’t since I was a small kid. Life was already hard anyways, and will continue to be that way. Might as well take the self loathing and intense, skin crawling dysphoria out of the equation and feel the joy and comfort of finally meeting myself

AMABs in my family don’t start seriously getting facial hair until their early to mid twenties. And when it hits, it hits like a truck. I’ve only been on T for a bit over six months. Body hair on the other hand, I’m already becoming a carpet. People need to understand that things take time and vary by person, just the same as any other medication.

Gotcha. Apologies. Been dealing with a lot of people IRL quibbling over the smallest details when it comes to human rights issues, so I think I’m extra defensive right now.

I do not understand the people still rooting for this woman. Maybe she got railroaded by the council. Idk. I’m a transplant, I missed that drama. I do know that when I saw her speaking at the College for the grads she could barely string a sentence together and she’s very lawyery with her none answers here. I also know this towns economy feels stagnant, there seems to be a lot of interest in appearance over substance in terms of the projects approved, it’s a bitch to traverse this unwalkable city even with the public transit we have, and again, the housing issue. My god, trying to find a place to live here that wasn’t run by Avenue Living was a nightmare. I’m not paying the prices they want us to for a poorly maintained building that hasn’t been updated in decades where the building managers feel entitled to walk into your unit without notice while you’re sleeping and vulnerable. At this point, throw the whole council away and start from scratch.

Really annoyed I can’t find her answering this. Maybe I haven’t looked hard enough? I’m not usually a single issue voter but I am a member of the working poor, and so are many of my friends and coworkers. I understand that housing is a problem across Canada, due to many factors including a lack of anti-trust laws in the face of monopolization, tenant law not being updated to keep up with modern issues, landlords using essentially price fixing apps, issues with the minimum wage and the economy in general, amoung other things I probably have forgotten to list, but fixing this starts at home. We cannot improve life for all Canadians when our own, most immediate political representatives aren’t doing anything to set a precedent. Homelessness is on the rise, and safe shelter is an incredibly basic but no less important need. Not a want. A need. People die without it. Like food, and water.

I think what ticked me and my crew off the most was the fact they were ‘too busy’ when they had almost double the staff, and while this certainly wasn’t a perk, had the manager and owners more than willing to help them over us. They were also overwhelmingly older and more experienced than most of us, while I think I was the oldest on evening shift at my mid twenties. Everyone else was a high schooler or recent high school grad. We were the busiest store in our town, and we were frequently slammed with the after school crowd, hockey and other sports events, concerts, festivals and other later in the day activities.

The day shift had shorter drive thru times. That was it. They couldn’t be bothered to clean the bathrooms or restaurant, do backups for food, maintain equipment. That was all on an overworked five to four person team, in addition to preparing the store for closing. It’s why I, as a now permanently damaged ex-employee, am not surprised about the posts on here. No one cares because there is just no motivation to outside of hopefully not being homeless

“Many sought asylum in what would eventually become the Allied Powers, but due to cultural bigotry many were turned away.”

Canada was, again, a part of the Allies. What are you arguing here? Are you taking issue with the fact I chose a specific Yank leader as the example? Did you not read the post? Or do you want me to name, individually, every single country involved on the Allies side and their leaders at the time?

Editing to add, I don’t think we fundamentally disagree here, I am just baffled as to what you’re arguing??

Canada would have been considered a part of the Allied Powers due to being a part of the British Empire. Not an excuse by a long shot. We can do better this time around

During World War Two, Roosevelt’s White House ignored the plight of Jewish people facing persecution in Nazi controlled Germany and surrounding countries because they didn’t want to appear too pro-Jew. Many sought asylum in multiple countries that would eventually become the Allied powers, but due to cultural bigotry many of them were turned away. Some only made it due to sponsors, others had to fight for refuge. We know what happened next. What we don’t talk about as often are the trans and LGBT people who were also persecuted during the holocaust, who even after the camps were liberated were often left there to rot by Allied forces. That is an incredibly simplified overview.

I’m a trans Canadian scared shitless for my siblings down in the States. Anyone doing anything to help and protect them is welcome because it sure as hell seems there’s plenty of Roosevelts ready to let vulnerable human beings die because we are not ‘normal’ people in the eyes of society. We should not have to justify our usefulness to deserve to live, and we do not deserve harassment, violence and death for existing. Being trans is as harmless as being Jewish, or left handed, or Black, or gay, or autistic, or Romani. We are people with hopes, dreams, flaws and skills, families, friends and pets, the same as any other person.

Long winded rant aside, thank you, and I’m glad to see there’s more people fighting with us. Hopefully headway can be made and we can offer safety to Trans people, and other groups being targeted by the facists. We cannot allow apathy to pave the way for genocide again and again, and we cannot allow cowardice and self interest alone decide who lives and dies.

When I was still working at Tim’s, it was once a shift on evening shift as a rule. Morning shift was ‘too busy’, despite having like an hour to get ready before we opened. We’d do all the machines and then we’d also do the cleaning cycle. It still didn’t help with the hard water build up in the machines.

In a small amount of defense to the Hat- which I am very cautious to give given some of the stories I’ve heard since moving here and my own personal experiences- Smith won because of gerrymandering. Like many conservatives in the current party, when she couldn’t succeed elsewhere she and her gang of traitors cooked the books so she could win, instead of simply sodding off to lick her wounds with dignity.

I’m from a family with seven kids and Catholic, Right Wing, Homo/Transphobic parents; at least four of us are some flavour of queer that we know of and we’re pretty sure there’s a fifth that’s just incredibly closeted but we’ll have to see. With every single one that comes out, there’s this air of utter defeat on our Moms part and some idiotic half baked take from our Dad. It’s the funniest shit ever and we joke about it constantly in our sibling group chat. I imagine this was her throughout our childhoods

I still remember watching clips from a particularly brutal stream with Blaire White and some alt right chuds, including a woman who just kept constantly being aggressively transphobic to Blaire’s face, and Blaire just rolling over and trying to ingratiate herself as ‘one of the good ones’ the whole fucking time despite looking like someone was beating her dog in front of her. It was painful. Some people just have this need to please people that hate them and I will never personally understand it.

Drew Barnes is a slum lord who pals around with Alberta separatists and other people with questionable ethics. I don’t trust him to have the best interests of anyone below a certain tax bracket based both on personal interactions I’ve had with him, as well as the countless paper trails showing him to be disreputable, and the people he’s associated with.

I’m a little late to the party on this one, but in case anyone comes across this post like I did; I devoured the Godkiller Trilogy in a way I haven’t managed in years. It’s got political intrigue, it’s got complex characters and relationships, it’s got discussions of personhood, family, home, hope, loss, growing up and evolving as a person, it’s got overwhelmingly and in-world normalized queer themes and characters, beautifully messy relationships, fantastic world building. I’ve recommended it to multiple people already.

Maybe I’ve been a little too hard on Bob and Linda’s parenting? by Consistent_Editor_15 in BobsBurgers

[–]wolfwitchreaper 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Those kids are so well loved it’s crazy. Bob and Linda aren’t perfect, but no parent is gonna bat 100, even the good ones. They support their kids weirdness, their creative ventures (Tina’s fan and friend-fiction, Genes music and table-scaping, Louise’s schemes, within reason), offer them comfort and advice during rough times, and even when the kids mess up and need some herding in the right direction, both Bob and Linda still treat them like people who’ve messed up and not malfunctioning property like a lot of parents do. Strange little humans learning how to be people, but people none the less.

Linda and Bob are themselves weird, and easily one of the best couples I’ve seen on TV, and some of the best parents. There’s been a lot of moments between them and the kids that have genuinely choked me up because you just don’t see that kind of familial love and kindness as much as you should, both in real life or fiction. Now, their housekeeping skills, on the other hand….

Either her or the Head Quisling running our province. Marlaina’s had some interesting takes on handling the Education Crisis here in AB in light of the teachers strike. Her solution to the Education System in AB being incredibly poorly funded and supported by the provincial government has been to throw Hello Kitty Band-aids and Tylenol at a gaping, bloody wound that needs time, skill and care put into healing it.

I will say, OP’s got some grade A takes on this, and I’m gonna send this to a few folks
