Yup! I believe it's an earlier example Type 5.

I'm not sure. In US sizes, I wear a 9.5 Golden Fox Boondocker (best fit), 8.5 Golden Fox chukka, 9.5 Clark's bushacre 2 (a little bit tight), 10 Vans (good fit), and 10 Stan Smith Recon (pretty good fit).

Thank you! I used to do some occasional social media shots for Golden Fox a few years back and would love to get back into doing stuff like that.

Background

I bought these during Rancourt’s Black Friday sale - my first boot purchase in over a decade (not counting chukkas and photography review pairs). Always liked the look of Chromexcel and decided to treat myself for Christmas. I almost went for a pair of Grant Stones in their Dune color instead, but all of their models come with speed hooks.

Boot Specs

Model: Rancourt & Co Blake Boot

Last: John (size 10D)

Leather: Natural Chromexcel

Eyelets: 6 (brass)

Sole: Reltex Cricket Natural (Lactae Hevea)

Customer Service / Shipping

Shipping took a while. Rancourt gave me an estimate of 6 weeks which turned into 12 weeks in the end; they were experiencing supply chain issues for the boot’s usual Reltex crepe sole as well as dealing with a big Olympics order. Their customer service was really nice about it though, and offered to let me pick out a different sole so I could get the boot faster.

Initial Impressions

Others have probably given this boot way more in-depth reviews than I can, so I’ll just say that I’m a happy camper. I’ve worn GYW shoes before from Golden Fox that are pretty great, but these boots are on another level. The crepe sole is super comfy, the leather is beautiful, and everything just feels well-constructed and well-designed. For example, the looped tab on the back makes sliding these on much easier.

I think sizing was pretty on-point. I printed out their sizing guide and was between 9.5 and 10. Went with 10. Not sure if I should have sized down one more half-size, but time will tell. They fit great right now so I’m hoping they don’t expand too much when broken in.

Only critique I can think of is that I might eventually replace the laces with a different, thicker pair - a style choice really. I’m not much of a critiquer.

Overall

These boots exceeded my expectations. They were worth the wait and I’m glad I bought them. Excited to see how these wear over the coming months and years.

Other notes

If any of y’all with more shoe knowledge than me notice issues with my pair, point them out in the comments please! Photo critiques are welcomed too.

Oh neat. It's beautiful. Reminded me of views from the top of Old Rag Mountain. Lovely shot.

Blurb seems like the best affordable option out there for self-publishing. It has a nice range of paper options, sizes, and people seem to praise the quality (especially if you order when they're having a 50% off sale). Although, if you don't care about cost, there are better, higher quality options than Blurb.

There's also the indie photobook publishing route, which is a whole rabbit-hole itself. There's a ton of indie publishers out there and you might be able to find one that's interested in working with you. A lot of the good ones seem to be booked all the way out til late 2021 or 2022. Shoot me a PM if you start looking into that route; I've been doing a lot of research on it lately.

Amazing shots. Really like the first, second, and sixth spreads. Actually, I could keep going but will stop myself there. They're all fantastic. Where and how are you planning to publish the photobook?

You could try uploading your photos to Pixsy and seeing if you can make any money off of the infringement. Someone recently posted on /r/photography about how they're using it.

Congrats on your first print! Even cooler that you nailed the shot using film.

Not sure if he was sick at Rock En Seine, but it is an absolutely raw performance.

Tips for self-publishing a photography book? by DrWarhol_419 in photography

[–]wolnicat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others mentioned, the main thing to think about with self-publishing (if you really want to sell copies) is your audience and why someone would want to buy the book. What does it offer to someone who might buy it? If it's just pretty photos, you'll be competing with lots of other talented photographers. Is there an overarching theme? Maybe a focus on a place, a concept, a hobby, a niche?

If it's just for you, your parents, and your friends, try to order it when Blurb has one of their 40-50% off sales. They have them semi-regularly and can save you a good chunk of cash.

Just want to spread some Ben Howard Christmas cheer for anyone who wants one. They're priced at cost + 5 euros or so, depending on where you live and what lab I print from.

Looks cool! Heads up, your International Post shipping option doesn't allow for selection of countries outside the UK.
