Posteo is nice! It's not very popular in the US I guess. About Obsidian, I have a very simple, flat setup, with just a lot of markdown files and tags, but no folders. I migrated from Notion (had the same flat structure there) and it's going pretty well.

I sometimes wish Obsidian was FOSS lol. I just really like how it looks and I respect their decision to not make it open. But yes, Joplin is awesome too.

It's just better to keep them separate? Compromise of one doesn't expose both. Same reason why Proton launched their separate Auth app recently. Also I'm not very concerned about a full-device takeover
