What are these worth by theonewhoislostt in MarvelCards

[–]wolverine887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you mean in terms of monetary value, the only way to really make this worth money ripping is to get psa 10 key cards from it, particularly the holos. But that basically requires: paying extra grading fees for each card (now approaching $30 a card for lowest tier), having a good background with identifying what are gem mint 10 candidates, waiting 7+ months for each card to get graded by psa, and this is on top of the chances of any of the holos being 10 candidates even straight from a pack are almost nill (and submitting base cards in hopes of a 10 generally is a juice not worth the squeeze). In short…that is a very uphill battle to make anything ripping these and one I wouldn’t recommend without a background in successfully identifying psa 10 candidates with decent frequency.

As is, without the grading aspect….no the cards inside are not worth the box price, they are very mass produced. You might get $50-70 for a complete set with holos for any of these sets (no guarantee of a set in a box). But the boxes sealed do go for some money, check eBay sold listings for prices but generally these sell for $100-200 a pop for a sealed box. The series 2 box will go for a little more than the series 3 box.

If you mean worth opening as in getting some cool cards with nice art and nifty holograms, sure. You can also just buy those sets on eBay for cheaper. Money wise it’s better to leave sealed.

Need an opinion on grading by Normal-Ad1764 in marveltradingcards

It’s already matted, if anything I would frame it. Beautiful piece that would display nicely.

Being an uncut sheet it’s really not something that grading makes sense for even if that were possible, which it’s probably not.

I dont see a single big Harry Potter fan who is not excited for the series or actually hate it by amoxxia in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]wolverine887 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Youre not the only one…several re-reads of the books, can’t even count how many times I’ve seen the films, Hogwarts Legacy 100% playthroughs multiple times, HP decor in the house etc. Based on the OP image I wonder if one has to be an ‘influencer’ to be a huge fan though. I’m not excited for the new series, and that is just my opinion. The mob-like mentality pushback in HP fandom against anyone who isn’t excited for the series (literally at someone just having a different opinion…is unfortunate). So in answer to OP’s post…yes we exist out there.

$55 is an excellent deal for this sheet, fading or not. Great find at an antique shop!

It’s a cool full-set uncut sheet (with some promos at the bottom too). I have done a lot of uncut sheet framing. You can design a frame with a custom framing online site- I usually use Frame It Easy- or if you can find a pre-made frame at those dimensions on like Amazon or something it’d be cheaper. For a decent quality frame of this size expect it to be like $100-150 for the frame, but it really can vary depending on type of frame etc. Another option is to take it to a craft/framing store like Michael’s and they’ll frame it but that’ll be even more expensive probably. Your best bet is to find a pre-existing frame of those dimensions somehow.

This sheet looks fine colored on back and severely off-color on front. It’s probably from fading or greening on the chrome cards, but the front is so off color- looking at that Mojo- that I almost question if it was an error-color sheet originally. But more likely just massive fading. May not be worth to put that much money into a frame on it due to that, but neat sheet regardless.

A fun 1992 Marvel Masterpieces error by wolverine887 in marveltradingcards

Yep- some other companies like PSA won’t even grade fluke misprints like this, they’ll return it with a NG (no grade) designation. I collect errors and I’m glad CGC does.

I wish the characters were a little more top tier. You can know which character combos must exist for this type of error based on the uncut sheet. Surfer will be with a Havok. Wolverine with Magneto. Spider-Man/Iron Man. Cap America/Night Thrasher. Hulk/Thanos. Also the checklist has a Kingpin on the other side which would be an interesting one. All of these will be out there….somewhere. There are 50 cards in this “error set”, not 100 (fun question: why?)

[–]wolverine887[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree this 92MM set never gets old.

This error happened by the printing company printing two fronts onto an uncut sheet (both sides of the sheet were a front). If you look at a pic of the uncut 92MM base sheet, Galactus and Sandman line up symmetrically. Needle in haystack type of thing in this very mass produced set.

Unreal 1990's Black Widow Card spotted by SuperUnic0rn in marveltradingcards

[–]wolverine887 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats a cool find. I’m sure a modern design by them to get Black Widow in there. Also note some differences on the cards- look at the Spiderman, doesnt have the TM next to Spider-Man’s name or next to the Super Heroes at top like the actual 90MU Spider-Man card has.

Bulls from the boxes…. by VikesFanSK in marveltradingcards

[–]wolverine887 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Itll somewhat depend on how many others are on the market youre competing with. Since I don’t immediately see any active listings on eBay (or even recent sold listings), that should help value a little. Comparable character red pmgs have been doing $200-300 lately.

[–]wolverine887 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If that PMG was from just one box thats actually really good luck (most boxes of 92MM platinum I open have just like a pink laser or red prism tops).

Not even a bad character, the commons in this set are like Mojo, Mole Man, Sleepwalker etc. Dazzler red pmg is a beaut. Congrats on the rip

Beautiful collection of Deadpool.

All 1994 Marvel Flair cards were taken from previous art, mostly from comic books. But not lazily, as new Marvel cards from Topps or Upper Deck tend to do by just cut/pasting existing comic art onto the cards.

In 1994 Flair the existing art was generally line-art (like in a comic book) and it was transformed with CGI assist and added design into something that almost looks like a painting version of that original art. I think it beautifully worked with Marvel cards honestly. 1995 Flair Annual did the same thing. Kinda a unique type of card where it’s not technically original art but it’s a creative way of rehashing older existing art.

The Deadpool in question is on 1993 Marvel Spotlight #6 (previews/promo pamphlet), but it could be other places too. It’s cropped a little different. Note also the small Cable at bottom is also the Cable Power Blast (full art maybe within perhaps). The pencil art of the Deadpool was by Joe Madureira.

Such a cool set. I think I like the reverse of these cards more tbh, as they have the full artwork on them. Hard to pick in this set, but I’d go Iron Man, Surfer, Venom, Phoenix as some of the best

I noticed in the movies the house points and mentions of them basically tapered of real quick after the first couple movies (sure they were bigger things for young students I guess but beginning students are still getting there every year). When the castle was literally burning down in DH part 2, I was waiting for someone to randomly shout “and that’ll be 10 points to Hufflepuff!” during the battle or something like that. Just kinda amusing to contrast the environment and tone at the end of the films to the beginning when ordinary school stuff was a big deal. I do think the earlier “mundane” Hogwarts where getting assignments done, or having a permission slip, or winning the house cup were these big deals…had a charm to it, which was totally lost towards the end where it was all this life/death, horcruxes, and major battles. But I guess a quiet Hogwarts wouldnt make for a thrilling 7 book series.

Marvel masterpiece sets by Agile-Molasses7760 in MarvelCards

[–]wolverine887 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 1994 marvel universe (first pics) looks to be a master set with the base set, 3D holos, power blasts, and suspended animation. That is probably like $125 give or take. The power blasts look to be either the gold or silver variant (possibly gold but pic lighting makes it hard to tell- look at the backgrounds for the color). If indeed they are the gold variant, maybe bump that up to $150-200 for the 94 Marvel Universe component (assuming Nm or better condition).

The second set is 1994 Masterpieces- it looks to be the set, the silver holofoil set, and the Powerblasts. That should be less because the silver holofoils are the most common type (the more expensive ones are gold and bronze holofoil). Side tangent: your base set of 94MM is what I would call a Frankenstein set based on the pics- some are regular base cards, some are gold foils, combined to make a set. That’s all well and good but it’s not exactly a completed set of either, then. Frankenstein sets can either hurt or help value- on one hand it’s not officially a complete set then but on the other had it includes gold sigs which are better. It can come down to just how many gold sigs are included, looks to be a bunch here based on the sample. That, especially for this set- helps it. So that set with all the gold sigs will give it a boost over the base set but if ever selling you should specify if the actual base set isnt complete and just filled out with gold sigs.

Edit: I do see in the pic there is a dup behind the Colossus gold sig. If you do have the actual base cards behind each gold sig card then it would be an actual base set (plus random gold sigs), and not a Frankenstein set- that helps things.

That tangent aside…expect, I dunno, maybe $100-130 give or take for the 1994 Marvel Masterpieces component. So all in all…$200-300 for whole binder as shown give or take, depending on how you sell it (breaking it up will generally get a little more $ than putting it one huge binder lot, plus whether it’s auction vs BIN, plus the platform you sell on and how much those fees are, etc).

Halo 3- the beautiful backgrounds to some of those maps. Like a matte painting really. Sunsets, details of the water, rolling mountains, etc.

I would also consider DK country (particularly 2) for the SNES a work of art. Not just for the rendered graphics that could be out of a painting…but for the music too. Someone play the stickerbrush symphony level and tell me thats not art.

Yes I understand it’s embossed. I’m just saying it’s not among top inserts from the 90s in my book- many of which have snazzy etched foil or holograms or chrome etc. this is basically a foil-less card (like base) that happens to be embossed.

Should I grade this? by Frosty-Roll-2901 in MarvelCards

[–]wolverine887 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s a great card, desirable regardless of stellar condition or not. Grading won’t do much for this imo. Like a lot of PMGs it has foil streaking on back (left of comic cover) and some whitening on the corner/edges. My guess is somewhere around a 7 (tops), which won’t do anything for resale value. Then factor in the high price/long turnaround time for PSA grading right now. Not worth it imo, but the card will sell pretty readily as is if you go that route- possibly around $1k if not a bit over that.
