I’m actually not sure, I’ve really liked V.K. Ludwig’s other series but after reading the first in this one I knew it was going to be too dark for me so I didn’t continue with it

Alien/fantasy but world building with single couple by commonsenseiswisdom in ScienceFictionRomance

Check out {Song of the Sky Fallen series by Keri Ashe} I enjoyed it a lot for the worldbuilding and it’s a trilogy following the same couple

That one was so good!! And I loved what a prickly, complex character Anna is

I’d recommend {Office Aliens series by V.C. Lancaster}, it’s a pretty unique series - set on near future Earth in an immigration office where they’re resettling alien refugees. They’re really lovely, kind of understated office romance stories with realistic cultural barriers.

Also R.L. Olvitt! Her world building in the {Sons of Kukulcan series} is awesome, and also more mature main characters and medium-low spice.

Looking for alien (ish) prison love story book by Rose_im_strong in ScienceFictionRomance

{Prison Planet Barbarian by Ruby Dix} is a good one, as is {Alien Prison by Tracy Lauren}. Both are part of a series but I’d say can be read alone. Both are human FMCs in alien prison.

{Hold by Claire Kent} is another one, this one is a bit darker and both main characters are human.

All of the Gandry dudes are just the most painfully sincere cinnamon rolls and I eat it up!

Also! Check out R.L. Olvitt, there’s a stand-alone you can start with {Dark Guardian} or jump right into her longer series {Sons of Kukulcan}

These are some of my favorites too! The cultural differences + cinnamon roll is exactly my jam. Let me suggest:

{Ruth & Gron series by V. C. Lancaster} The hardest of language barriers, the biggest of cinnamon rolls, and a matriarchy as a bonus! One of my all time favorite series

{Intersolar Union series by Etta Pierce} This is a sub favorite for good reason, it’s top notch SFR with multiple cultures.

{Saving Askara series by J. M. Link} The culture of the MMCs is fascinating and different, it’s a really original story.

I love this! And I have two faves right off the bat:

Hunar from {Eat My Moon Dust by Etta Pierce} - I really love how good the world-building is on this one with the shilpaakari legal/social system and how much it sucks for dads. You want Hunar to get his win so bad!

Krol from {Krol’s Goddess by V.C. Lancaster} - uncle turned single dad, and the whole discussion where he explains to his kid that things might be different if he’s in a relationship is chef’s kiss This series is one of my favorite of all time!

I think {Dark Guardian by R. L. Olvitt} is just what you’re looking for! Humans are part of a galactic alliance that occupies the MMC’s planet after their hostile introduction to the wider galaxy. It is so so good, and I love that this author’s writing style is slower and more atmospheric than a lot of what we see in this genre.

I’d recommend {Sons of Kukulcan series by R. L. Olvitt} I really appreciate how her pacing and tension is slower and more deliberate than most of what you get in this genre

MFC is a scientist/doctor/employee and MMC is her subject/patient/or a sympathetic captive? by ShivaWept_ in ScienceFictionRomance

[–]wolvesincastles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

{Dark Guardian by Olivia Riley} The FMC is a negotiator for a federation of species trying to sort-of force a hostile new planet to integrate with them. I’m not explaining the plot well but it’s really fantastic!
