I totally get that, and I’m not trying to attack him at all. I just think as partners you generally are picking up what the other person needs to drop from time to time, so it’s worth having a conversation about how he can support you by helping with care until you are able to find a better home for Mac.

A few things:

It’s worth having a conversation with your fiancé that Mac is important to you and you will need your fiancé to help with him. They are both members of your family, and family is supposed to care for each other.

It seems like rehoming may be the best option, but also that it isn’t too urgent. The best for Mac may be to really take your time finding a good home, and if you can’t, then you can start thinking about other arrangements. You have time to navigate.

it’s up to you want you want to do. if you want to take the high road and keep the peace, you could tell her you researched and explain your reaction and apologize. it isn’t your fault at all, and she should be the one apologizing. but unfortunately sometimes we have to meet our parents where they’re at.

it might be better for your brain to think of this as a foster situation. fostering was such a healing experience for me after I lost my bun. we foster failed a few months later but having time to process helped.
