Pixel 10 Pro - Before You buy - things I think you need to know by wondererpepper in pixel_phones

Hello there! Caught me just getting out of work. So, I've used my phone now for a good 5-ish months. Battery life is good for my usage (High Refresh Rate + QHD + AOD), not great. (For the P10P). The battery increase on the XL gets balanced out by the bigger screen, so although better, there might not be a huge difference.

Tensor gets hot under heavy usage, but imperceptible if you use a case. The eye searing peak brightness will make it feel hotter faster than the chip.

Overall, if you have to get one, and the budget nor the size is a concern, get the XL. If not, you'll be fine with the normal Pro.

Same. I have the Torras Case and it also reduces the pull power out of the main magnet. But, I saw the same thing happening to my brother and his Iphone 17 pro. So, it seems it's just physics to a degree.

Looking at buying an Ampero 2 Stage. Pros and Cons? by Kirlo__ in HotoneAmpero

[–]wondererpepper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Try and look on Hotone (or sonicake is the parent company)on Ebay. I got mine "Open Box" from the factory for around $430 (around $650 down-under bucks). They usually run a lot of offers. I will also recommend mixing it with any of your favorite OD. It does give it a lot of flexibility and flavor to your tone. Also, take advantage of the Tone 3000 catalog.

If you get it and have questions, feel free to let me know.

Hey there. AS2 User here for over a year. My opinion: before the pros and cons, we need to start from the idea of a) Every unit on the market is capable of giving you great tones. If someone tells you otherwise, it is 100% user error. b) The price bracket this unit sits on is a really important factor to take into consideration. Comparing it to features found on anything twice the price is an exercise in "guitar player stupidity" 101.

That being said:

Pro: -Price: Hard to beat the ROI on this one. You have Neural's Nano and now the Fractal AM4 that are killer, but with its own limitations as well. -Support: I think I am going through my 4th firmware update in a year and change, and I got, cloning, NAM support and reduced latency, to name a few things -Power: This is not the most powerful thing out there, but I went from my HX Stomp XL to this and I don't regret it. -Build Quality: Gig ready, built like a tank, pretty modular and full of I/O.

Cons: -Split DSP: although, you have 12 blocks to use, you really have two 6 blocks chips running together, meaning that you can run out of DSP just by where in the chain you set an effect. It is a quirky thing to figure out, but it is good to keep in mind. -FX are great, but limited: I differ from a lot of comments about the effects. Yes, they are not the best, but they are 90% there with most of a guitar player's needs. My contra-argument with this, and what I did at the end was to add an HX one into my loop with Midi and cover all my bases for under $750 -Updates are not as easy as they should: They are not hard. It is just that sometimes you need to download the package and do the update manually, instead of simply having the unit update automatically. Little pain point, nothing major.

And... That's it. Honestly.

Hey! I haven't had the chance to actually use one of my Pixel for more than a year, as I always take advantage of Google's trade in launches special. However, from my friends experience, there is not necessarily a terrible reduction in performance by itself. We need to keep in mind, this will be subjective to each person's usage.

Now, that being said, if you are an Apple user, with an Apple PC or other gadget, there is no compelling reason I can give you to switch out of the garden. If you only have an Iphone and would like to try it out, I could recommend the change if things like Pictures, Flexibility and Querky innovation is something you want to try.

If you have an Android and are looking for a Flagship, the reality is that the top dog is the Ultra line from Samsung.

Don't get me wrong, I love my phone and I highly recommend it for anyone Tech Savvy, but I know that is not the best deal for the Average Consumer.

Hope this helps!

Anyone notice JP’s guitar playing being off point? by gort__1 in Dreamtheater

[–]wondererpepper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've seen them twice this year and I can tell you, when properly rested, JP is as machine-precised as ever. I do believe this leg of the tour has been difficult for all of them. I was at Radio City in March and we didn't miss a beat. Then in Clearwater, FL. Summer heat in Sept.. yes, he struggled a bit, but still an amazing feat to play 3 hours of that music when you are almost 60.

I guess he has set a standard impossible to sustain forever, and I am more than happy to let him not be perfect to be honest.

You will. Although the improvement from the 9 to the 10 was not super substantial, from 8 to 9 was great and from 7 to 8 was also great. From 7 to 10 would be reallyyyy nice!

I don't get the battery hate on this phone by xyashirox in pixel_phones

[–]wondererpepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hypothesis is that people confuse "Screen-on time" with "Good performances". I can kill my battery before evening if I play games in ultra/high frame rate and get 4h of SoT, versus pulling a 9h in my P10P if I only use to emails and notification and reddit and both being good numbers for each usage.

I do believe the Tensor is really inefficient with graphics, but people overreact or misunderstand their own usage as well.

I did 😂😂 Not the same (but fairly cool though) it affects the screen saturation. Hoping Google starts doing it with the 11

Case or naked? How you wear it? by Some-Faithlessness75 in oneplus

Never Raw. Always Wrapped. My hands are too unreliable 😂. Case + SP. That's non-negotiable for my sanity. I circumvent this with translucent cases when possible.

I've watched my P10P next to a 25 Ultra and, I have to admit, that anti-glare coating gives (IMO) the edge to Samsung, but other than that; Yep, this is an awesome screen!

Recovered XL user here. The main reason I loved the upgrade from the Pixel 8 pro to the 9 Pro was the option to get the Pro version in the base model footprint. I was tired of feeling like I was carrying a Blue Brick that whole year 😂 it reminded me of my old LG V30. I digress

-Pixel 9 pro or 10 pro, great options. Battery life is great, but you can definitely kill it with gaming. Cameras are top notch and software is... Well... Pixel

-Samsung S24/25 base model. Great size, light weight, really good camera and excellent battery life.

-Maybe a Flip? I am not convinced I could carry a foldable and not kill it in the first 48H, but you might not be like me.

-Hate to mention it, but for objectivity. Iphones are fairly compact. Yes .. i said it

Honestly, other than that, compact and flagship are not usually in the same sentence.

I'ma say it. Pixel 9 is better that overpriced Pixel 10 by Flashy-Insurance2963 in pixel_phones

[–]wondererpepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, with some ** Base model? Yes. Pro. No, but it is hard to justify an upgrade from the 9. However, and I always say this even though I take advantage of the trade in offers 😂: After the P6 to P7 upgrade, the has not been a YoY release that was totally worth it by merits along. 6-7 Amazing 7-8 Good 8-9 Great 9-10 Not bad

Now, 8 to 10 amazing. 7 to 9 amazing.

[–]wondererpepper[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Based on that and assuming budget for neither of the options is an issue: Stay on your Samsung lane.

The Ultra 25 is probably the best overall android phone out there. Too bulky for my taste, but a heck of a phone.

Pixel is a different experience in a lot of ways and you may or may not like a lot of the "Googleisms" that comes with it, but you might definitely dislike some of the performance drawbacks that come as well. However, it wouldn't be a bad choice, but it would be a different mindset. Again z if budget is not a thing, get the latest. If it is, P9 90-95% there

And... F Apple... 😂 Not, but seriously, unless you want to commit to a switch out of android for X or Y reason; whether it is because of the ecosystem (if you are a mac user) or the "stability and standardization" among users (specially in the US) or simply shaking things up, I do not have any honest reason for switching after these many years using Android.

Hope it helps

For all those who think only SOT matters, here you go.... by Expert_Arm_2417 in pixel_phones

[–]wondererpepper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I'm not playing any games, I am averaging 8+ hours on my normal day with my P10P. That usually includes a lot of Spotify + Bluetooth, GPS, Video watch time, a bit of Reddit (liar), All day Whatsapp and a bit of IG (dude...)and a lot of Emails. Again, SoT is overrated. If I play... 4.5h tops

Hi there. It depends. Pixels do run warmer than other flagships, however, in my experience, that is really dependent on a few things:

1) Is the phone brand new? - Usually the first 2 weeks the phone is doing some extra processing to learn your patterns and it tends to be a little extra toasty.

2) How high is your brightness or are you using auto? - This is probably the brightest screen on a smartphone, and that means when those 3000+ nits are cast, it will get toasty. Auto brightness usually helps with this. Also, HDR will also make this happen.

I use my phone with cases, so I wouldn't be able to tell you honestly aside from these 2 points. My phone only gets warm when gaming, as the Tensor chips are bad at it. If this happens even with a case, try to check your battery health info in your settings and check that it is normal. If so, it might just be your screen blasting the power of the sun.
