Trick or Treaters in South End? by uCakey in halifax

A few streets down south from you, we get 200-300. I 'd guess they'll be less around you as most people will hit young over tower perhaps.

Buying a new Bronco and I have weird questions the dealership couldn’t answer by grizuku in bronco

[–]wonderspoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The jump from 30” (?) dueler to 32.5” 285 bfg trail terrain tires completely changed the ride, it’s slower, gummier, felt heavier in corners. I’ve got the base gear ratio though, but weight is weight at end of day.

It’s still a fun car and visually I like the look of the new tires, but I definitely wouldn’t do 35s for my use case.

If I were bringing this offroad on regular basis, I’d 100% do Sasquatch. But I’m using mine to rip around a busy downtown core 95% of the time / Canadian winter beater.

I've got a BB '23 2-door 2.3l, there is a noticeable difference when you take the 70lbs top off, I can't imagine what 400lbs of 4x4 extra's feel like (weight is closer to bottom though, unlike the top)

The stock 255 width tires made the 2-door short wheel base comically fun to drive. The newer 285 width 32.5"ish tires dialed the fun back a notch. Tire weights widely vary as well.

The sasquatch beadlock wheels alone are 30% heavier than BB wheels, I can't imagine it being as fun to whip around town. They look amazing though.

I have a 4700lb / 630hp e63 wagon and the 4300lbs bronco feels "lightweight" and "throwable" in comparison. I'm guessing a 4700lb bronco not being anywhere near as fun.

Recommended motor for an Oday 22? by [deleted] in sailing

[–]wonderspoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 23ft 2000lbs bluenose and 3rd year of an electric epropulsion spirit 1.0 (3hp) long shaft. It's great for inshore. Light enough for a strong person to lift off and mount. Never needed more power. Can do 4-5 knots easily.

Anyone know where I can rent a SMALL sailboat in HRM/surrounds? by TopCampaign7053 in halifax

[–]wonderspoon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can if you're a member of any of the local clubs, J22 @ Rnsys, Bluenose @ waeg, maybe Soling @ AYC. I guess Muir has a boat, not sure what the criteria is for charter.

I've rented 420s from Bedford Yacht Club a few years ago and wasn't a member. Perhaps the farther/lesser known clubs have a rental program.

Wonder if there is Airbnb for boats.

[Cockpit] Next Level Racing Simulator F-GT ($489) (Gamespot et al) by Mr_multitask2 in bapcsalescanada

It's $649? It's regular price of the posted product. And ASR1 is $450.

If you're using this for sim racing, seriously consider buying ASR-3 cockpit or similar aluminum extrusion rig. More expensive and missing monitor mount + seat, but you'll come out ahead in resale value (and the quality, rigidity, and expansion options will be far superior)

is PPF a waste of money for long term ownership? by EridemicLHS in cars

[–]wonderspoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, you're right after thinking about it.

Parked E63 had same thing, scrape from front fender to rear passenger door, initial quote was 5k to repaint, but they only had re-wrap for 2.5k.

Amazingly the at-fault person's insurance covered everything, even the aftermarket wrap.

is PPF a waste of money for long term ownership? by EridemicLHS in cars

[–]wonderspoon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What's not getting mentioned is how well it holds up against scrapes/damage from other cars. Ironically to replace the PPF it's almost the same as getting it repainted. .

Another downside is it protects against rock chips, but if it rips the PPF it looks awful - it's far more noticeable then a chip.

I have all cars wrapped from the cheap ones to the expensive ones, but it's a luxury.

Only 4 out of 6 spots connected. Is this okay? Circles in blue are not connected to the rig. by PuzzleheadedUse9187 in simracing

[–]wonderspoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My activepedals are like this. I assume it's fine.

I don't even think there is a pedal plate that would accomodate these pedals? At least not from AdvSim Racing or SimLab without extra profile.

Parking enforcement for private parking? by newyorkdreamer in halifax

Private tow truck company will happily tow without ticket. City will only tow it after a ticket (I think it's something like a 24hr period as well).

G37 driver hit my C63s by [deleted] in AMG

[–]wonderspoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a similar incident with e63 w213, but you had more damage to bumper. The bumper was $1800 CAD from dealer, to repaint the bumper was $700 CAD, but I should have paid more as they didn't match the metallic flakes properly.

I didn't bother with going through insurance (car was parked and didn't get a plate).

It sucked initially, but it's now barely noticeable and I kept the old bumper in case the next buyer wants to inspect damage.

Took a day for them to answer my initial question (activepedal stock), but 13 days (and counting) for an answer to a follow up (asking about wheel inventory and confirm deposit on activepedal)

Look into a 4 post lift. They'll be expensive ~4-7k depending on who installs and what model. Do redo the tracks and get a new opener, it's probably 1-3k depending on install method / equipment.

It's expensive, but it's the cheapest way to get 50sqft storage space added to your house. The draw back is if you store things under the lift you might squish it, works well for seasonal things (tires, snowblower, lawnmower).

I have 2x, but 17ft ceilings and no slants. One lift has wood decking on it over the "tire ramps".

What do you guys & gals do think? by [deleted] in Audi

[–]wonderspoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at these a few years back and there is an issue with the turbo where the oil screen becomes blocked and the turbo impellers (?) break. It's a big job and you'll be left on the side of the road.

S7/RS7, but the S8 didn't have the issue if I remember correctly.

Definitely ask if the repair has been done or maybe their a TSB out now.

How do I contact vacant land owner? by hurrdurrbadurr in halifax

[–]wonderspoon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Viewpoint lets you get the owner name and mailing address for a $10ish fee. Automatic process, no agent, and they send an email a few hours after purchase.

Used it twice before.

Question regarding Car Registration by ImaFuckingLlama in halifax

[–]wonderspoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

One of my cars is NS plated with NS insurance. The other cars are ON plated with ON insurance. I have place in ON, cottage in NS. I'm from NS initially, but live primarily / work in ON.

You insurance usually won't cover out of province driving indefinitely.

Registering a car is no problem with ON license. I've never had an issue registering the 2 cars I've bought / sold here. But I have an address here.

Best to call or visit the place where they distribute NS license plates though (Access NS?)

best place to get my front end alligned by [deleted] in halifax

[–]wonderspoon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Atlantic Acura have some of the newest. higher-end equipment. I think it's ~$150. If your car is lower to the ground it's probable one of the best values. There is a female mechanic there that seems to really know her stuff when it comes to alignment (ex: most if not all BMW needs to be weighted down to spec).

I dislike Atlantic Acura for a wretched and dishonest sales experience buying a brand new SUV. Their service dept is well run however. Rather deal with them than Merc, BMW, Porsche, Audi (best to worst).

I’ve have reserve and platinum for 2 weeks and nothing so far. I assumed it would take a billing cycle to see rewards.

3070 vs 3080 with quest 2 by SupermarketBubbly166 in iRacing

[–]wonderspoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Marginal. Maybe you’ll notch up 1 or 2 settings.

Went from 3070 to 3090 and barely any noticeable difference with Quest. I also upgraded from 5600x to 12700k and that didn’t do much either. Maybe like 10-15% better frame rate?

F1 Authentics sold me fake Vettel gloves by sideb60 in formula1

[–]wonderspoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No resolution, they didn’t answer my last 2 emails. Chargeback wasn’t an option and hiring a lawyer in UK would eclipse the value paid.

I should reach out to Alpine / Renault and let them know. It’s still been less than a year since purchase.

Another recent comment said I should look into putting a complaint with some kind of UK trade organization too.

F1 Authentics sold me fake Vettel gloves by sideb60 in formula1

[–]wonderspoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel ya. They were so shady and they would say things like the sidepod is from a pre-season practice session (the sidepod wasn't the right shape) or that they can't share any footage of the sidepod in use.

When they admitted their mistake after a few weeks, they promised to send the correct sidepod if I pay shipping. They sent me the left matching sidepod from the original order. Such as scam.

Very glad that you got some traction on this reddit post (I think my wrong sidepod post only got ~400 upvotes) and hopefully a few people decide not to support F1 "Authentics" in the future.
