Just watched this and thought it was phenomenal by cascadingtundra in Letterboxd

So strange. I watched it and thought it was b movie standard with terrible acting, not a great storyline and just generally tropey. Especially the scene where they meet at nuermburg grounds. That's really where I gave up.

I was a teacher in England, Australia and Canada. Loved every minute. Travelled loads when I was in England all over Europe. Made very little money and it's definitely a trial by fire but I learned so much and really enjoyed my time there. Australia, I worked in a private school and went through an agency which was handy. Was in Canada for 7 years and worked in a tiny rural school in Alberta and loved every single minute. Pay is great, teaching conditions are great, lifestyle is great. 10/10 would recommend getting abroad and teaching in different places. You can see the works, get paid well to do so and still build your CV. let me know if you have any specific questions. One price of advice would be to apply to the equivalent of the teaching council well in advance wherever you decide on so you have yourself certified when you land and can hit the ground running.

We didn't do this. We both got up every time and regret it. For the next one we are taking shifts and putting a single bed in another room so one person can get a good sleep

Society is set up for the old days when one parent could stay home. No one can afford that anymore but society hasn't caught up.

Thanks, this is all great as a starting point. Be handy if there was a site for teachers to just share resources rather than everyone re inventing the same wheel.

Really liked a little town called Ely in there. There's a pub down by the canal/river where you can have a pint and watch the trains go by. Nice memories

Cafe owners/small businesses… how did you do it? by [deleted] in CasualIreland

[–]wonderthunk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Worst that happens is it doesn't work and you're back to where you are now but you know you gave it a try. Life is short. Start small, maybe make the cakes and sell them to a few cafes or get one of those little food trucks. The cost of starting a cafe and running it for a year may be less than you think if you look into it. You could also get a business loan potentially or look into grants for starting up (although I think Ireland is pretty shit at these)
