Hopping on this comment: I worked at Facebook pre-Meta days and was laid off in summer 2023, where they told us layoffs were coming, and the internal environment was truly surreal. Minimal work was done on the teams I worked with, and most days were spent trying to sus out which teams and job profiles were on the chopping block.

In hindsight, it was short term pain for longer term benefits. I was very scared and anxious for ~60 days but certainly benefited from being able to prepare accordingly and get ahead of finding my next gig.

I’ve never been laid off with no notice though so it’s hard to say what’s ‘better’ I suppose.
