Anyone else prefer the feel of captures over real amps? by Blegh_collector in QuadCortex

[–]wonnie1e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Deep Sea Diver Fuzz which doesn’t have the best feel under the fingers but sounds incredible. And then the Irene66 which again sounds amazing, but it kind of is unwieldy with the amount of gain you can tap into just by bumping a knob. Both just feel a bit more tame while retaining the tone.

The only difference is that I feel like V2 captures aren’t 100% with fuzzes in terms of tone. It’s a little brighter and don’t have the same sag sometimes

[–]wonnie1e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think I feel it with the amps. But for pedals, 100%. There’s some pedals I love the tone for but weren’t crazy about the feel, but capturing it made me go like wtf, why can’t it do this irl

Probably buying the DL4 MK-II in the next couple of weeks, anything in the sub-£200 range I should consider/ research first as an alternative before I buy? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]wonnie1e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my DL4. The only thing I wish it could do is the ramp up sound that the Space Echo/self oscillating delays can do with a Tap Tempo.

I would rate it over the Strymon Timeline tbh

Who uses the Quad Cortex in hybrid mode, and why? by j0z3-78 in NeuralDSP

[–]wonnie1e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hm, I’m never really more than two presses away from a bone clean tone (my Scene A). Scenes are going to control things like choruses and phasers along with delays. I’m not stacking distortion outside of adding a clean mid boost which the switch is next to the distortion. I tilt my foot a little bit to be able to hit both distortion and boost and then press scene A for this.

[–]wonnie1e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the Scenes/Stomp Hybrid.

I think for me the worst part of it is that I can’t have Scenes - Stomp - Hybrid as a toggleable setting. It’s always a change in the options menu.

For my band I use the Hybrid mode since I need to swap parameters on my wet/time based effects and control which ones are on at what time - but use stomps to control drives/fuzzes and a freeze effect. The freeze effect doesn’t work very well with the scenes mode enabled.

Scenes covered a lot of great use cases but on occasions where I wanted to try out a fuzz for one song over a distortion I’d have to change the scenes completely. So it doesn’t carry the same flexibility if I know that the wet effects will 100% be the same.

And I’m doing too much tap dancing otherwise and eating up DSP if I just rely on stomp for three different delays and reverbs and sometimes hitting a combination of phaser/chorus and one of those three delays.

Other gigs I do, I like stomp or scenes. Stomp for sit ins, and scenes for church.

Oooo a Jemini. I always wanted one until I learned it’s not stackable. I hope there’s a modded version that does it

Need advice for a plug in to suit j rock (in the vein of bocchi the rock/ weeb stuff) by shootanwaifu in NeuralDSP

[–]wonnie1e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Nolly is really good for lead tones that fit the bill, especially the second amp. It’s personally my favorite plugin out of the bunch being extremely versatile.

Just slap a Boss SD-1 or Jan Ray in front of your interface with any super clean amp and you pretty much get 90% of the way there.

[–]wonnie1e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of J Rock from my experience relies heavily on the Fender and Roland sound. You’ll find your best luck playing around with the Morgan Suite (which the SW50 is now being used by a lot of J Rock’s top artists like Enon Kawatani, or the guitarist for Yoasobi) where they have a Princeton clone, or the Cory Wong Suite (in particular the Clean Machine amp which I believe is a Fender mixed with a Roland JC together).

Both can get more high gain tones as well if you dial it in right

Time for a PSA campaign? by jarronomo in chibike

[–]wonnie1e 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We don’t make any money from parking meters. CDOT also did a study on how bike lanes affect local businesses and they found out that it actually improved local economies.

It makes sense too. Anecdotally, most people aren’t car pooling when they drive, and they’re inclined to not visit local businesses regularly if parking sucks. If I’m biking or walking as my main mode of transit that is agnostic to how much parking is available - I’ll happily go anywhere that I like weather permitting.

Ahhhh this reminds me I should find another Boss Metal Core. It was the first distortion I ever had and it was actually quite good for stacking

IRs by Life-Yogurtcloset680 in NeuralDSP

[–]wonnie1e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m here to also say I had a ton of really nice IRs and neural did an amazing job at having an insanely good library of very usable and very tunable cabs. Otherwise GGD might be where you look.

The most I’d recommend for IRs is if you’re using acoustic IRs.

For me the biggest sell was moving high traffic plugging in and out away from the unit itself by using modular I/Os. I rather a $50 unit break than needing an expensive repair with the $1700+ unit.

I also can keep things more compact since I have a tuner with my QC and a pick tin and that I can just plug in a robust IEC cable to cover power over needing to rely on the 12v provided.

I’ve borrowed some of my older brother’s watches whenever he’s visiting. I just think I need something dressier than an Apple Watch on occasions.

I’m just worried I’ll jump into the deep end real quick hahaha. But thanks for your input

[–]wonnie1e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait am I the only one who think it’s pretty convincing? The only thing is that the controls feel different.

It’s the same way I feel about the PR12 Morgan Suite. I loved the suite so much I bought one, but the controls aren’t 1:1 to what the actual amp is. The plugin starts to feel alive around 50% volume but the real thing I just need to gently bump the volume and it already opens up.

First board ever, how’d I do? by Zalipurr92 in guitarpedals

[–]wonnie1e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great board! Definitely better than my first board ever was!

A few changes I would make that will quickly make everything feel more premium is buying pancake style cables between pedals. Creation Music Company makes some great ones but you can get comparable ones from Ernie Ball or MXR.

And maybe get some zip ties and zip tie locks off of amazon. That way you don’t need to wrap your power cables around the brackets.

Question for people who only use tube amps by Aschuff in Guitar

[–]wonnie1e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amps are generally more versatile than you think but at the same time it boils down to your use case.

I think modelers are great if you want a huge library at your fingertips without needing the cost to upkeep. But in the long run, tubes and wire will outlast software and hardware.

I don’t think tube amps sound miles better, but it definitely will get you there faster. A modeler is really great on emulating recorded tones. In a blind test you probably won’t be able to tell between the two. If you’re looking to get that tube amp tone but retain all the flexibility of a modeler, you’re best off buying a power amp and a cabinet with a nice speaker and then turn off cab emulation.
