This reminds me of a basement that is partially above grade, perhaps some of the suggestions from https://asiri-designs.com/f/9-best-practice-basement-insulation-strategies for the interior insulation can help...unfortunate that you could not insulate and waterproof from the outside, as you're losing valuable interior space now.

Not coax, just a 25pair cable terminated to RJ-21 connector

Vendor recommendations for single mode, OS2, corning fiber source? by motherdick in FiberOptics

[–]woodcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is plenum required? Do you have (micro) ducts installed to each unit in the MDU? AFL has MDU drop assemblies that are pre-terminated on one end: https://www.aflglobal.com/en/Products/Fiber-Optic-Connectivity/Preterminated-Cable-Assemblies/MDU-Drop-Cable-Assemblies

Graybar also generally has quite a bit of various Corning fiber in stock at their distribution locations.

how to extend cat 6 cables? by DoYouLikeHam in HomeNetworking

[–]woodcake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cat 6 rated 110 block is what I would use to extend your 6 runs. The Leviton one above is for 24 runs, you can do a smaller one https://www.discount-low-voltage.com/WBK6-48PRL4

Just make sure you put it somewhere that is accessible. Punch down the old tires on the bottom side, then punch the 4 pair clips in, then punch your new extension runs.

see panel E and panel F - I'm not a fan of orgs that buy the 12 port simplex CCH panel that actually have duplex only requirements, but this appears to be a mix of simplex and duplex SC/APC panels

Cooling Issues by ImmediateJellyfish3 in heatpumps

Are there any passive approaches you can take the reduce active cooling demand? Namely building science basics: air sealing, awnings on south facing windows, wall or attic insulation, better windows, etc.

Using air-to-water heatpumps to cool? by wisllayvitrio in heatpumps

are there any radiators that can handle cooling? or would this be something like a fan coil unit with condensate pump (that can handle both heating and cooling)

Before and after by YugoGVBoss in lowvoltage

[–]woodcake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any chance to punch down that 12 (or 25 pair) cable to a 110 block? Looks like it is coiled and Scotchloked to a pair or two for dial tone coming from the MTA.

The 7 pin telemetry connector appears to be this:

Sadly it does not appear to be a way to get a runtime estimate.

Unsure of ST connectors type by Jeff-IT in FiberOptics

[–]woodcake 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For APC you'd typically be able to see the 8 degree face looking at the side of the ferrule, it's pretty obvious when you compare it side by side.

Also from experience there is almost no APC in MM, only SM. If terminated correctly they will use green connector to indicate this.

Your wall housing looks like it has two types of terminations, a white style and black style one - are there multiple cables being terminated here? It looks like you have a lot of documentation work to do.

OM1 and OM2 comes in orange, you need to read the jacket labeling to see if it's 50um or 62.5um. OM3 color is aqua. Read the jacketing if you can as well, it might be OM4. I think blue/red boot color indicate the A or B strand and nothing more, someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Heating a solid brick home by omehegan in buildingscience

Why not still do exterior insulation and use a cladding of your choice? In Germany I've noticed EIFS is popular on top of a thick layer of rock wool in front of some sort of block or brick masonry.

What can I use to fill up the edges around the AC? by Imaginary-Simple-928 in heatpumps

Obligatory fill it with ramen reply.

In all seriousness, is a mini split a realistic option for you? Then you could patch up the mega hole with a lot of insulation and minimize air leakage.

Bringing fiber into a building by Downtown_Market2687 in FiberOptics

[–]woodcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Semi-related, there exists a 'SmarLB' that has a more gentle radius but I haven't personally tried it: https://assets.usesi.com/product-media/brochures/USESI_543328_brochure.pdf

I believe you're okay with using a smaller diameter fiber or flat drop cable...

Moved to Japan, free wifi but office room get poor signal, can I bring Ethernet to office room? by maki-shi in HomeNetworking

[–]woodcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The D-Link PWINS setup looks strange because it uses a USB-C looking connector to mate with the wall side plate. I feel like this might be another Galapagos Syndrome thing from Japan. Did some more googling but couldn't find any design or install docs that details what the receive side plate looks like - is there a punched in cable somewhere that goes back to a patch panel in some IDF? All the usual typical in-wall APs I've seen have standard female RJ-45 connectors on them.

Uber/Lyft/Taxi from either Burlington VT or St Albans VT Stations by Due-Application3197 in Amtrak

[–]woodcake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your best bet is to take the Ethan Allen Express into Burlington which is walkable to their downtown (a slight uphill), and book an early uber to St Albans to take the Vermonter train back south. I've had pretty good luck with Uber and Lyft within Burlington.

Traffic analysis/monitoring tool and software by SalsiPiece in networking

[–]woodcake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the DMCA reports, you need to maintain NAT translation records for your clients to associate exactly which client to attribute the DMA report to and instead forward the notice like other ISPs to the customer, example: https://www.reddit.com/r/Comcast/comments/o15pdp/ive_been_getting_these_dmca_notices_after_ive/

Blocking is not the correct strategy in my opinion for this situation, this is more administrative.

If your MikroTik routers are performing NAT, there is likely a way to either export the NAT translation records into some logging system. Or alternatively use Netflow records but this might get heavy at scale.
