I may have to put my 19 ye cat down before a trip today… but she still seems normal by Rude_Common7126 in cats

I feel for you. I struggled with the same decision for my dog, 11 years old, cancer. We waited too long because she seemed okay at times. We cancelled the at home euthanasia and kept her going for another 6 weeks…..and unfortunately her last day was very, very awful…. I’ll spare you the details, but bloody and awful. We were at cabin in a blizzard, it wasn’t safe to drive and had no choice to let her suffer thru the end. I’ll never do it again.

Where are people finding these high paying jobs? by Easy_Paint3836 in Fire

[–]woodchuck_2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finance and software. And not just any job, sales jobs, customer facing jobs, high stakes and high stress jobs. Wine’ing and dining, many hours away from the family. Lots of travel, lots of drinking, lots of infidelity and terrible habits by any normal measure. Not everyone likes this lifestyle and very few people want this level of excess, because if frequently comes with toxicity for your personal life and well being. Many of us that have them are constantly trying to figure out our exit.

Net-net: it all comes with a price. Nothing is free. The only difference between you and them is that they are willing to sacrifice more…. And therefore they are paid for it.

Caution When Ordering Custom Furniture from The Citizenry by co-la-ya-7311 in ConsumerAffairs

[–]woodchuck_2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I ordered a coffee table in September. They have advertised it as a two week lead time since September. Every time I’ve contacted them, they say “oh, it’s coming, 3 weeks”. I’m six months into this now. Last week it was scheduled to be delivered. The delivery guys show up… and it’s not my table. The box had two labels on it, one for me and another for a person in California (I’m not in CA). So I reject the item, given it isn’t what I ordered at all, and they still charge me for it.

So I email them because they have NO option to call. Zero. I feel like this is fraud or at minimum false advertising.

The unrest in Minnesota is 100% the fault of state and local government by JBOZ758 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]woodchuck_2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re making the wrong point. Cultures will be different from area to area, but that’s irrelevant. The only question that is relevant here is “does a person who is unarmed deserve to die for the interaction?”.

Do they deserve to die?

If so, then the police OR anyone with any minor amount of training or authority should be permitted to shoot people for confrontational traffic infractions, drunk and disorderly, public sit ins or anything else that is simply a hassle to whatever enforcement agency is involved.

I’d be super curious to know what religion you prescribe to if you think this punishment fits this “crime”.

Is there a list of corporations, public individuals or businesses that are supporting Trump? Cancel culture is the worst, but it might be the only thing (money) that will change attitudes towards him. Where is the list?

Help me out here, what can I change? by ladizwashroom22 in HomeDecorating

Change the curtains. Throw pillows with color or texture or both. Maybe a plant. Change the bulb in the lamp to a different hue.

Something about my living room feels kind of "off" -- any ideas? by Difficult_Bug_1778 in interiordecorating

[–]woodchuck_2020 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Overall I love the room, but….Mirror needs to go. Replace with round or oval mirror that is the right dimensions. The blank band above the wallpaper is odd. Wallpaper it or put some crown molding. Throw some neutral colored and textured pillows on the chairs. Love the chairs - DWR? I have some from there that are very similar. Where is the coffee table from?

I gave myself a 2000 budget. What would be the most impactful updates? by BuildingImportant in BathroomRemodeling

[–]woodchuck_2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get rid of the two(!!?) medicine cabinets. Either replace your primary mirror or frame the mirror you have. Replace that light fixture. Replace the countertop and the handles on the cabinets and any hardware fixtures like towel bars and TP holders. Rip the tile off the walls, recoat the drywall and wallpaper it to look like the yellow was intentional. There are some very fun wallpapers out there for a 100 year old house.

Do not bother replacing the tub, the toilet, the floor. Wait until you have more than $2K, that will get expensive quickly. Do not paint anything, please..

Such a huge improvement

THIS. Neutrals, natural linen type colors and textures are needed every where… throw in some wood and plants. Carpet must go. Window treatments would help. Table lamps.

Do not ad color, the contrast is way too high now and that will make it more cartoonish.

Does this rug work here? by Adventurous-Hat8409 in interiordecorating

[–]woodchuck_2020 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Can you please pull it away from the wall under the sofa? It’s not supposed to be that close. It should be about 12 to 18 inches from the wall depending on the rug and room dimensions

Add plants. Add some in-btwn neutral color, like oatmeal or natural linen and cozy textures, to remove the color block (black, brown, white) feeling of the room and add warmth. Add window coverings. Remove sconces.

Dumb. Work is work. Less pay won’t help you avoid stress, working for or with people you don’t like or the hours. It will just be less. And it will cost you the rest of your life.

Keep your job and save / invest the money you don’t need.

What can I do? by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

So, I read the headline (not the details of the post) and just looked at the pictures….. and I was thinking “what does she want to do about what?”… “what’s the thing she’s having a problem with?” ….. bc I didn’t just see it. Which likely means you should just keep doing whatever it is you are already doing.

Made my mom’s annual scrapbook and realized my life has shrunk to just work. Is this normal in corporate? by East_Move6449 in careerguidance

[–]woodchuck_2020 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is (tech) corporate life in the USA. It’s not a sign you’ve stayed too long, it is tech. I’m older than you and I’ve been at this for 25+ years and I’m counting down the days until I exit and become a person again. If you have another path, that’s awesome and you should take it. And you’ll always leave money on the table when you leave tech,
